12 lectures, Hamburg, May 5-31, 1908 (CW 103) During Pentecost 1908--seven years after he had given the world his book Christianity As Mystical Fact and the first intimation of the consequences of his Christ experience--Rudolf Steiner began his great work of renewing humanity's understanding of the Mystery of Golgotha and its meaning for human and earthly evolution. Accordingly, he turned to the deepest, most spiritual of the Gospels--that of the initiate St. John. In this lecture course, readers will find that the incarnation, death, and resurrection of the Divine Word, or Logos, reveals the mission of the Earth: Love. We learn of the mysteries behind Lazarus' resurrection, the "I AM" sayings, and the seven degrees of initiation. We come to understand that the Gospel of St. John is a continuing spiritual presence--to be recalled, meditated, and permeated with one's own life. In doing so, we realized that our purpose--and that of all humankind--is to become the Virgin Sophia, a receptical for the Holy Spirit. All of Steiner's work, as Marie Steiner writes in her introduction, was "to pave the way to Christ." Indeed, at the conclusion of these lectures, Rudolf Steiner said: It will come to be understood that Christianity is only beginning its influence and will fulfill its real mission only when it is understood in its true, spiritual form.... The more these lectures are understood in this sense, the better they will be understood as they were intended. This volume is essential if one is to truly understand Rudolf Steiner's understanding of esoteric Christianity and its place in the world today and in the future. This volume is a translation of Das Johannes-Evangelium (GA 103).

Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), the Austrian founder of Anthroposophy, is frequently viewed by those familiar with his teaching as unique and separate from other spiritual teachers of our modern era. While, Steiner is thought by anthroposophists to be a scientist and a philosopher, as well as an interpreter of events depicted in Christian scriptures, he is nevertheless generally ignored by scientists and philosophers, as well as by both liberal and fundamentalist scriptural scholars and theologians. In this book, Robert McDermott--the editor of American Philosophy and Rudolf Steiner, which investigates Steiner's philosophy in the context of American philosophers--places Steiner and his work in the context of a variety of spiritual teachers and teachings, both Western and Eastern. In doing so, the reader is guided to new perspectives that show the similarities and contrasts between Steiner's Spiritual Science and a number of Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and secular spiritual worldviews. The kindred spirits in this book include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, C.G. Jung, Teilhard de Chardin, Martin Buber, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Gandhians, feminists, ecologists, and more. Steiner went as far up the spiritual ladder as any modern individual but, unlike some enthusiasts for Steiner, McDermott is also impressed by other reli-gious thinkers and spiritual practitioners who have been helpful to those of us in need of encouragement and guidance and whose vistas and insights may not have been researched or explained by Steiner. For those with unbiased, open minds, this book presents a fresh look at Rudolf Steiner, a modern spiritual initiate, and his contributions to the world, along with a generous and appreciative view of his kindred spirits of our time. Key To Life written by Iddo Oberski and has been published by Strategic Book Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07 with categories.

This short book provides a sketch of the important, but underrated book written by 19th-century Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, The Philosophy of Freedom. The purpose of Key to Life is to help new readers make sense of the essential ideas of Steiner's book and prepare them for working through the detailed account itself. Grasping the key ideas should inspire readers to dive into the original at a later time and read it without encountering major obstacles. While Steiner's work delves into the age-old question of freedom of will, his approach to the experiential exploration of the nature of thinking is unique. A human act can only meaningfully be called free if the person acting is fully conscious of the reasons for his/her action. This means that the degree of freedom of the act is determined by the degree of freedom of the thinking preceding the act. But what is thinking? Iddo Oberski's book explains how Steiner sees thinking as a manifestation in us of a natural phenomenon, and as such, thinking should be understood as a real experience of the spiritual world. Steiner's philosophy sparked a movement called Anthroposophy, which seeks to develop a path to knowledge that runs in between science and mysticism. First-time author Iddo Oberski is originally from Amsterdam, Netherlands. He is now a lecturer at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Throughout his studies in neurobiology, primatology and education, he always thought that a real knowledge of the human being was missing. In Steiner's book, he felt he finally got some answers. Few thinkers from outside the United States have touched American culture in as many ways as Rudolf Steiner. Agriculture, education, spirituality, and medicine --or more precisely, alternative practices in these fields --all bear clear marks of his influence, for those with eyes to see. Yet the very breadth of Steiner's impact has perhaps made him harder, not easier, for observers of American culture to notice. American Philosophy and Rudolf Steiner aspires to raise Steiner's profile by digging into just one field of inquiry: philosophy. Before he became known to the world as a transmitter of clairvoyant wisdom, Steiner was an academic philosopher, editor of the scientific writings of Goethe and author of a foundational work in philosophy, The Philosophy of Freedom: The Basis for a Modern Worldview, published in 1894. That book expressed in philosophical terms many of the ideas that would later emerge as integral to the spiritual science of Anthroposophy. Though the authors cover a wide range of topics, most share an elegiac tone. They see great potential for dialogue between Rudolf Steiner and the great American philosophers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. American philosophy may have taken a wrong turn in the mid-twentieth century, when pragmatism gave way to a tradition of analytical philosophy that eschewed metaphysics as inherently meaningless and focused on the coherence or incoherence of linguistic structures. Nonetheless, many new sites of potential dialogue exist between Steiner and American philosophy. Five of the articles in this volume were written as part of a seminar on Rudolf Steiner and American Thought as part of a Project for the Renewal of Philosophy, Science, and Education sponsored by Laurance S. Rockefeller. The contributors --David Ray Griffin, Gertrude Reif Hughes, Frank M. Oppenheim, S. J., Douglas Sloan, and Robert McDermott --were originally published in ReVision: A Journal of Consciousness and Transformation (spring and summer 1991).

Discussions With Teachers written by Rudolf Steiner and has been published by SteinerBooks this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-03 with Education categories.

For two weeks, prior to the opening of the first Waldorf school in Stuttgart, Rudolf Steiner intensively prepared the individuals he had chosen to become the first Waldorf teachers. At 9:00 a.m. he gave the course now translated as Foundations of Human Experience; at 11:00 a.m., Practical Advice to Teachers; and then, after lunch, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., he held the informal "discussions" published in this book. The tone is spontaneous and relaxed. Steiner does not prescribe specific methods but introduces topics and situations, giving guidelines and allocating practical assignments that are taken up and discussed in the next session. In this way, the discussions are filled with insights and indications in many different areas of teaching - history, geography, botany, zoology, form drawing, mathematics. Speech exercises are included. This edition also includes, for the first time in English, three very important lectures on the curriculum given on the day before the school opened. These fifteen discussions constitute an essential part of the basic training material for Waldorf teachers. German sourc: Erziehungkunst (GA 295).

Steiner's Philosophy of Freedom (1894) is one of his four "basic books." It is resounding defense of the centrality of thinking in epistemology, and of imagination in ethics.I have long felt that this book exhibits a twofold nature. Certain parts transcend the time of their writing, and stand today as fresh and valid as ever. These parts of The Philosophy of Freedom are immortal.Yet other parts are not. There Steiner deals with worldviews and philosophers (notably Eduard von Hartmann) that are no longer relevant today. And these sections actually dilute the argument; although it is perhaps heretical to say so, they diminish the book as a whole. Moreover, a great deal of the volume's attraction lies in the elegance of its formulations. Again and again Steiner is able to frame his argument in lapidary maxims. These should be highlighted and brought to the fore. Thus I hit on the idea of an abridged version, which would remove the distractions and make the gems stand out.
