At the age of ten in the mid-1970's, David Marcum discovered Mr. Sherlock Holmes, and from that point, he knew that the original 60 Canonical adventures would never be enough. This, coupled with his life-long desire to write, meant that eventually he would find a way to add new stories to The Great Holmes Tapestry. The years passed, and David collected, read, and chronologicized literally thousands of traditional Canonical Sherlockian pastiches. Then, in 2008, with time on his hands while laid off from his civil engineering job during the Great Recession, David finally found his way to Watson's Tin Dispatch Box, producing The Papers of Sherlock Holmes. These first nine short stories originally sat on a shelf in his Holmes book collection before he eventually decided to share them with others. That first collection was initially published by a small press in 2011, and then in 2013 by the premiere Sherlockian publisher, MX Publishing - and after that, there was no turning back. Since then, in addition to editing over 60 volumes (most of which are Sherlockian anthologies), David has written and published over 80 Sherlockian adventures in a variety of anthologies and magazines. Now these are being collected - along with a few others that haven’t been seen before. These first five volumes contain the majority of David’s Holmesian stories - so far, with additional adventures to be collected and published as part of this ongoing series in 2022. Join us as we return to Baker Street and discover more authentic adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the man described by the estimable Dr. Watson as “the best and wisest . . . whom I have ever known.” The game is afoot! Volume II - Records (5 Short Stories and a Novel) Sherlock Holmes - Tangled Skeins The Mystery at Kerrett’s Rood The Curious Incident of the Goat-Cart Man The Matter of Boz’s Last Letter The Tangled Skein at Birling Gap The Gower Street Murder and Sherlock Holmes and The Eye of Heka (A Novel)

The eleven stories gathered together in these two volumes share their own common feature. All have connections to the world of belles lettres, the world of literature - some to celebrated authors in particular, others to themes or stories associated with specific writers . . . . Let others plumb this collection for more subtle themes. From Maupassant to Stevenson to Fitzgerald, the authorial giants who populate these pages are explanation enough for its title. As interesting as such literary associations may be, of course, one can never forget that in the finest tradition of all the other adventures of Sherlock Holmes, these sketches depict a series of heartless criminal acts - some more gruesome than others.

A seemingly innocent concern from Lestrade about his cousin, leads Holmes back into a world left behind after the affair of The Five Orange Pips. Investigating the appearance of a body at the base of Tower Bridge, unveils a hidden cult of Satanists performing ritual sacrifices, until Holmes and the British Secret Service intervenes. Called to Scotland Yard, Holmes is re-united with an old acquaintance and dragged into a plot to undermine the Government and give its secrets to Russian spies. An old friend calls Holmes north to Hull to investigate a seemingly trivial matter of cheating, but one that may cause immense embarrassment to the heir to the throne. Strong familial ties draw Holmes and Watson to Hungary for the funeral of Baron Metzengerstein, only to find that a centuries old feud between ruling houses ignites once more resulting in death and carnage. An innocent gathering to showcase wares and food from far flung Borneo, ends with the mysterious death of the host and all evidence pointing to a native of that land.

'"Is it really possible, do you suppose," said Sherlock Holmes to me one morning, as we took breakfast together, "that a healthy and robust man may be so stricken with terror that he drops down dead?"' So begins 'The Adventure of the Brown Box'. Even better than his first collection, twelve new stories from the much praised Denis O. Smith, including 'The Adventure of the Velvet Mask', 'The Adventure of the Tomb on the Hill', and 'The Secret of Shoreswood Hall'. Smith's stories are of the sort most eagerly devoured by avid fans of Holmes and Dr Watson: a would-be client tells Holmes a strange tale, and he is drawn in to a seemingly impenetrable mystery. Whether in the shrouding fog of London, or far from the city, deep in the countryside, these fast-paced stories, set in the late nineteenth century, before Holmes's disappearance at the Reichenbach Falls, recreate with wonderful fidelity the world of Conan Doyle's best Holmes stories. This captivating anthology brings to a new audience the very best of Denis O. Smith's work in a satisfyingly hefty compendium.
