Utilizing empirical and evaluative data sources scholars, professionals, and researchers in transnational organized crimes (TOCs) here depict and analyse the dynamic nature of associated crises affecting the African continent. The Handbook also explores the interconnectedness of TOCs beyond the shores of Africa, and the ‘borderless’ configuration of related criminalities is analysed in depth. With chapters ranging from human trafficking, to arms and migrants smuggling, illicit financial flow, insurgency, and terrorism among others within and beyond the borders of Africa, this book provides overview and analysis of cross-border and transnational organized criminality in Africa in the twenty-first century.

This handbook provides critical analyses of the theory and practices of small arms proliferation and its impact on conflicts and organized violence in Africa. It examines the terrains, institutions, factors and actors that drive armed conflict and arms proliferation, and further explores the nature, scope, and dynamics of conflicts across the continent, as well as the extent to which these conflicts are exacerbated by the proliferation of small arms. The volume features rich analyses by contributors who are acquainted with, and widely experienced in, the formal and informal structures of arms proliferation and control, and their repercussions on violence, instability and insecurity across Africa. The chapters dissect the challenges of small arms and light weapons in Africa with a view to understanding roots causes and drivers, and generating a fresh body of analyses that adds value to the existing conversation on conflict management and peacebuilding in Africa. With contributions from scholars, development practitioners, defence and security professionals and civil society activists, the handbook seeks to serve as a reference for students, researchers, and policy makers on small arms proliferation, control and regulation; defence and security practitioners; and those involved in countering violence and managing conflicts in Africa.

Illicit Firearms Markets And Organized Crime written by and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-13 with Law categories.
Illicit firearms are a key enabler of organized criminal groups and illegal trade. They facilitate conflict over control of these markets, deter legitimate state actors from intervening, are deployed to threaten and coerce communities, to extort money from victims, and to facilitate a range of crimes. The sale of illegal firearms and organized crime combine to cause significant economic, social, and political harm. There is a clear and pressing need for better understanding of how illicit firearms markets are related to other forms of transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking. Illicit Firearms Markets and Organised Crime is an interdisciplinary collection with contributions from leading and emerging experts whose research considers the intersections between illicit firearms, organized crime, and criminal networks across the globe. This cutting-edge research considers the trade of illegal firearms in different regions, with a specific focus on the interconnections and interrelationships between this trade and organised crime. Each chapter considers a particular global region and / or a specific thematic area, and sheds light on the links between the markets, the trafficking of firearms, and organized crime. A number of key themes emerge from this collection including: the methods and routes by which firearms enter illicit markets; illegal firearms as facilitators and enablers of other criminal markets and crimes; the role of illicit firearms in exacerbating organized crime and violence; as well as policy responses to illegal firearms and the efficacy of such, including unintended consequences.

The Palgrave Handbook Of National Security written by Michael Clarke and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-28 with Political Science categories.
This handbook provides a comprehensive analysis of the contemporary theory, practice and themes in the study of national security. Part 1: Theories examines how national security has been conceptualised and formulated within the disciplines international relations, security studies and public policy. Part 2: Actors shifts the focus of the volume from these disciplinary concerns to consideration of how core actors in international affairs have conceptualised and practiced national security over time. Part 3: Issues then provides in-depth analysis of how individual security issues have been incorporated into prevailing scholarly and policy paradigms on national security. While security now seems an all-encompassing phenomenon, one general proposition still holds: national interests and the nation-state remain central to unlocking security puzzles. As normative values intersect with raw power; as new threats meet old ones; and as new actors challenge established elites, making sense out of the complex milieu of security theories, actors, and issues is a crucial task - and is the main accomplishment of this book.
