This Handbook explores the interactions within the Euro-Latin American region and analyzes the interests, norms, and practices of actors influencing the governance of interregional issues and policies. The chapters examine how states and non-state players in the Atlantic region tackle issues related to asymmetries, development disparities, and adaptation to the global system. Eight sections cover the unique characteristics of the interregional connections between the European Union (EU) and Latin America. The first examines multiple perspectives on defining and understanding Euro-Latin American Space, and the second continues with explaining the role of three leading EU institutions in the relationship with Latin America. EU relations with Latin American regions and some individual countries are the subject of sections three and four. The economic and political bi-regional agendas are explored in sections five and six. This Handbook closes with two sections focused on the societal experiences and the role of external actors.

Zusammenfassung: This handbook comprehensively covers topics in international relations, with a specific focus on China-Europe-Africa relations. This triangular relationship brings substantial contribution for the formation of an emergent new international order. With China being the second largest economy, and a growing power in military, technology, trade and cultural relations, the book provides decisive research on the key aspects that ground the country's external relations with Europe and Africa. The first three parts of the book covers issues related to strategy, economy, and security, with specific case studies. In addition, the fourth part, not only focuses on China-Europe-Africa, but also extends to chapters on multilateralism and relations with other countries, regions, and economic communities. In doing so, the book also addresses topics on the Ukraine war, Covid-19, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Gateway, and the balance of major powers. Yichao Li received her Ph.D. from the Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries, City University of Macau (China) and a Post-Doc diploma from ISCTE-IUL (Portugal). Currently, she is Assistant Research Fellow at Institute of African Studies, Zhejiang Normal University (China). Francisco José Leandro received his Ph.D. in political science and international relations from the Catholic University of Portugal (2010). He is currently Associate Professor with Habilitation and Deputy Director of Institute of Global and Public Affairs, University of Macau (China), and researcher at OBSERVARE/UAL, and at CEI/ISCTE-IUL (Portugal). Jorge Tavares da Silva is an Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior (Portugal) and Associate Researcher at the Public Policy Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policy. He is a founding member of China Observatory, European Association for Chinese Studies, Association of Chinese Political Studies and Portuguese Political Science Association. Carlos Rodrigues is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences of the University of Aveiro (Portugal). He holds the position of head of department, coordinator of the Center for Asian Studies and the Master in Chinese Studies. Carlos is also an Associate Researcher at the Public Policy Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policy.

Global Governance from Regional Perspectives argues that the academic debate on global governance has neglected the combination of power with value constellations/culture. Both input and output legitimacy, for instance, or the exercise of control and influence are inextricably related to culture, worldviews, and values. The book questions theoretically the Western hegemonic and hence 'invisible' definition of governance and related concepts, as well as the Western hegemony over global governance institutions. It looks from the ground up whether, and how, alternative practices, institutions/networks, and concepts/norms of global governance are emerging in relation to emerging powers and regional integration systems. Global Governance from Regional Perspectives starts with a critical reading of global governance from multi-disciplinary views and engages with two important and under-studied aspects, notably how global governance can be measured and what lies behind such measurements , and questions the democratic deficit of global governance. The book provides a series of regional and country perspectives on global governance which engage with a specific example of an institution, process, or issue that is used to highlight why and how the western hegemonic views and practices of global governance are (or not) contested. The book offers a mapping of global governance phenomena in different regions of the world and a critical readings of those. As such this volume is different from all international relations or political science collections on global governance and also opens up a new field of study that has been hitherto neglected in sociological or cultural studies.
