The Misdirection of Education Policy: Raising Questions about School Reform proposes critically important questions about the wisdom of American public education policy and reform initiatives. Laying out the particulars of three policy strands—creation of STEM curricula/schools, expansion of charter schools/privatizing, and teacher accountability/testing tied to job security— The Misdirection of Education Policy exposes complications, contradictions, and deliberate deceptions in these supposed solutions to very real issues in education. Dafoe theorizes that obstacles facing American education are far more complicated than policy makers suggest or consider. The Misdirection of Education Policy poses the question of whether it is practical to offer an education that is not merely practical in its ends, opening doors far beyond career readiness and filling employers’ job slots. The approach suggested here is designed to offer an arterial that allows students and teachers to do more than simply prepare for STEM careers; it advocates for an education that helps people navigate life by becoming explorers who remain curious and analytical about their world.

"This is a valuable clarification, re-statement and defence of principlism as an approach to applied ethics. It is strongly recommended to many teachers of bioethics..." -- Journal of the American Medical Association "Childress' book deserves careful study by all concerned with the ethical aspect of contemporary biomedical challenges." -- Science Books & Films "An ideal supplement for a graduate seminar on bioethics or for upper-division undergraduates needing more information in this area." -- Choice In these revised and updated essays, renowned ethicist James F. Childress highlights the role of imagination in practical reasoning through various metaphors and analogies. His discussion of ethical problems contributes to a better understanding of the scope and strength of different moral principles, such as justice, beneficence, and respect for autonomy. At the same time, Childress demonstrates the major role of metaphorical, analogical, and symbolic reasoning in biomedical ethics, largely in conjunction with, rather than in opposition to, principled reasoning.

This book is a collection of personal stories about a boy who grew up in the countryside. My “I Can” story is the story of a boy born to a single mother who meets his father for the first time while he was a teenager. Despite growing up with challenges to make ends meet, he manages to climb the academic ladder to hold a University degree and patent a clothing brand. This is the life story of an achiever-oriented heart that provides lessons that are his life experiences and one may use them as motivational steering wheels in his or her life. It is about how repeatedly he has shown that he can do anything irrespective of the insurmountable odds. When he saw American people walking on the moon it was evidence that dreams really work when one or a group of people work on it. He began to associate his ambitions with American Dream – the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain his own version of success in a society where upward mobility is possible for everyone. It is achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking and hard work, rather than by chance.

Beyond Schizophrenia written by Marjorie L. Baldwin and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-25 with Psychology categories.

The experience of living and working with schizophrenia is often fraught with challenges and setbacks. This book is a comprehensive attempt to explain why, in spite of near-miraculous advances in medication and treatment, persons with mental illness fare worse than almost any other disadvantaged group in the labor market. As a researcher of economics and disability and the mother of a son with schizophrenia, the author speaks from both professional and personal experience. First, she looks at societal factors that affect employment outcomes for persons with schizophrenia (or other serious mental illness), including stigma and discrimination, investments in human capital, the quality of mental health services, and the support of family and friends. Then she examines workplace factors that affect employment outcomes, including employer mandates in the Americans with Disabilities Act, the decision to disclose a diagnosis of mental illness at work, the interaction between job demands and functional limitations, and job accommodations for persons with a serious mental illness. Giving weight to both perspectives, the final chapter outlines a set of policy recommendations designed to improve employment outcomes for this population.
