J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986) was thought by many to be a modern-day equivalent of the Buddha. In fact, he was once even considered to be the second coming of Christ. While many think it wonderful to live and work in close proximity with such a person, its difficult to understand the depth of what this means and how challenging this might be. In Knocking at the Open Door, author R.E. Mark Lee provides an ordinary person view of what being close-up and working together with such a man means, how it challenges one at every turn, and how it causes one to question ceaselessly, even more deeply than one ordinarily would. Lee offers an insightful, candid, and heartfelt narrative that reveals various unknown facets of the eminent world teacher J. Krishnamurti and highlights his distinctive vision for education worldwide. This comprehensive volume brings alive the practical and everyday interactions Lee had with Krishnamurti during a twenty-year period in India and the United Sates. Knocking at the Open Door shares a clear and honest account that demonstrates the challenges of working with Krishnamurti in running a school that is true to the teaching and yet able to function in the reality of modern parental, student, and educational establishment expectations.

In the fall of 1940, Winston Churchill shared an idea with Alfred Lee Loomis. In his New York Tuxedo Park laboratory and the minds including Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohr, Franck, Fermi and friend Nobel Prize-winning atom smasher Ernest Lawrence, Loomis personally bankrolled the radar detection systems that ultimately changed the course of World War II. The Open Door takes the now well-known technology into the future at the National Ground Intelligence Center. This multimillion dollar classified device is about to be turned over to the National Security Agent but two parties attempt to cash in on it illegally. Dr. Williamson identifies a VP about to steal this sophisticated weapon. He is frightened and suspects his home has been broken into. He arranges a means to stop the burglar with his own intricate device but is killed before he can report his suspecians, by an unexpected tampering of his idea. Robert Becker and neighbor, a former CIA agent, induces his friends to pursue this death. An FBI agent, an accomplice in this heist, gets too eager forcing the VP to share the problem with his Chinese contact. So through a twisted arrangement, via an imported specialist from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the FBI is burned to death before he gets his share of the pay off. Two international terrorists over-hear and learn of this multimillion dollar weapon system and agree to steal it from a physicist traitor. This man has contributed immensely to the development of the magnetron but feels that he deserves a better retirement plan. He and his wife will exchange one unit for six million dollars in a New York City hotel. The plan would have succeeded were it not for two Iranian women who are well armed and spoil the interchange. Unfortunately, several FBI agents are killed in the cross fire. The VP is cagey in that the trackers lose Dr. Julian Wicker as he heads for his meeting in Baltimore. It is too bad that two innocent people are kidnapped and ultimately taken apart to learn more about the possible magnetron exchange. Wicker is outsmarted in spite of having the help of private investigators and commits suicide falling through the glass ceiling of a restaurant. Were the lives lost really necessary? But the story ends with a twist with the six million dollar pay-off!

From King Lear to the Tragedy of Carmen, from Marat/Sade to the epic Mahabharata, Peter Brook has reinvented modern theatre, not once but again and again. In The Open Door the visionary director and theorist offers a lucid, comprehensive exposition of the philosophy that underlies his work. It is a philosophy of paradoxes: We come to the theatre to find life, but that life must be different from the life we find outside. Actors have to prepare painstakingly yet be willing to sacrifice the results of their preparation. The director’s most reliable tool may be his capacity to be bored. Brook illustrates these principles with anecdotes that span his entire career and that demonstrate his familiarity with Shakespeare, Chekhov, and the indigenous theatres of India and Iran. The result is an unparalleled look at what happens both onstage and behind the scenes, fresh in its insights and elegant in its prose.

The warm hearted memoir depicting the struggle and eventual success of one woman is timely in that the stories of refugees seeking to make the United States their home is becoming so much apart of our everyday lives. In THE OPEN DOOR, Author Neatris Mitchell takes us on her journey from poor upbringing in Jamaica to success in the media fields here in the U.S. Rarely is a book written autobiographical format distinctive and compelling enough to be interesting to those outside the author's immediate circle of family and friends. Yet with vivid descriptions, emotionally evocative dialogue, and a certain flair for histrionics, Ms. Mitchell portrays her every personal struggle against the overlying theme of this being a struggle we must face some point in our lives. Against such backdrop, the author sets forth her unabashed faith in God as being the guiding light in her life. She relates this faith to all walks of her life, and depends on this power of the Lord to see her through. While the reader will be fascinated by the many obstacles Ms. Mitchell and her family encounter during their growing up period, he or she also be engrossed by the author's undying determination, an effect which will captivate even the hard-hearted reader This is a revealing autobiography, one in which those forces that helped shape Neatris Mitchell's character and personality are highlighted. The author writes with sense of humor and paints expressive portraits of herself and of many other colorful personalities she encounters along the way. Highly recommended for its human drama, the valuable information it imparts and its warm, glowing appeal, THE OPEN DOOR, by Neatris C. Mitchell is a must read for all adventurers and keepers of the faith.
