The "OrgZoo" concept is a set of creative metaphor characters that help develop understanding of human interactions and relationships. The characters represent behaviours and are used to facilitate constructive conversations about social interactions and the value of diversity. Activities described enable exploration of behavioural awareness and how our behavioural choices assist to engage more productively with each other. The Organizational Zoo book and Character Cards are most often used as a support resource for personal and professional development and for mentoring, coaching and self-development. It is a foundational companion book for Becoming Adaptable, a later book that adds more advanced activities and context around the application of the concepts. Part 1 contains an alphabetical list of characters that each represent recognisable behaviours in humans. Using the characters in gamified ways enables workshop participants to engage in inclusive, safe and constructive conversation about behaviours and their impacts on relationships. The greater awareness of behavioural choices generated through these interactions stimulates experiential learning outcomes including: - Understanding peers, bosses and other associates - How to use creative metaphor to build stronger trust and relationships and reduce conflict - Improve the atmosphere of your environment - Build teams with a productive mix of behaviours - Influence others more effectively - Escape the ill-meaning predators in the ecosystem - Assess the benefits of diversity in your environment - Develop positive strategies to address disagreements - Have more fun with work colleagues and friends

Just as climate change and environmental sustainability have become growing concerns in public discourse, so too have they become a persistent focus in business and organization studies. It is increasingly acknowledged that humans and animals do not dwell in separate spheres; rather, they are entangled in a number of commercial or organizational settings, and organization theory needs to respond more comprehensively to this more-than-human shift in outlook. Important questions continue to arise about the nature of contemporary organization and organizing practices: who are these for? Who benefits from the operation of increasingly globalized capital markets? What place is there for the nonhuman animals in all this organization? What place is there for multispecies companionship, solidarity, and mutual value creation today and in the future, if any? This volume brings together interdisciplinary work on human-animal relationships within business, management, and organization for the first time. It maps the contours of an emerging new discipline, here termed 'Animal Organization Studies', touching on the politics, theory, and empirical experience of multispecies life-worlds. Spanning a number of disciplinary approaches including critical geography, critical management studies, social studies of science, and human-animal studies, the volume highlights the contact points as well as the tensions in humanity's relationship with a range of animal species and habitats. It holds relevance for those investigating debates around humanism and its futures; environmental and sustainability matters; the experience of working with and on animals, and the future of animal consumption and production.

"This article examines a case of managing local change to achieve global sustainability goals, allowing zoos to do well by doing good. Many factors, such as the rapid disappearance of species worldwide and the increasing knowledge in the field of animal conservation, have evolved the mission of many zoos around the world from being just a local park offering amusement to local citizens towards global arks offering conservation of endangered species and education within global networks of cooperation. Now leading zoos are improving eco-efficiency and becoming models of conservation in a larger sense. In the process, zoos have learned to respond to a broader stakeholder base and found new legitimacy in their renewed raison d'être. This article presents findings from the case of one best-practice North American zoo and its process of changing from a traditional zoo to a centre of conservation, demonstrating how leading zoos do well by doing good. In exploring the change drivers and the role of change agents in affecting this change, it raises a number of lessons to stimulate practice and research in the field of organizations and the environment"--Abstract.

Every change takes its toll. Stefan KUhl critically examines the blind enthusiasm that continues to celebrate the leveling of hierarchies and the decentralization of organizations. Relying on studies performed in European and U.S. companies, KUhl describes why these management concepts can carry organizations to the edge of extinction. Organizations are facing the challenge of coming to grips with the threat of losing their identity, ever-escalating complexity, and the power struggles that result from both.

Beyond The Workplace Zoo written by Nigel Oseland and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-27 with Business & Economics categories.

This book begins by outlining the common design mistakes with the modern open plan office and the industry focus on cost that has resulted in the ill-fated Workplace Zoo. The requirements of office-based workers according to psychological theory and research are then explained. Dr Oseland references historical studies in psychophysics to describe how to design environmental conditions (acoustics, lighting, temperature, indoor air quality) that enhance performance by supporting basic physiological needs. More contemporary research in environmental psychology investigates how cognition affects our interpretation and response to physical stimuli depending on personality, context, attitude and other personal factors. This in turn informs individual requirements for the environmental conditions as well as group needs. Studies in evolutionary psychology and biophilia are also referenced. The latter part of the book turns to workplace solutions and focuses on how to plan, design and manage offices to accommodate our innate human needs now and in the future. The importance of designing for inclusivity is also recognised, including accommodating cultural, gender and generational differences along with designing spaces for neurodiversity. Dr Oseland’s proposed workplace solution the Landscaped Office is a revived and revised version of Bürolandschaft with a contemporary twist. The impact of workplace trends, such as agile working and hot-desking, is also explored and found to complement the workplace solution, resulting in the Agile Landscaped Office. This book is key reading for professionals, and post-graduate students, in business, interior design, architecture, surveying, facilities management, building services engineering, HR and organisational or environmental psychology.
