Armchair Fiction presents extra large editions of classic mystery-crime double novels. The first novel is "The Naked Storm" by well-known science fiction and suspense writer C. M. Kornbluth. Cold and steel ignite into an inferno love, betrayal--and death. A front man for a tinhorn gambling syndicate...a woman whose body had never been touched...a dissatisfied husband...a lesbian--and all of them strangers. Then the snow came, thick as mud, cold, cruel snow, and the swift streamliner could not break through the icy wall. Strangers they were, one minute before, but now--while the storm howled outside and passions raged within--they were lovers, killers, savage beasts. A train stands still in the cold wasteland of America, and for these four people, time stands still, civilization fades, and the call of flesh is heard in the darkened corridors... The second novel is a true classic of nail-biting suspense, "The Man Outside" by Alexander Blade. It was a crushing, mind-numbing letter that Sergeant John Tomczik received one day as he was knee deep in a WWII foxhole. His wife Margaret had thrown him the ultimate curveball--it was over, she said; don't come looking for her. To add to his despair, when Tomczik returned home he found that his wife's last known address was on Railroad Street--the shadiest part of town, where the scum of the earth lived and stole for the pure joy of it. Even worse, the address was that of a seedy bordello, filled with worst kind of women and men, out to satisfy their lust for flesh and love of money. Then the ultimate--Tomczik was told his wife was dead from an apparent suicide... In the deepest part of his soul, though, John Tomszik knew Margaret could never have taken her own life. And when the facts all started falling into place, there was only one explanation that made sense--she was murdered. His problem--to find out how, who, and why...

At first it was just a lark--bribing the stewards to steal food, bribing the conductors to steal blankets, raiding the club car, becoming a trainful of drunks. But then--then they began stealing morphine, and after that they began swapping mates, and after that... Finally the lights went out. And a modern-day miracle of streamlined engineering was turned into a cage of evil, human beings become beasts, and for three days the meaning of civilization was forgotten, and carnality ruled!

Bronwyn Trotter's "The Trappers Promise" is a hard hitting Novel set in the wilds of the Rockies: where only the toughest of women can surive. ‘Born on a mountain in the Rockies where wolves are hunted for their valuable skins, Sarah Cole has to contend with trapping wolves and nineteen trappers. Four of whom have made a promise to her father to look out for her if he should be killed. When her father dies during a card game, she loses her winter home Mountain View Lodge and is thrust into the care of the trappers. Finding that men are now looking at her more as a woman than a trapper, Sarah finds battling vicious wolves is far easier than dealing with them and a wealthy rancher Major Hardy trying to stop her from becoming friendly with his son Frank. Major Hardy’s idea of a wife for Frank is Millicent Crawley, daughter of the general store owner. Sarah will do what she has to, even if it means using the wolves to get her son, stolen from her by his grandfather, back to her.’

Fictionalizing Anthropology written by Stuart J. McLean and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-22 with Social Science categories.

What might become of anthropology if it were to suspend its sometime claims to be a social science? What if it were to turn instead to exploring its affinities with art and literature as a mode of engaged creative practice carried forward in a world heterogeneously composed of humans and other than humans? Stuart McLean claims that anthropology stands to learn most from art and literature not as “evidence” to support explanations based on an appeal to social context or history but as modes of engagement with the materiality of expressive media—including language—that always retain the capacity to disrupt or exceed the human projects enacted through them. At once comparative in scope and ethnographically informed, Fictionalizing Anthropology draws on an eclectic range of sources, including ancient Mesopotamian myth, Norse saga literature, Hesiod, Lucretius, Joyce, Artaud, and Lispector, as well as film, multimedia, and performance art, along with the concept of “fabulation” (the making of fictions capable of intervening in and transforming reality) developed in the writings of Bergson and Deleuze. Sharing with proponents of anthropology’s recent “ontological turn,” McLean insists that experiments with language and form are a performative means of exploring alternative possibilities of collective existence, new ways of being human and other than human, and that such experiments must therefore be indispensable to anthropology’s engagement with the contemporary world.
