The New Corner Office written by Laura Vanderkam and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-21 with Business & Economics categories.

Drawing on her 18 years of experience working remotely, plus original interviews with managers, employees, and free agents who've perfected their remote routines, Laura Vanderkam shares strategies for productivity, creativity, and health in the new corner office. How do you do great work while sitting near the same spot where you watch Netflix? How can you be responsive without losing the focus necessary for getting things done? How can you maintain and grow your network when you spend less time face to face? The key is to detach yourself from old ways of working and adopt new habits to match your new environment. Long before public health concerns pushed many of us indoors, some of the most successful people fueled their careers with carefully perfected work-from-home routines. Drawing on those profiles and her own insights, productivity expert and mother of five Laura Vanderkam reveals how to turn "being cooped up" into the ultimate career advantage. Her hacks include: • Manage by task, not time. Going to an office for 8 hours makes you feel like you've done something, even if you haven't. Remote workers should set 3-5 ambitious goals for each day and consider the work day done when these are crossed off. • Get the rhythm right. A well-planned day features time for focused work, interactive work, and rejuvenating breaks. In place of a commute, a consciously chosen shut down ritual keeps work from continuing all night. • Nurture connections. Wise remote workers can build broader and more effective networks than people sitting in the same cubicle five days a week. Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, a self-starter or someone who prefers detailed directions, you can do your clearest thinking and deepest work at home--and have more energy left over to achieve personal goals or fuel bigger professional ambitions. In fact, soon you might find it hard to imagine working any other way.

In March 2002, the Home Office signed a 29 year contract with Annes Gate Property plc for funding the demolition of the old Department of the Environment building at Marsham Street, and to design and construct a new accommodation. The Home Office is due to move into their new building in 2005, at a cost of £6 million more per annum, than its existing estate, and with an overall cost of £311 million. The NAO examined the PFI contract for this new building and set out 14 recommendations, among them are: that the deal in general was good value for money, but with attendant risks; that the Home Office should decide what it wants to do with any surplus property it owns; it needs to manage its' IT projects within the new accommodation, and any IT service provider should be robustly tested to meet quality standards; that there will not be adequate accommodation for all the staff at the new building, and options should be examined to address this problem, taking into account budgetary implications and staff expectations; in the longer term the Home Office needs to realise wider business benefits, which is "the key to success of the overall accommodation strategy"

With the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, working from home has become the new normal for many. While some people already had an existing space to work from, many had to carve out a new area for themselves to spend their working hours. With considerations of necessary furniture and infrastructure, noise reduction and separation from the comings and goings of other home dwellers, the challenge is not to be minimized, especially if working with a small footprint. Architects and interior designers the world over have jumped on the bandwagon of home office design, creating original and productive work spaces within people's homes. I Work @ Home showcases design solutions from 30 international architects and interior designers and highlights the endless possibilities of this new home design trend which is likely here to stay.

Featuring elegant photographs, this sustainable architecture and design book showcases the ultra-modern homes of Singapore. Singapore is celebrated as one of the most livable cities in Asia, and Sustainable Luxury shows how the prosperous, forward-looking nation is pioneering innovative solutions for environmental, economic, social, and cultural issues faced the world over. Dr. Paul McGillick, the author of The Sustainable Asian House (Tuttle, 2013), presents twenty-seven recent residential projects created by Singapore's most talented architects to address the many complex and interconnected aspects of sustainability. Some of the homes featured here emphasize environmental needs, while others are concerned with preserving cultural traditions or supporting societal and interpersonal needs—such as extended family dwellings. Each residence, however, exhibits solutions developed from a holistic point of view. These homes typically embrace the tropical climate rather than fight it, and illustrate how smart manipulation of air flows, light, shade, water, and landscaping sustain higher levels of comfort without resorting to air-conditioning. In addition to profiling individual residences, Sustainable Luxury looks at the big picture, canvassing the most pressing issues—including changing demographics and lifestyles—and examining the available solutions. Anyone concerned with the future of our world will be fascinated by the houses presented here and the ways in which Singapore is leading the way in the development of residential architecture that is as luxurious as it is sustainable.
