Excerpt from The Modern Crisis in Religion When invited by the publishers to furnish a volume for the International Pulpit it was with me a question whether to select twenty or thirty sermons embracing as many diverse topics, or to choose a number closely related to each other and dealing with one great theme of present interest. For reasons that need not be stated here I decided on the latter course. Much has been written of late on the signs of religious decadence. On both sides of the Atlantic fears have been expressed that Christianity has lost for good and all its hold on mankind; and satisfaction, in some quarters, has not been disguised that its final collapse is evidently so near at hand. What the grounds are for these dreary apprehensions and for this singular congratulation are not altogether clear to the mass of the people. All that they really know is that vague statements are current alleging a decline of faith, accompanied by depressing statistical representations and by accounts of failures and disasters. Their information is detached, fragmentary and disconnected, and consequently their inferences are not always safe or legitimate. That there is a crisis in religion, whether the result of premature and unwarranted alarm, or the effect of recent and reliable investigation, must in all candor be conceded. The Crisis Of The Modern World written by René Guénon and has been published by Sophia Perennis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001 with History categories.

It is no longer news that the Western world is in a crisis, a crisis that has spread far beyond its point of origin and become global in nature. In 1927, René Guénon responded to this crisis with the closest thing he ever wrote to a manifesto and 'call-to-action'. The Crisis of the Modern World was his most direct and complete application of traditional metaphysical principles-particularly that of the 'age of darkness' preceding the end of the present world-to social criticism, surpassed only by The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times, his magnum opus. In the present work Guénon ruthlessly exposes the 'Western deviation': its loss of tradition, its exaltation of action over knowledge, its rampant individualism and general social chaos. His response to these conditions was not 'activist', however, but purely intellectual, envisioning the coming together of Western intellectual leaders capable under favorable circumstances of returning the West to its traditional roots, most likely via the Catholic Church, or, under less favorable ones, of at least preserving the 'seeds' of Tradition for the time to come.

Religion is alive and well all over the world, especially in times of personal, political, and social crisis. Even in Europe, long regarded the most “secular” continent, religion has taken centre stage in how people respond to the crises associated with modernity, or how they interact with the nation-state. In this book, scholars working in and on Europe offer fresh perspectives on how religion provides answers to existential crisis, how crisis increases the salience of religious identities and cultural polarization, and how religion is contributing to changes in the modern world in Europe and beyond. Cases from Poland to Pakistan and from Ireland to Zimbabwe, among others, demonstrate the complexity and ambivalence of religion’s role in the contemporary world. Contributors are Mariecke van den Berg, David J. Bos, Marco Derks, Marco Derks, R. Ruard Ganzevoort, Miloš Jovanović, Vladimir Kmec, Marta Kołodziejska, Anne-Marie Korte, Anne-Sophie Lamine, Christophe Monnot, Alexandre Piettre, Ali Qadir, Srdjan Sremac, Joram Tarusaria, Martina Topić, and Tom Wagner.

The debates to disentangle the mystery of religion will most likely rage until eternity...This 314 page book critically re-examines theology and the disturbing trend to which religious practices and dogmatic faith have dangerously malformed in the new societal order of our modern civilization. This book is a comprehensive polygraph test for organized religions and their gods - a thorough lie detection analysis of sinister misapplication of faith and the cognitive errors of the fundamental theologies that bind humanity to religious beliefs. Attentive reader of this book would evidently discern how staggering and incredibly infinite the human stupidity truly is where it concerns religion and dogmatic faith. *Provocative *Revealing *Hot!

Faith In The Shadows written by Austin Fischer and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-11 with Religion categories.

"People don't abandon faith because they have doubts. People abandon faith because they think they're not allowed to have doubts." Too often, our honest questions about faith are met with cold confidence and easy answers. But false certitude doesn't result in strong faith—it results in disillusionment, or worse, in a dogmatic, overweening faith unable to see itself or its object clearly. Even as a pastor, Austin Fischer has experienced the shadows of doubt and disillusionment. In Faith in the Shadows, he leans into perennial questions about Christianity with raw and fearless integrity. He addresses contemporary science, the problem of evil, hell, God's silence, and other issues, offering not only fresh treatments of these questions but also a fresh paradigm for thinking about doubt itself. Doubt, Fischer contends, is no reason to leave the faith. Instead, it's an invitation to a more honest faith—a faith that's not in control, but that trusts more fully in its Lord.
