Excerpt from The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, 1919, Vol. 13: Part One Edward Everett, co-worker and friend of Webster, with exceptional opportunity for judging his subject, wrote what Curtis calls a beautiful and carefully written biographical memoir. This seems to have been the result of an introduction furnished by Everett to the second volume of the Speeches and Forensic A rguments Webster asking in letters written March 21, 1847, and January 8, 18 51 that it be revised and extended to apply to a new edition of all his speeches.' This new edition, containing Everett's biographical introduction, was The Works of Daniel Webster (185 1; and other editions), in 6 volumes. The memoir, again extended, appears also in the National Edition (1903) Everett also delivered a eulogy in Boston in 18 59. Raymond's work was a remark able example Oi nimble journalism. It appeared first in the New York Daily Times of October 25, 1852, and then in two editions in book form. Lanman wrote on The Private Life of Daniel Webster (1 8 5 2) from knowledge gained as his private secretary. George Ticknor Curtis, one of Webster's literary executors, produced in his Life of Daniel Webster (1 870; several editions) a monument to the statesman's memory which has been the code mecum for all later biographers. It has been somewhat Of a custom to distrust Harvey's Reminiscences and A necdotes (187 7; and later editions), while making considerable use of his material; but Dr. Fisher, in explaining this tend. Excerpt from Bibliographical Society of America Proceedings and Papers, Vol. 1: Part One, 1904-1905 Mr. Thomson's paper gave rise to an interesting discussion, in the course of which the sentiment developed that the bet ter plan would be for the Chicago society to go on a year or two longer and issue a couple of creditable publications, thereby proving its reason for existence, and drawing more non-resident members to its ranks. At the moment when these outnumber the resident members it would be in order to change the name and organization of the society, and en large its plans and held of work. It was voted, however, that a committee of these resident members be appointed to consider Mr. Thomson's suggestions and report at a similar meeting, to be held in connection with the next conference of the American Library Association. The committee was ap pointed, and at a meeting held at the Magnolia conference of the American Library Association, June 18, 1902, this committee rendered a report, of which the following is a summary.
