“Be prepared to stay up late with this one.”—NPR.org “[A] must-have story.”—School Library Journal (starred review) “Evocative and refreshingly unique.”—Tor A young woman with a dangerous power she barely understands. A smuggler with secrets of his own. A country torn between a merciless colonial army, a terrifying tyrant, and a feared rebel leader. The first book in acclaimed author Heidi Heilig’s Shadow Players trilogy blends traditional storytelling with ephemera for a lush, page-turning tale of escape and rebellion. For a Muse of Fire will captivate fans of Sabaa Tahir, Leigh Bardugo, and Renée Ahdieh. Jetta’s family is famed as the most talented troupe of shadow players in the land. With Jetta behind the scrim, their puppets seem to move without string or stick—a trade secret, they say. In truth, Jetta can see the souls of the recently departed and bind them to the puppets with her blood. But ever since the colonizing army conquered their country, the old ways are forbidden. Jetta must never show, never tell. Her skill and fame are her family’s way to earn a spot aboard the royal ship to Aquitan, where shadow plays are the latest rage, and where rumor has it the Mad King has a spring that cures his ills. Because seeing spirits is not the only thing that plagues Jetta. But as rebellion seethes and as Jetta meets a young smuggler, she will face truths and decisions that she never imagined—and safety will never seem so far away. Heidi Heilig creates a vivid, rich world inspired by Southeast Asian cultures and French colonialism. Told from Jetta’s first-person point-of-view, as well as chapters written as play scripts and ephemera such as telegrams and letters, For a Muse of Fire is an engrossing journey that weaves magic, simmering romance, and the deep bonds of family with the high stakes of epic adventure.

A Muse Of Fire written by Arnold D. Harvey and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

This is the first book to relate to the literature and art of the First World War to the literature and art produced by the Second World War and by earlier wars. A Muse of Fire is also the first serious attempt to examine the whole range of war poetry and war fiction in English in its relation to the work of German, French, Italian and - to a lesser extent - Russian, Danish, and Hungarian authors. Before 1914 few authors wrote about or experienced war. War, especially its reality, was not the proper subject of literature; while writers seldom served in the armed forces and were almost never in battle. More than half this book deals with the First World War. In successive chapters A.D. Harvey discusses what sort of people, in what sort of physical and psychological conditions, wrote about the war; or painted it; how they handled the challenge of describing their experiences with complete honesty; what literary and artistic techniques they employed; how other forms of creative talent were fostered by the war; and how far memoirs of the war prepared the way for the next one. The account given of the Second World War in the final section, like the chapters on pre-1914 war literature, provides far more than simply an introduction and conclusion to the central part of the book. It is an important contribution to an understanding of how literature and art relate to the psychological and social structures of the communities within which they are produced. At the Terran base on the conquered planet of the Mnemosyneans, Tyr Yllen is unique. The ultramodern techniques Earth teachers used are of no use with someone like Tyr. As an "Uneducated" he is considered little better than the village idiot. But when Educator Horace Mann arrives all the way from Earth, everything changes. Never in his wildest dreams could Tyr have imagined that Mann's teaching would lead him to battle for the survival of a psychic race of beings and the people who had conquered them...

The Muse. A non sense need of illusions. We are looking for inspiration all around ... till we find out that the inspiration is just not coming. We look all around. We are looking for something or someone that can give us a great vibe ... everyday. And one day ... we believe we found that we are looking for. She ... is the Muse. All great people from history, great artists, politicians, leaders, writers, poets, businessmen ... all of them, at one point ... they had an amazing muse that inspired them at a great dream. The muse gave them the confidence of believing in themselves and they always thought that the inspiration came from that person. But inspiration is actually coming from the Universe, and represent the connection between us and Divinity. The muse is not ... the Divinity ... but maybe being in such a story, we understand how we can connect to the Infinite. But can we, the ordinary people, learn to connect to then Universe, just as a monk does it ... without any love story?! Can we find this power in ourselves ... to find that greatness without the help of a loved muse?! What is her sense?! Is she the one that reveals the beauty and the huge powers locked in our spirits?! Can the secret of greatness comes just by having a love story ... or we should start studying how a monk is using his powers to understand the laws of the Universe, just by connecting to himself ... and then to the Infinite?! A muse looks like a non sense illusion. But ... all great people used the trick to connect to the Universe this way. Maybe ... the need of a muse is just a preliminary stage before you understand that in fact everything is in yourself. The muse is only the one that is whispering you the great secret about yourself ... that you are an amazing human being and that you can be ... whoever you dream to be. The muse is indeed an illusion ... a beautiful one ... but one day you will just understand that everything you need is already in yourself. The real non sense that you should analyze ... and focus a lot on it ... is why we don’t believe in ourselves?! ... and why we need this adorable person to whisper beautiful words to us ... when we can think as a monk?! Just think about it!
