Aquest llibre presenta un recorregut per la història monumental de Sant Pere de Rodes, des dels precedents antics, fins a les darreres restauracions, amb l'objectiu de donar una visió el més complerta i raonada possible del conjunt. Els segles del romànic, en què el monestir és un punt de referència indiscutible, s'han tractat de manera sensiblement més extensa, perquè aquest període és el millor estudiat i el més significatiu de Sant Pere de Rodes. Això no obstant, no s'ha volgut renunciar a la resta de la seva dilatada història, la qual també inclou períodes més desconeguts, fets luctuosos i processos de restauració que, en definitiva, són imprescindibles per entendre el monument actual. S'han tractat l'arquitectura i l'escultura, però també les pintures murals recentment descobertes, la Bíblia de Rodes i els objectes que hi varen ser trobats a principis del segle XIX. A propòsit de tots aquests temes, s'hi han incorporat recerques recents, amb informacions i troballes noves sobre les seves fases constructives, sobre les obres i fragments dispersos que en procedeixen i sobre aquelles parts que van ser espoliades des de poc després de l'abandonament del monestir, a finals del segle XVIII, i que en part recullen diversos estudis publicats en les darreres dècades i els resultats dels esforços esmerçats en les excavacions arqueològiques.

Perhaps this is the case for the alquerque-3 and alquerque-9 games, but never for alquerque-12 game. Some authors claim that the alquerque-12 game is a Greek or Roman game, but the great expert of these games, Dr. Ulrich Schadler, discards it. This book is the first proof that the alquerque-12 game was not popular at all in France, but much more in Spain, where the new chess game and draughts game were invented.
