The Oh My God Delusion is Ross O'Carrolly Kelly at his finest - and the publc agrees. It was voted Ireland's favourite book in Eason's 125th birthday poll and won the 2010 Irish Book Award for Popular Fiction. Ross thought the porty was going to last forever. He certainly didn't believe the current economic blahdy blah was going to affect people like him. But as he watched the shutters fall, one by one, on all his old haunts - Renards, Mint, Guess Meanswear - he was forced to question all the truths that he once held as sacred. Sorcha's boutique was bleeding him dry, the Deportment of Social Welfare had stuck two yahoos in the penthouse next door, while Oisinn - his business empire in ruins - hadn't been seen since he porked his cor at Dublin Airport and took off for who knows where. 'Isn't it wonderful?' the old man went to Ross. 'Times like these, they bring out the best in people like us.' But just when he thought the recession couldn't get any worse, an unexpected twist in the tale threatened to take away the most precious thing in the world to him. 'Ross at his best: razor sharp, magnificently plotted and an utter joy to read' Irish Mail on Sunday 'Ross's misadventures and on-the-nose observations never fail to provoke a laugh-out-loud reaction ... bursting at the seams with spot-on parody' Irish Times 'Will leave you with pains in your cheeks from laughing' RTÉ Guide The Oh My God Delusion is the tenth novel in Paul Howard's 'Ross O'Carroll-Kelly' series. Ross books have sold half a million copies, are annually nominated for the Popular Fiction prize at the Irish Book Awards - where they have twice won the prize - and are also critically acclaimed as satirical masterpieces. Titles include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightdress, Should have Got off at Sydney Parade, This Champagne Mojito is the Last Thing I Own, Rhino What You Did Last Summer, NAMA Mia! and The Shelbourne Ultimatum.

Should we believe in God? In this new book, written for a new generation, the brilliant science writer and author of The God Delusion, explains why we shouldn't. Should we believe in God? Do we need God in order to explain the existence of the universe? Do we need God in order to be good? In twelve chapters that address some of the most profound questions human beings confront, Dawkins marshals science, philosophy and comparative religion to interrogate the hypocrisies of all the religious systems and explain to readers of all ages how life emerged without a Creator, how evolution works and how our world came into being. For anyone hoping to grapple with the meaning of life and what to believe, Outgrowing God is a challenging, thrilling and revelatory read. --------------------------------

God Is No Delusion written by Thomas Crean and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-01 with Religion categories.

Richard Dawkins, biologist and best-selling author, claims that belief in God is a "delusion" and that "religion" harms society. Dawkins contends that he has reason and evidence on his side, and he dismisses faith as unfounded, even irrational. Dominican Thomas Crean tackles Dawkins' claims head-on. He presents straightforward arguments for God's existence, and he uses reason and evidence to defend such things as miracles and the authority of the Bible. He also shows how God is important for a coherent understanding of morality, and why Dawkins' approach winds up reducing morality to the individual's subjective likes and dislikes. By demonstrating how Dawkins' criticisms rest on misunderstandings, superficial readings, poor argumentation, a lack of historical awareness, and not a little prejudice, Crean reveals Dawkins to be out of his philosophical and theological depth, and his case against God to be fundamentally flawed.

STOP! If you do not wish to have your beliefs challenged, then this book is not for you! Over the last few years, my belief in the existence of God has gone from 0.000000001% to 51% making God's existence now more likely than not. You will have heard all the tired old arguments in favour of God, "the blind watchmaker" etc. You will have heard all the arguments against God's existence, as laid out in books such as Richard Dawkins' God Delusion, but here are some very different arguments, in favour of a very different God. This book sets out to prove the existence of a God, but looking for evidence of God in the religious texts is like looking for evidence of evolution in the Just So Stories! We will only ever make sense of our world though science. The various versions of God all seem highly improbable to me, but there are also many inconsistencies in the Darwin alternative. My version of God is sentient, monitoring and influencing many aspects of our lives. If this is so, this would answer many questions... Why the stop-start evolution we see in living things and the fossil records? Why are we pre-programmed to die? Why do all animals have a set life expectancy? Why has natural selection predominantly selected 1 male: 1 female instead of a far more productive 1: 10? Why were more boys born after so many men died in the 1st and 2nd world wars? When some insects have a 1 year life cycle and bacteria have a 20 minute life cycle why don't the bacteria evolve resistance 26,280 times faster? Why has Paramecium remained unchanged for a billion years? With only 10% of the cells in your body being human are you an individual or a colony? Why are we loosing good biological advantages like hearing and smell? Why has male fertility halved in the last 30 years? Why do super lethal pandemics suddenly stop killing? Why is life expectancy so different for different animals? Why do animals reproduce sexually? Why? Why? Why?...

This book offers a detailed engagement between the French philosopher Jacques Derrida and the contemporary Irish author Paul Howard, aka Ross O’Carroll-Kelly. The book offers insightful analyses of Derrida’s deconstructive theory with all its concepts, non-concepts and neologisms, thus showing how they can be used in order to provide a critique of the socio-linguistic realm of Howard’s fictional series. Through his work, Howard set in ink a depiction of Ireland, and specifically Dublin, throughout the Celtic Tiger era and its aftermath. The book promotes a dialogue between Derrida and Howard in order to cultivate a succinct and accessible overview of critical theory.

Fame. Fortune. Screaming girls. The adoration of strangers. I've had it all before, yet nothing could have prepared this Horny Little Devil for his new life in the City of Angels. Sacked as the coach of the Andorra rugby team and on the run from the sister I never knew I had, I decided to head west, vowing to win back my wife and daughter from a risk assessor predicting economic doom for the world. Imagine my shock when I discovered that my old dear, on a nationwide book tour, was already busy charming America out of its collective elasticated pants. With Trevion, a 1991 Gulf War-veteran-turned-celebrity-Svengali, on my side, not to mention my brand new bromance with a gym instructor called Harvey, I was determined to become more famous than even her. But one nose job and one abdominal resculpt later, I no longer knew where reality ended and reality TV began ...

The Dawkins Delusion written by Alister McGrath and has been published by SPCK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-02-16 with Religion categories.

World-renowned scientist Richard Dawkins writes in The God Delusion: 'If this book works as I intend, religious readers who open it will be atheists when they put it down'. The volume has received wide coverage, fuelled much passionate debate and caused not a little confusion. Alister McGrath is ideally placed to evaluate Dawkins' ideas. Once an atheist himself, he gained a doctorate in molecular biophysics before going on to become a leading Christian theologian. He wonders how two people, who have reflected at length on substantially the same world, could possibly have come to such different conclusions about God. McGrath subjects Dawkins' critique of faith to rigorous scrutiny. His exhilarating, meticulously argued response deals with questions such as: Is faith intellectual nonsense? Are science and religion locked in a battle to the death? Can the roots of Christianity be explained away scientifically? Is Christianity simply a force for evil? This book will be warmly received by those looking for a reliable assessment of The God Delusion and the many questions it raises - including, above all, the relevance of faith and the quest for meaning.
