The ancient Theravada Buddhist canonical suttas, the beloved Mahayana Buddhist sutras, and the Tao Te Ching have been lovingly mined for concepts and realizations. These ideas resonate with the heart of the teachings of Jesus the Nazarene as preserved in the Christian gospels. Presented in the arrangement and context of Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path, "the truths presented are timeless and universal as a complete religion in themselves," says the author. The author describes the book as serving as the message of Jesus to the world in the context of Christian of Eastern thought, and points out that it is not really a Christian work. This is foremost a Buddhist writing, devoted to the same Dharma that Buddha so loved and taught 2500 years ago. It is presented through the teachings of the One who is called the Christ in the Western world. Then again, this is not really a Buddhist work as the linkage the author has made between the concepts of Christ and Buddha create a synthesis that transcends Christianity and Buddhism. The heart of this Dharma cannot really be defined of confined by a system of thought. It lives on the immediacy of the expression of those who take it to heart.

Happiness Here And Now written by Elizabeth West and has been published by Burns & Oates this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Beatitudes categories.

West, who leads Buddhist and Christian retreats and belongs to the World Community of Christian Meditation, here uses the words of Christ's beatitudes as a jumping-off point for instruction in Buddhism. For example, "Blessed are the poor in spirit" becomes a lead-in for teaching the Buddhist virtue of detachment. "Blessed are they that mourn" segues into a Buddhist sense that death is part of life, that one should "let go of clinging to the life of the body and turn to the deathless". Christians are further instructed that this is the meaning of Christ's resurrection -- which will come as a surprise to anyone whose faith is founded on the empty tomb. West's openly stated hypothesis is that all faiths at heart are one; the unstated conclusion to which her instructions lead the reader is that that one faith is Buddhism. Prior to the chapters on the beatitudes are chapters on interfaith dialogue, meditation and meditation's psychological benefits. The book concludes with a chapter on mindfulness. The most appropriate audience for this book may be those who were raised Christian but who are interested in exploring Buddhism. West's presentation helps them make the transition by offering Buddhist teachings using Christian terminology.

This book does not go into the volumes of rules, discourses, and teachings set out in the Buddhist canon but addresses directly the essential doctrines of the Buddhist faith shared by all the different sects of Buddhism. It is essentially written for easy reading while capturing the essence of the Buddhist faith and that of Christianity. More importantly, it dicusses the major doctrine of self-denial, meditation methods, enlightenment, and the Samsara cycles, etc., came from. The book will compare the beginnings and the basic tenets of the Buddhist faith with that of Christianity. It briefly describes the basics of both faiths and the different definitions of what happiness and blessings are. It addresses fundamental doctrines of the Buddhist faith regarding the Samsara cycle, self-denial meditation, Nirvana, and hell, as compared to the Christian beliefs in salvation, resurrections, eternal life, and hell. This second edition cites from the ancient sacred Vedic Hindu texts, from whence the Buddhist's major doctrines were derived. You can compare it for yourself and draw your own conclusions. It also explores the Gautama Siddhartha's famous Path to Enlightenment with the Four Noble Truths and the Golden Rule of the Noble Eightfold Path. It delves into Buddhist meditation of chanting and mantras versus Christian meditation. The basic doctrine of Buddhism is that only man can save himself, and that is compared with the Christian doctrine of salvation and eternal life. And finally, a comparison is made between Buddha (Gautama Siddhartha) with Jesus Christ of the Bible. Theravada Buddhism does not have any gods or deities, but all the other forms of Buddhism gave common gods with the Hittite, Matanni, Hurrian, Canaanite, and Sumerian civilizations.

Zen Way Jesus Way written by Tucker N. Callaway and has been published by Tuttle Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-08 with Religion categories.

This groundbreaking book successfully fuses the two overlapping traditions of Zen Buddhism and Christianity. Very few Christians who are interested in Zen Buddhism understand the fundamentals of the religion itself. Most of the books which are available on Zen are superficial and fraught with caricatures and erroneous generalizations - concentrating more on meditation than on the real essence of Zen. Now the Christian who has been waiting for a clear and thorough explanation of Zen in terms he can understand has been provided with Zen Way--Jesus Way--a unique inside look at Christianity and Zen Buddhism by Dr. Tucker N. Callaway, a committed Christian missionary who for twenty years has practiced zazen in Japanese temples in an effort to reach the heart of the faith. Calloway has a knack for making philosophical concepts clear to the general reader and begins Zen Way--Jesus Way by presenting the fundamental presuppositions of Zen and several of the concepts which are logically deduced from them. Next he relates some of his experiences in Buddhist temples, while explaining the practical applications of Zen philosophy. Finally he interprets the Jesus Way in a manner that makes possible a genuine comparison with the Zen way.

Jesus Meets The Buddha written by James T. Kim and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-13 with Religion categories.

Does any one religion have all the answers? Or must we find the answers to life’s questions within ourselves? What would the Buddha think of Jesus’ message of unconditional love? Would the Buddha and Jesus have any common ground? In Jesus Meets the Buddha, author James Kim attempts to answer these questions and many more by exploring the histories and beliefs of two of the world’s major religions: Christianity and Buddhism. Driven by his own desire to answer questions such as “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” Kim builds on the discourses of the world’s greatest thinkers to examine religions and philosophies, including Judaism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and even Voodoo. His conclusion is that every religion in existence today is a precious gem of human history and an irreplaceable facet of the giant mosaic that makes up our world. He argues that by combining Jesus’ teaching with the long-held ethical and religious traditions of the East, we can build a meaningful unity for humankind. Provocative and well-researched, Jesus Meets the Buddha is a must-read book for anyone interested in the world’s religions or who is looking for their own answers about their place in the universe.
