Charlotte Caine isn't called "the Vampire Chef" because she's a member of New York's undead community-she just cooks for them. Her restaurant, Nightlife, is poised to take the top slot in the world of "haute noir" cuisine. But when a drunk customer causes a scene, a glowing review from the city's top food critic doesn't seem likely-especially when that customer winds up dead on Nightlife's doorstep. Now, with her brother under suspicion for the murder, Charlotte has to re-open her restaurant and clear her brother's name-before they both become dinner.

The Nightlife written by Elise Paschen and has been published by Red Hen Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-11 with Poetry categories.

The author of Infidelities and Bestiary presents a collection poetry about what is hidden in the night. In Elise Paschen’s prize-winning poetry collection, Infidelities, Richard Wilbur wrote that the poems “…draw upon a dream life which can deeply tincture the waking world.” In her third poetry book, The Nightlife, Paschen once again taps into dream states, creating a narrative which balances between the lived and the imagined life. Probing the tension between “The Elevated” and the “Falls,” she explores troubled love and relationships, the danger of accident and emotional volatility. At the heart of the book is a dream triptych which retells the same encounter from different perspectives, the drama between the narrative described and the sexual tension created there. The Nightlife demonstrates Paschen’s versatility and formal mastery as she experiments with forms such as the pantoum, the villanelle and the tritina, as well as concrete poems and poems in free verse. Throughout this poetry collection, she interweaves lyric and narrative threads, creating a contrapuntal story-line. The book begins with a dive into deep water and ends with an opening into sky. “In lean and supple lyrics darted with alarming rhymes and laced with skirmishing patterns, Paschen . . . achieves breathtaking perfection of craft and form. . . . As these poised, elegant, wry, and knowing poems crisply unlock and gracefully unfurl, they reveal fresh perceptions at every turn.” —Booklist “Not only a beautiful and inventive collection, it’s an important contribution to this period in American poetry. . . . This is poetry that reminds us of all the power and possibilities of poetry itself.” —Laura Kasischke, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award

Urban Nightlife written by Reuben A. Buford May and has been published by Rutgers University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-02 with Social Science categories.

Sociologists have long been curious about the ways in which city dwellers negotiate urban public space. How do they manage myriad interactions in the shared spaces of the city? In Urban Nightlife, sociologist Reuben May undertakes a nuanced examination of urban nightlife, drawing on ethnographic data gathered in a Deep South college town to explore the question of how nighttime revelers negotiate urban public spaces as they go about meeting, socializing, and entertaining themselves. May’s work reveals how diverse partiers define these spaces, in particular the ongoing social conflict on the streets, in bars and nightclubs, and in the various public spaces of downtown. To explore this conflict, May develops the concept of “integrated segregation”—the idea that diverse groups are physically close to one another yet rarely have meaningful interactions—rather, they are socially bound to those of similar race, class, and cultural backgrounds. May’s in-depth research leads him to conclude that social tension is stubbornly persistent in part because many participants fail to make the connection between contemporary relations among different groups and the historical and institutional forces that perpetuate those very tensions; structural racism remains obscured by a superficial appearance of racial harmony. Through May’s observations, Urban Nightlife clarifies the complexities of race, class, and culture in contemporary America, illustrating the direct influence of local government and nightclub management decision-making on interpersonal interaction among groups. The Nightlife Series is violent, sexy, and occasionally violently sexy. Vampires, strippers, escorts, night clubs, pimps and dirty cops – the Nightlife New York is never boring. Aaron Pilan’s life is forever changed when he’s shot trying to rescue a drop-dead gorgeous woman on the streets of New York. Aaron is thrust into the shocking world of vampiric slavery when Michelle shares her blood to save his life. Michelle's existence as a solitary vampire is also altered when she accepts this naive young man into her life. Bound by her blood, Aaron is subject to her authority. He walks a tightrope of strictly controlled feeding regiments and intense sexual adventures while catering to the neurotic control-freak tendencies of his new master. She vows to eliminate him if he proves too difficult to control. This story is bold and evocative, infusing blood, sex, love and turmoil in an urban drama about two vampires battling evil outside and within themselves. ˃˃˃ “If you like your vampires vicious and bloody, and your erotica with a plot, this is the book for you.” ˃˃˃ “Luedke brings his main characters to life, both incredibly flawed and powerfully charismatic, with a wonderful writing style, in this unique twist on the Vampire.” ˃˃˃ “This is unlike any vampire tale I have ever read, and is as far removed from Bram Stoker's Dracula, as New York is from Transylvania. Travis Luedke has fashioned a compelling tale of love, passion, violence and steamy hot sex, set against the backdrop of the Big Apple.” Find out what happens in the first novel of the Nightlife Series...bite into your copy today!
