Within the world of martial arts, there exists a great chasm of incompleteness. A chasm wherein a life changing art has been reduced to a mere sport, a shadow of its original and far more complete self. This concept has been developed to fill that ever widening void by addressing two of the most important traditions of martial arts. But it doesn't stop there, as it also has a close look at contemporary issues that should be covered by modern martial arts. Missing Links of Martial Arts introduces a comprehensive concept that connects Japanese Karate with its Chinese roots and modern applications.

Luke Woam is out to become a missing person finder. With such awesome skills as being long-term unemployed; award-winning daytime television trivia knowledge; racking breadcake trays (and occasionally injecting jam into doughnuts when needed in an emergency) and generally being good at nothing useful, Luke sets out with his girlfriend in tow, to the metropolis that is London, to work on his first ever case—locating a runaway teenage girl. It’s a case that will take him way out of his comfort zone of his bed, settee, console, television and unhealthy snacks, which (like everything else in his life post-school), have mostly been paid for by the benefit system. Luke and his partner, Tina, are thrust into a dangerous world far unlike their own back in small-time Bolton. On the plus side, they do possess a cheap, tacky, lucky charm purchased from a gypsy-like night-time street peddler of an old lady; the charm is probably of no real help to be honest, but alas, it is all in the belief, innit? And, both are in their early 20s still, is that a plus or minus, who knows in this lark? So, do the UK’s newest, fledgling double act crack their maiden case, or does this missing maiden case crack them? One thing is for sure though, it definitely is a case of people, cultures and cities on a cataclysmic, nay, apocalyptic collision...well, they come into contact anyway!

The year is 1984. Things are looking up for 30 year old David Boyer, an aspiring world class athlete. He is on the cusp of achieving his lifelong dream of becoming one of the best tennis players in the world, when his life is turned upside down by a serious accident. With his body damaged and his spirit crushed, he is forced to accept menial work with a large energy corporation where his father already works. Bucky Boyer is a brilliant scientist who has invented a revolutionary electrical device, years ahead of its time, that threatens to bankrupt the very company that now employs them. Meanwhile, dozens of retired employees have been dying in tragic accidents. Joe Miller, David's friend, coworker, and frustrated amateur detective, senses the suspicious nature of it all. David is reluctantly dragged into the conspiracy. With the help of another old friend from childhood and his amazing pet, the mystery is finally unraveled. David confronts his ultimate fear and, in so doing, gains a powerful life lesson and a deeper appreciation for this new life that has replaced the one he lost. This novel has everything: danger, suspense, tragedy, fishing, intrigue, funny stories, sad stories, science, complicated characters, romance, courageous animals, timeless words of wisdom, and humor. Two thumbs up(the author's).

The Invention Of Martial Arts written by Paul Bowman and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Performing Arts categories.

"The Invention of Martial Arts examines the media history of what we now call 'martial arts' and argues that martial arts is a cultural construction that was born in film, TV and other media. It argues that 'martial arts' exploded into popular consciousness entirely thanks to the work of media. Of course, the book does not deny the existence of real, material histories and non-media dimensions in martial arts practices. But it thoroughly recasts the status of such histories, combining recent myth-busting findings in historical martial arts research with important insights into the discontinuous character of history, the widespread 'invention of tradition', the orientalism and imagined geographies that animate many ideas about history, and the frequent manipulation of history for reasons of status, cultural capital, private or public power, politics, and/or financial gain. In doing so, The Invention of Martial Arts argues for the primacy of media representation as key player in the emergence and spread of martial arts. This argument overturns the dominant belief that 'real practices' are primary, while representations are secondary. The book makes its case via historical analysis of the British media history of such Eastern and Western martial arts as Bartitsu, jujutsu, judo, karate, tai chi and MMA across a range of media, from newspapers, comics and books to cartoon, film and TV series, as well as television adverts and music videos, focusing on key but often overlooked texts such as adverts for 'Hai Karate', the 1970s disco hit 'Kung Fu Fighting', and many other mainstream and marginal media texts"--

Time moves on, cultures change with the twists of history and secret arts are lost. To understand the essence of karate, kobudo and te is to read and digest this work. To devour the mysteries of the secret principles it records is to dwell in a former time, only then will the reader know the true meanings of what the masters passed on. This book was a classic of the 20th century and, with the passing of time, is now considered to be an historic record for the modern era; both a time capsule and an integrated tool of knowledge transmission. Also featuring contributions from the latest breed of expert researchers, this Expanded Third Edition keeps the original version alive in its entirety, while bringing the Okinawan karate world up to date, as it expands into an ever-increasing international world. Be warned though, it also answers questions that have not been asked until now and topics that could not have been discussed, while expanding on newly debatable issues. This is what the masters were really saying

Considered by many to be the magazine of record for ancient mysteries, future science, and unexplained anomalies, Atlantis Rising® provides some of the most astounding reading to be found anywhere. This is a book for those who want more: those who go against the grain of "accepted" history, who dare to doubt the truth of the truth makers. For hundreds of years, human lore's legacy has been passed down without question. But there are missing connections, giant question marks, and links that cannot be ignored. What if Columbus didn't discover America? What if Egyptians visited the Grand Canyon? What if Jesus and Horus were one and the same? What if history was much more colorful than the accepted black and white? There are those who would shun such questions or choose to be colorblind in a potentially more colorful world. But for those in search of missing connections, we offer this collection of 33 essays by the most educated critical thinkers of our time. Missing Connections promotes awareness of the many hues that fill the world, some of which may be hard to see unless they are properly pointed out. Editor J. Douglas Kenyon has culled from the pages of Atlantis Rising® magazine this compilation of concise and well-illustrated articles by world-class researchers and theoreticians like Frank Joseph, Steven Sora, Philip Coppens, Robert M. Schoch, William Stoecker, John Kettler, and many others, who offer thought-provoking insights into a world that is much more colorful than we ever imagined.

Known for its knock-out strikes, fluid footwork & bladed weaponry, Okinawan te is a survivor that has endured due to its ability to adapt to social changes. In 1609, in order to suppress Okinawa's developing military might & vast trading links, the Japanese Satsuma clan launched a massive invasion & subjugated the island kingdom. Until then, te had been a bushido battlefield system, with organised castle & naval warfare. However, under Satsuma's rule, the Okinawan bushi, could no longer bear arms in public or have standing armies, so te was transformed into a personal fighting system & recreational activity. Within karate, Okinawan dance & music, the hidden essence of te still provides the framework. It fills Okinawan cultural life & keeps its subtle social machinery revolving. In this detailed work the foundation stones of Okinawan te are laid out through the explanations of historic technical photographs left by the masters for future generations; their forethought has enabled us to walk in their footsteps.
