In "The Loyalists of Massachusetts and the Other Side of the American Revolution," James Henry Stark meticulously examines the complex and often overlooked narratives of Loyalists during the American Revolution. Stark employs a rich narrative style, weaving together historical accounts, personal testimonies, and critical analysis to illuminate the experiences of those who remained loyal to the British Crown. This book serves as a pivotal contribution to Revolutionary War scholarship by challenging prevalent nationalist perspectives, revealing the internal conflicts and societal divisions that shaped colonial life in Massachusetts. Stark's detailed research provides a nuanced understanding of loyalty, identity, and betrayal in a time of upheaval, effectively situating the Loyalist experience within the broader context of American history. James Henry Stark, a prominent historian with a focus on colonial and revolutionary America, produced this work through extensive archival research and a commitment to uncovering previously marginalized voices. His background in the history of New England, combined with his interest in the Loyalist perspective, positions him as a knowledgeable guide steering readers through the complexities of this often romanticized period. Stark's work is driven by a desire to create a more inclusive historical narrative that recognizes the multifaceted experiences of all individuals affected by the Revolution. This eloquently crafted volume is a must-read for scholars and enthusiasts of American history alike. Stark invites readers to reconsider the black-and-white portrayals of the Revolutionary era by shedding light on the Loyalist plight, which resonates even in contemporary discussions of political divides and national identity. For those interested in a deeper understanding of this turbulent period, Stark's work promises to expand horizons and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of human loyalty and resistance.

Some forty scholarly works, written by historians on both sides of the Border, form the basis for this non-scholarly attempt to provide a short, simple story of events between the Spanish conquest of Mexico five centuries ago and Mexico's dominance of itself since its independence of two hundred years. Better analysis of events here described in a factually chronologic way can be found in the writer's historical sources. A reader knowing little of Mexico's history can get a good start with this writer's try to show what the large and beautiful land to the south has met and overcome on the way to what it has, and what it will become.

The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and plays a central role in both the peaceful settlement of international disputes and the development of international law. This comprehensive Commentary on the Statute of the International Court of Justice, now in its second edition, analyses in detail not only the Statute of the Court itself but also the related provisions of the United Nations Charter as well as the relevant provisions of the Court's Rules of Procedure. Five years after the first edition was published, the second edition of the Commentary embraces current events before the International Court of Justice as well as before other courts and tribunals relevant for the interpretation and application of its Statute. The Commentary provides a comprehensive overview and analysis of all legal questions and issues the Court has had to address in the past and will have to address in the future. It illuminates the central issues of procedure and substance that the Court and counsel appearing before it face in their day-to-day work. In addition to commentary covering all of the articles of the Statute of the ICJ, plus the relevant articles of the Charter of the United Nations, the book includes three scene-setting chapters: Historical Introduction, General Principles of Procedural Law, and Discontinuation and Withdrawal. The second edition of the Commentary adds two important and instructive chapters on Counter-Claims and Evidentiary Issues. The combination of expert editors and commentators, and their assessment of new developments in the important work of the ICJ, make this a landmark publication in the field of international law.

America And Guerrilla Warfare written by Anthony James Joes and has been published by University Press of Kentucky this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-11 with History categories.

From South Carolina to South Vietnam, America's two hundred-year involvement in guerrilla warfare has been extensive and varied. America and Guerrilla Warfare analyzes conflicts in which Americans have participated in the role of, on the side of, or in opposition to guerrilla forces, providing a broad comparative and historical perspective on these types of engagements. Anthony James Joes examines nine case studies, ranging from the role of Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, in driving Cornwallis to Yorktown and eventual surrender to the U.S. support of Afghan rebels that hastened the collapse of the Soviet Empire. He analyzes the origins of each conflict, traces American involvement, and seeks patterns and deviations. Studying numerous campaigns, including ones staged by Confederate units during the Civil War, Joes reveals the combination of elements that can lead a nation to success in guerrilla warfare or doom it to failure. In a controversial interpretation, he suggests that valuable lessons were forgotten or ignored in Southeast Asia. The American experience in Vietnam was a debacle but, according to Joes, profoundly atypical of the country's overall experience with guerrilla warfare. He examines several twentieth-century conflicts that should have better prepared the country for Vietnam: the Philippines after 1898, Nicaragua in the 1920s, Greece in the late 1940s, and the Philippines again during the Huk War of 1946-1954. Later, during the long Salvadoran conflict of the 1980s, American leaders seemed to recall what they had learned from their experiences with this type of warfare. Guerrilla insurgencies did not end with the Cold War. As America faces recurring crises in the Balkans, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and possibly Asia, a comprehensive analysis of past guerrilla engagements is essential for today's policymakers.
