Collaboration And The Future Of Education written by Gordon Andrews and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-08 with Education categories.

Current educational reforms have given rise to various types of "educational Taylorism," which encourage the creation of efficiency models in pursuit of a unified way to teach. In history education curricula, this has been introduced through scripted textbook-based programs such as Teacher Curriculum Institute’s History Alive! and completely online curricula. They include the jargon of authentic methods, such as primary sources, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction, and access to technology; yet the craft of teaching is removed, and an experience that should be marked by discovery and reflection is replaced with comparatively empty processes. This volume provides systematic models and examples of ways that history teachers can compete with and effectively halt this transformation. The alternatives the authors present are based on collaborative models that address the art of teaching for pre-service and practicing secondary history teachers as well as collegiate history educators. Relying on original research, and a maturing body of secondary literature on historical thinking, this book illuminates how collaboration can create real historical learning.

Making Sense Of Somali History written by Abdullahi, Abdurahman and has been published by Adonis and Abbey Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-18 with History categories.

In the last three decades, Somalia has been associated with such horrible terms as 'state collapse', 'civil wars', 'foreign intervention', 'warlordism', 'famine', 'piracy' and 'terrorism'. This depiction was in contradiction to its earlier images as the cradle of the human race, the kernel of ancient civilizations, the land of Punt, a homogeneous nation-state and the first democratic state in Africa. So how did things fall apart in the country? This Volume 1 of a two-volume narrative, Dr. Abdullahi explores the history of the people of Somali peninsula since ancient times, the advent of Islam and colonialism, the rise and fall of Somali nationalism and the perspectives of the Somali state collapse. The book uses a unique thematic approach and analysis to make sense of Somali history by emphasizing the responsibility of Somali political elites in creating and perpetuating the disastrous conditions in their country.

Education And The Politics Of Memory In Russia And Eastern Europe written by Sergey Rumyantsev and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-21 with History categories.

This book examines both formal and extracurricular education, and the politics of memory and historical narratives in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Ukraine. The misalignment between memory politics and history politics forms a central theme of this book. Structured in three parts, it focuses on school education in the post-Soviet states over the 30 years between the collapse of the Soviet Union and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The chapters inquire as to how post-Soviet school education, politics of memory, and history politics became active participants in the production of state-approved ideology, patriotism, and a state-prescribed understanding of the national past. Armed conflicts in the territory of the former USSR not only saw numerous victims and refugees but also the emergence of new borders and unrecognized (de-facto) states, and the annexation of territories. They also contributed to the creation of new sites of memory, generated their own traditions of commemoration for the heroes and victims of these confrontations, and led to the reconstruction of historical narratives and the construction of new national myths. The research in this book foregrounds how the nationalization of the public space and the reconstruction of national historical narratives in the independent states reflect a desire to monopolize the power to interpret the past, with low tolerance of alternative accounts. In this light, the book covers issues such as the nation-state, Sovietization, national history creation, memory politics, religion, mass media, nationalism and patriotism, and analyzes the relationship of Azerbaijani and Armenian, Russian and Ukrainian societies with their histories and pasts. A novel study on the topic of memory and history writing, this is a timely contribution to the field of Post-Soviet history and Russian and Eastern European Studies.
