Enormous changes are occurring in the organization and financing of the U.S. health care systemâ€"rapid changes that are being driven by market forces rather than by government initiatives. Although it is difficult to predict what they system will look like once it begins to stabilize, the changes will affect all components of the health care workforce, and the numbers and types of health care professionals that will be needed in the futureâ€"as well as the roles they will fillâ€"will surely be much different than they were in the past. Despite numerous studies in the past 15 years showing that we might have more doctors than we need, the number of physicians in residency training continues to grow. At the same time, there is evidence that the demand for physician services will decrease as a result of growth of managed care. All of this is evidence that the demand for physician services will decrease as a result of growth of managed care. All of this is taking place at a time when, coincident with the result of failure of comprehensive health care reform, there is no coordinated and widely accepted physician workforce policy in the United States. The present study examines the following three questions: (1) Is there a physician policy in the United States? (2) If there a surplus, what is its likely impact on the cost, quality, and access to health care and on the efficient use of human resources? (3) What realistic steps can be taken to deal with a physician surplus? December

Summary: • Presents a comprehensive overarching framework to portray the determinants of the nation’s health and organize the major components of the Book. Then, under each major component, we present a more detailed framework capturing the essential elements of that particular component of the overarching framework. This would be an important new addition to the Book and will make better sense to the readers when approaching the reading materials. • The book cross-links to Delivering Healthcare in the US and Essentials of the US Health Care System books so that the readings presented in this Book would also become background and supplemental readings of the two other textbooks. • In front of each major component, a summary section highlights the major issues and challenges related to that component and provides a summary of the representative articles to follow. This helps readers clearly grasp the essential elements related to that component and understand the main objectives of each of the selected readings for that component. • The Book will include both classic readings and new readings published within the last five years. • New features: Introduces articles on healthcare delivery and interventions to address health determinants and improve population health from other countries in the world. Readers will benefit from learning from other countries in both healthcare delivery and health determinants interventions. Other positive features of the Book include: • Limited use of tables and figures to allow readers to grasp the essence of the chapter without too much distraction • The book can be used either stand-alone as a textbook or a secondary reader to a health care related course Courses will be found in: Schools of Public Health Department of Health Administration and Policy School of Nursing School of Medicine Allied Health Competitive Features: Timely / current Concise and easy-to-follow Well-organized Focusing on essentials of U.S. health care delivery Include lessons and experiences from foreign countries Inexpensive Qualifying Questions: a) Do your students have limited knowledge of U.S. health care? – The book includes overviews and collection of articles that provide an introduction to the most essentials components of U.S. health care delivery at layman’s terms. b) Is current information important in your teaching? – The book provides relevantly current articles on important components of U.S. health care delivery. Its relatively short-length facilitates quick updates from year to year. c) Is coherence important to you and your students? – The book uses a comprehensive framework to organize the parts and chapters. Its limited use of tables and figures does not cause too much a ‘slow-down’.

Breaking Conventions written by Patricia Auspos and has been published by Open Book Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-13 with Social Science categories.

This rich history illuminates the lives and partnerships of five married couples – two British, three American – whose unions defied the conventions of their time and anticipated social changes that were to come in the ensuing century. In all five marriages, both husband and wife enjoyed thriving professional lives: a shocking circumstance at a time when wealthy white married women were not supposed to have careers, and career women were not supposed to marry. Patricia Auspos examines what we can learn from the relationships of the Palmers, the Youngs, the Parsons, the Webbs, and the Mitchells, exploring the implications of their experiences for our understanding of the history of gender equality and of professional work. In expert and lucid fashion, Auspos draws out the interconnections between the institutions of marriage and professional life at a time when both were undergoing critical changes, by looking specifically at how a pioneering generation tried to combine the two. Based on extensive archival research and drawing on mostly unpublished letters, journals, pocket diaries, poetry, and autobiographical writings, Breaking Conventions tells the intimate stories of five path-breaking marriages and the social dynamics they confronted and revealed. This book will appeal to scholars, students, and anyone interested in women’s studies, gender studies, masculinity studies, histories of women in the professions, and the history of marriage.
