Dozens of influential leaders have heard the pleas of mothers and children in developing countries. Raising their voices to inspire a movement to increase healthy pregnancies and lower death rates, Melinda Gates, Kay Warren, Bill Frist, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Michael W. Smith and more speak out about why people of faith must get involved in The Mother and Child Project: Raising Our Voices for Health and Hope. Almost 287,000 women die each year because of pregnancy and birth complications. Many orphans are left behind in the wake of this tragedy, and without a mother, many of those children die as well. If only enough people knew. We have the resources to prevent this crisis, but we must take action. Fortunately, Hope Through Healing Hands, a nonprofit organization promoting awareness for healthy mothers and children worldwide, is already spreading the word. Not only can we save lives, reduce abortions, and decrease death rates, but also we can help build healthier, thriving families and bring stability and sustainability to families, communities and nations. The question is, will you join them?

A discussion guide specifically written as a companion piece to The Mother and Child Project that will prompt helpful conversations for book clubs, small groups, and others interested in the topic of women and child health throughout the world and how the church community should get involved. The discussion guide is divided into four sessions-- one to complement each section of the book, The Mother and Child Project. Each session is divided into two parts: “At Home”—several suggested essays to read from the book prior to the gathering to discuss—and “In Your Small Group”—several discussion questions, often supplemented by a pertinent quote from the book, plus a follow-up activity to become personally involved. Dozens of influential leaders have heard the pleas of mothers and children in developing countries. Messages From Home written by Phyllis Levenstein and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988 with Academic achievement categories.

Levenstein, a clinical psychologist, reports on an early childhood education experiment she directed from 1967 to 1982 with welfare mothers and their children on Long Island. It was later replicated in 16 states and three countries. The program involved parent-child dialogue and play with high quality toys and books; it significantly aided the children in their intellectual growth and later school performance and increased the mothers' self-esteem. This book about an inexpensive program that helps close the achievement gap has an important message for educators, social workers, and psychologists.Shirley L. Examines the Protestant origins of motherhood and the child consumer Throughout history, the responsibility for children’s moral well-being has fallen into the laps of mothers. In The Moral Project of Childhood, the noted childhood studies scholar Daniel Thomas Cook illustrates how mothers in the nineteenth-century United States meticulously managed their children’s needs and wants, pleasures and pains, through the material world so as to produce the “child” as a moral project. Drawing on a century of religiously-oriented child care advice in women’s periodicals, he examines how children ultimately came to be understood by mothers—and later, by commercial actors—as consumers. From concerns about taste, to forms of discipline and punishment, to play and toys, Cook delves into the social politics of motherhood, historical anxieties about childhood, and early children’s consumer culture. An engaging read, The Moral Project of Childhood provides a rich cultural history of childhood.

Mothers Infants And Young Children Of September 11 2001 written by Beatrice Beebe and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-13 with Psychology categories.

The group of papers presented in this volume represents ten years of involvement of a group of eight core therapists, working originally with approximately forty families who suffered the loss of husbands and fathers on September 11, 2001. The project focuses on the families of women who were pregnant and widowed in the disaster, or of women who were widowed with an infant born in the previous year. This book maps the support and services provided without cost to the families by the primary prevention project – the 'September 11, 2001 Mothers, Infants and Young Children Project' – organised by a highly trained group of therapists specialising in adult, child, mother-infant and family treatment, as well as in nonverbal communication. The demands of the crisis led these therapists to expand on their psychoanalytic training, fostering new approaches to meeting the needs of these families. They sought out these families, offering support groups for mothers and their infants and young children in the mothers’ own neighbourhoods. They also brought the families to mother-child videotaped play sessions at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University, followed by video feedback and consultation sessions. In 2011, marking the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy, the Project continues to provide services without cost for these mothers who lost their husbands, for their infants who are now approximately ten years old, and for the siblings of these children. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Infant, Child, and Adolescent Psychotherapy.
