The impossibility of miracles is the concept which unites the devout and the skeptical. For the devout, it is the proof of divine intervention. For the skeptical, it is the proof that miracles simply do not occur. But the concept is false, based on a flawed understanding of probability. Also lacking in contemporary discussion of the resurrection is modern medical insight into the nature of death, the processes leading to shock and coma, and the mechanisms of resuscitation. Any rational analysis of the biology of the resurrection tends to be lumped in with the ridiculous Swoon Theory from the 19th century, and promptly dismissed. This book dissects the evidence on the crucifixion, on the conduct of Pilate and the Sanhedrin, and on the resurrection appearances. Using this evidence, we can define the precise sequence of events enabling a resurrection to occur. It depended on a series of steps, each with a low probability of success, resulting in a final outcome occurring only once in all of recorded history. But none of the steps is outrageously implausible. With modern insight, we can shed the flawed notion of impossibility, and appreciate the wonderful miracle which changed history and set humanity on the pathway towards the modern world.

The miracles recorded in the New Testament, and the greatest miracle of all, the Resurrection, form the subject of this volume; the contributors map out thought-provoking ways of approach to a problem which affords perhaps the greatest intellectual obstacle to the acceptance of the Gospel by the modern mind.

There are many who believe Moses parted the Red Sea and Jesus came back from the dead. Others are certain that exorcisms occur, ghosts haunt attics, and the blessed can cure the terminally ill. Though miracles are immensely improbable, people have embraced them for millennia, seeing in them proof of a supernatural world that resists scientific explanation. Helping us to think more critically about our belief in the improbable, The Miracle Myth casts a skeptical eye on attempts to justify belief in the supernatural, laying bare the fallacies that such attempts commit. Through arguments and accessible analysis, Larry Shapiro sharpens our critical faculties so we become less susceptible to tales of myths and miracles and learn how, ultimately, to evaluate claims regarding vastly improbable events on our own. Shapiro acknowledges that belief in miracles could be harmless, but cautions against allowing such beliefs to guide how we live our lives. His investigation reminds us of the importance of evidence and rational thinking as we explore the unknown.

'Miracles and the Concept of Impossibility' takes a fresh look at the miracle of the resurrection of Jesus. A miracle is inexplicable by the methods of science and thus deemed impossible. I examine the concept of impossibility with primary reference to David Hume’s notion that there is a boundary of probability beyond which the improbable becomes the impossible, calculated at 10150. Physicists have declared that the universe is inevitable and, at the same time, impossible. Its inevitability is obvious, but the mind-boggling improbability that a biocentric universe exists vastly exceeds the probability boundary. If a miracle is defined as an impossibility, the universe is a miracle. The origin of life is just as miraculously impossible because the probability of dead organic molecules evolving into the organic molecules of life is even less than it is for the existence of the universe. ... r> This book also looks at what the Resurrection means in terms of the atonement and the concepts of hell and universal salvation. This is followed by an examination of the evidence for the Resurrection and historical and archaeological reasons for trusting the New Testament. Secular explanations of the Resurrection are examined and pitted against the Christian account in terms of their explanatory scope and power. The last two chapters look at the “silent witness” to the resurrection, the Shroud of Turin bearing the image of a terribly tortured and crucified man. For 125 years, scientists have been unable to discover how the image was imprinted on the cloth; thus, I conclude that it is the “silent witness” to the Resurrection—the authentic Shroud of Jesus Christ.

Lazarus written by Valentin Tomberg and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-10 with categories.

This final masterwork of Valentin Tomberg (1900-1973) consists of three parts. Part I, "The Seven Miracles of John's Gospel," probes deep correlations between the 7 Healing Miracles, the 7 Days of Creation, and the 7 Sacraments. Part II, "The Miracle of the Raising of Lazarus," juxtaposes the mysteries of forgetting, sleep, and death, with those of remembering, awakening, and resurrection, as a prelude to the eternal words: "Lazarus, Come Forth!" Part III, "The Miracle of Lazarus in Divine-Human History," leads to the "blinding insight" that Christianity is nothing other than the ongoing resurrection of the totality of Divine-Human History, the Ecclesia universalis.
