Annetta Able and her identical twin Stephanie Heller started life in picturesque Prague. Their carefree teen years were cut short by the Nazi invasion. Banned from school and all social activities, they worked in a Jewish orphanage before being transported to Theresienstadt. Their parents and young sister were transported to Löd? Ghetto where they were murdered by the Nazis. Sent to Auschwitz, the twins were chosen to be part of notorious Dr Josef Mengele's twin experimentation. Annetta's' harrowing story describes their time in the extermination camp. After liberation by the Allied Forces, Annetta followed her sister to the new state of Israel where Annetta lived on a Kibbutz for the next 15 years with her husband Jiri Able, also an Auschwitz survivor. Annetta and her family followed Stephanie a second time when they moved to Australia, describing it as the best country in the world. With optimism and 'rose-coloured glasses', Annetta was able to move on to know joy and friendship and surround herself with a large family spanning four generations. This is the twins' victory over the Nazi regime that sought to annihilate them.

The Mosaic of My Life is the author’s second novel. The original Russian language edition was published in 2019. The novel has been nominated for three national literary awards in Russia which will be adjudicated in the autumn of 2020. The Mosaic of My Life covers a broad swathe of Russian history from the still ‘normal’ living conditions at the turn of the 20th century through World War I and the 1917 Revolution, the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War, to the New Economic Policy and semi-return to a market economy followed by the Great Terror, World War II and the immediate post war years. The story is based on reminiscences of people who lived through this complex historical period and, in their own words, explain their various decisions to stay or emigrate. The narrative takes the reader through several social strata from workers to high bourgeoisie, from inside the director’s box at the Bolshoi Theater to inside solitary confinement cells of political prisoners awaiting interrogation and likely execution.

The world is an increasingly interconnected place; in work as in life, we need a broad range of experiences to widen our knowledge, perform our best and feel most fulfilled. But in education and business there is the growing feeling that we are being led down a rabbit hole of narrow expertise, forced to specialise or shuttled into niche positions that don't make use of our wider talents. In The Mosaic Principle, Nick Lovegrove encourages us to take the broad view, showing how we can develop the mosaic of skills we need to make the most of ourselves and our careers, to the benefit of all. Drawing on more than three decades of personal experience across sectors, and examining the inspiring stories of extraordinary people, historical and contemporary, Lovegrove sets out the six dimensions of the successful generalist, skills that provide the ways and means for taking unorthodox steps to encourage us to live broader, better lives.

."Feelings remained locked, in little cages, without keys. Faces hid behind masks, concealing what we couldn't say, must not feel, did not see. Silence instructed us, to act or not to act. We were many but never more than he. It was strange yet normal. We were a family without voice until I spoke..." From modern poet and writer Cassandra Smith comes a powerful and eloquent book of poetry. Remnants of the Mosaic of My Life is a chronicle that connects readers with one who experienced her youth on the Inner City streets of New York, coped with an abusive family relationship, and is now emerging from her struggles to come to terms with her painful past. Smith's poems have an immediacy to them that enables readers to be in those moments of captured time with her, as she gives voice not only to the depths of anguish and the bitingly humorous, but to a vision of hope.
