Ten years after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (Pd), in 1992, I had been able to overcome many of the movement symptoms, and have also been able to show, many other Pd patients, how to do the same. Because I was the only person who has done this, certain members of the medical profession told other Pd patients that I do not have Pd and they should not listen to what I am telling them in my book, "Reverse Parkinson's Disease". That is without ever having examined me. The rationale behind that is that there is no cure for Pd, therefore I obviously did not have Pd. I NEVER CLAIMED TO BE CURED! I still have many of the symptoms, but because I no longer need to take medication, I think that is the reason why those doctors are telling their patients I do not have Pd. There is obviously a conflict between the medical world and Pd patients. There are many other conflicting areas surrounding the treatment of Pd that I pose in this book. This book gives a brief account of how I managed to overcome the symptoms and what I must do to maintain my present condition. I pose a question that might give us a clearer idea of how the drugs industry approach the subject of cures and treatments. We Patients want a cure for Pd but, it is my feeling that it is in the Drug Industry's interest to treat the symptoms over a long period of time, rather than curing it. What they would get for a cure would be a fraction of what they get for the years of treatment they currently do.

For many years, the need to develop valid tools to evaluate signs and symptoms of Parkinson Disease (PD) has been present. However the understanding of all intricacies of rating scales development was not widely available and the first attempts were relatively crude. In 2002, the Movement Disorders Society created a task force to systemize the measurement of Parkinson's Disease. Since then, the Task Force has produced and published several critiques to the available rating scales addressing both motor and non-motor domains of Parkinson Disease. Additionally the task force initiated a project to develop a new version of the UPDRS, the MDS-UPDRS. But none of this was made available in one convenient source. Until now. Rating Scales in Parkinson's Disease: Clinical Practice and Research is written for researchers from the medical and social sciences, and for health professionals wishing to evaluate the progress of their patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease. The book is both exhaustive in the description of the scales and informative on the advantages and limitations of each scale. As such, the text clearly guides readers on how to choose and use the instruments available. Extensive cross-referenced tables and charts closely integrate the parts of the book to facilitate readers in moving from one symptom domain to another.

Parkinson S Fighting Above My Weight written by John Pepper and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-08 with categories.

This book sets out to make a case for believing that we Parkinson's Disease (Pd) patients have a conflict of interests with the medical world! I have had Pd symptoms since 1963, but was only diagnosed in 1992, possibly due to the intense exercise I did in the gym for twenty-three of those years before diagnosis. In 2002 I was able to stop taking any Pd medication and have lived a normal life for the past nineteen years. I am now 86 years old and am probably healthier than most men of my age. The conflict I refer to is caused by the medical world only TREATING Pd, while we, the Pd patients, want a CURE! We don't have a LIFE, it is a long miserable existence! This COVID Pandemic proves that for illnesses that kill us, the medical world has found a vaccine in double quick time for Polio, HIV, Ebola, SARS, and MERS. Pd & Alzheimer's don't kill us, so it makes financial sense to rather treat the chronic illnesses over lengthy periods of time, rather than giving the patient one, or possibly more, vaccines. The income received for treating chronic illnesses amounts to a massive amount, year after year after year! What fool would want to spend a fortunes on finding cures when illnesses can be treated and the income earned from making and selling the medication and administering it to the patient is massive. I understand that argument but, I as a patient know that my quality of life, and that of my family has got progressively worse until we eventually die. Not only do we cease to earn a living and fulfil a useful purpose in society but we are now a burden to everybody. I have heard from all and sundry that we are looking for a cure for Pd, but I have also heard that about the common cold, which has been going on for well over a century. If they really are looking then they are not very good at what they do! The moment a killer disease pops up, a vaccine is found in double quick time. With Covid-19 it took less than one year. The common denominator is whether the illness is lethal or chronic. If an illness is lethal, the only money to be made is in the short time before the patient dies. With chronic illnesses and the likes of the common cold, they can be treated over lengthy periods of time, which generates a lot of income for the medical world. I have been very fortunate. Ten years after being diagnosed with Pd I was able to stop taking the Pd medication and have lived a normal life for the past nineteen years. I am not very popular with the medical profession because I have gone way ourt of my way to tell the world that there is something we can do to keep Pd under control, which is the opposite of what the medical profession has been saying in the past, They say, quite rightly, there is no cure for Pd, but they don't want to tell patients what I have been doing over the past twenty-nine years that has helped me to thumb my nose at Pd, providing that I continue to do what I do. If I don't continue, because of other health problems that prevent me from doing so, then my symptoms quickly get worse. I am highlighting this conflict because I think pressure must be brought to bear on the medical world to get its act into gear. I want the whole Pd world to know what most of them are capable of doing and give them their life back again. They argue that "I don't have Pd, although all four neurologists, who have examined me, have all said I have Pd! The proof of this is the fact that if I stop what I am doing, my symptoms get worse. That means that whatever it is confirms that it does reverse my symptoms and they do come back again when I stop.

Collaborations of physicians and researchers with industry can provide valuable benefits to society, particularly in the translation of basic scientific discoveries to new therapies and products. Recent reports and news stories have, however, documented disturbing examples of relationships and practices that put at risk the integrity of medical research, the objectivity of professional education, the quality of patient care, the soundness of clinical practice guidelines, and the public's trust in medicine. Conflict of Interest in Medical Research, Education, and Practice provides a comprehensive look at conflict of interest in medicine. It offers principles to inform the design of policies to identify, limit, and manage conflicts of interest without damaging constructive collaboration with industry. It calls for both short-term actions and long-term commitments by institutions and individuals, including leaders of academic medical centers, professional societies, patient advocacy groups, government agencies, and drug, device, and pharmaceutical companies. Failure of the medical community to take convincing action on conflicts of interest invites additional legislative or regulatory measures that may be overly broad or unduly burdensome. Conflict of Interest in Medical Research, Education, and Practice makes several recommendations for strengthening conflict of interest policies and curbing relationships that create risks with little benefit. The book will serve as an invaluable resource for individuals and organizations committed to high ethical standards in all realms of medicine.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is an age-related neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor disability with a spectrum of non-motor symptoms. Similar to Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, Huntington's disease, and other aging-related movement disorders are widespread in the elderly with relatively unideal medicine-treatment effects. In recent years, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been established as an effective treatment for PD and other aging-related movement disorders, especially with motor symptoms. However, there are still many problems to be solved in research work and clinical practice in this field. For example, it is unclear regarding the most effective stimulation targets or the underlying mechanism of DBS. And it is still unknown how to choose the optimal targets among STN, GPi, PSA, VIM, etc, or if we could choose the nerve fiber for stimulation besides the nuclei, And despite wearable sensors could be a powerful tool for the digital evaluation of movement disorders or provide the feedback biomarkers for DBS, the closed-loop biomarkers for DBS are still lacking. Furthermore, apart from PD, the DBS treatment in gene-related dystonia, Huntington's disease, and other movement disorders also needs to be further explored.
