Ollie D. Octopus- the D is short for Delicious- & his inseparable imaginary friend Pookaberry the Alien Baby continue their frantic antics in Ollie & Pookaberry in the Mushroom Forest, the second in this series of collectible books by World Renowned NYC-based POP Artist Marco. Ollie whose attention span is shorter than a fortune cookie maxim is highly intelligent even for an Octopus. Ollie's imagination is so active his third eye is has been permanently open ever since he can remember which was somewhere around the beginning of this sentence. With Pookaberry by his side Ollie erases the confining lines that futilely attempt to separate "Reality" from "Fantasy" this greatly pleases Sol Invictus whose rays rain down and super-saturate the sky sea above and the giggling gaggle of laughing plants in Pookaberry's Garden Cavern below. Rainbows and Butterflies, Mushrooms, and wiggle worms whirl around nilly willy in the soil, along the shore, and over the horizon. Ollie & Pookaberry may, on any given day, grab a comet by the tail to sail at superluminal speed behind their newfound fiery steed through parallel dimensions with the best intentions accompanied by a heady bevy of dizzyingly brilliant quizzical creatures of their own invention. On a bench in the park snoozing under the funny papers chortling in his sleep, Ollie awakes to a 9.9 magnitude quake that shakes a thought loose from one of the crannies of his raspberry ripple mind. It’s time to wake up in a giddy world of dreams, soar through the sea and swim in the galaxy patiently placing stars in pre-selected locations on the rapidly expanding fabric of 4th dimensional space time. After some heated interstellar negotiation, Ollie & Pookaberry agree with the terms and conditions of their very own constellation, sign and celebrate their cosmological sparkling incarnation in a raucous roadside cosmic lodging not unlike a otherworldly Days Inn. “Do Not Disturb” reads the sign that dangles from the knob, if “Housekeeping” was a tadpole it would be an very old frog by the time it made it in and onto Ollie and Pookaberry’s lily pad. “Slovenliness lies next to Godliness” wrote the bard on a wall in red crayon scrawl; walking on the deep shag down the noisy hall we come to a door, on which a plaque reads: “Evermore” No need to knock just come in to be Ollie & and his imaginary friend Pookaberry www.marcoart.com

Many mushrooms - or the 'fruits of fungi' - are extremely valuable, wild-gathered products which are utilised for both their medicinal properties and as food. In many of the world's tropical and temperate forests, they are the primary source of income for the people who live there. These forests range from temperate woodlands and small forests to high altitude forests in the Himalaya and tropical miombo woodlands in south-central Africa. In south-west China, over 200 species of wild fungi in 64 genera are commercially traded while in Europe and North America, woodlands and small forests are the source of many highly-prized mushrooms and an essential resource for many small enterprises and collectors. Yet the increased demand for timber has resulted in the rapid expansion of forestry, which in turn has destroyed the natural habitat of many fungi, unbalancing both forest economics and ecology. Despite the economic, social and cultural values of fungi, there is a general lack of understanding of their importance to local livelihoods and forest ecology. This book aims to fill this gap and extends the People and Plants Conservation Series beyond the plant kingdom into the related world of fungi and mushrooms. It demonstrates the crucial roles that fungi play in maintaining forest ecosystems and the livelihoods of rural people throughout the world while providing good practice guidelines for the sustainable management of this resource and an assessment of economic value. It brings together the perspectives of biologists, anthropologists and forest and woodland managers to provide a unique inter-disciplinary and international overview of the key issues.

It’s just an ordinary day—or so eleven-year-old Natalia thinks. Then her friend John shows her something strange: the pond in John’s Uncle Marvin’s backyard, once beautiful and clear, is now covered in sickly, green scum. Even weirder is the inexplicable spaceship Natalia and John discover in Marvin’s shed. Before they know it, Natalia and John have taken an accidental trip to Mushroom Land, and their lives will never be ordinary ever again. In Mushroom Land, Natalia and John meet an impatient elf named Oo-la-lu, who was expecting Marvin. The elf sends the pair of them off on a mysterious mission to help the Queen of the Mushrooms—a mission which must be completed within six days. Following Oo-la-lu’s vague instructions, Natalia and John set off through the mushroom forest. Along the way, they find themselves delighted by the splendour and silliness of this magical world: singing choirs of mushrooms, surprising new foods, and funny elf customs. But there are also many obstacles to overcome, and many questions without answers. What are the so-called creatures all the elves seem so scared of? And what does any of this have to do with Uncle Marvin and the sick pond in his backyard? Will Natalia and John get the answers they need to complete their mission and return home? Heartfelt, funny, and suspenseful, Mushroom Land tells a unique story of courage, friendship, adventure, and the magical power of laughter.

"A tale of diversity within our damaged landscapes, The Mushroom at the End of the World follows one of the strangest commodity chains of our times to explore the unexpected corners of capitalism. Here, we witness the varied and peculiar worlds of matsutake commerce: the worlds of Japanese gourmets, capitalist traders, Hmong jungle fighters, industrial forests, Yi Chinese goat herders, Finnish nature guides, and more. These companions also lead us into fungal ecologies and forest histories to better understand the promise of cohabitation in a time of massive human destruction."--Publisher's description.
