How do poetic imagination and religious beliefs interact? Exploring such questions through the concept of the religious imagination, this book integrates interdisciplinary research in the area of poetry on the one hand, and theology, philosophy and Christian spirituality on the other. Established theologians, philosophers, literary critics and creative writers explain, by way of contemporary and historical examples, the primary role of the religious imagination in the writing as well as in the reading of poetry.

The Madhyamika philosophy of Nagarjuna articulates the basic Mahayana insights in two themes: the identity of emptiness-dependent co-arising, and the two truths. In The Foundational Standpoint of Madhyamika Philosophy, Gadjin M. Nagao, one of the foremost Buddhist scholars in the world, presents an in-depth interpretation of this foundational philosophy of Mahayana Buddhism. In this book, the author has culled data from Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese, and Western sources, a rare feat which only a few scholars are capable of accomplishing. The translation is faithful, readable, and masterful.

"Not real?" Coyote howled. "A filthy lie." He grabbed a wiener and shoved the end of a willow stick through its middle. The Nowherians were deployed around a rusty wheelbarrow used as a grill for their annual Fourth of July weenie roast. Jackrabbit examined the puffy black wiener on the end of his stick. "You still upset about Frijoles saying that Funnies from Nowhere is fiction?" Coyote jabbed the coals, creating an explosion of sparks and coating his wiener in ash. "You bet I am. If we're not real, then neither is Nowhere, and the cartoon character who was boner-fidee elected President of the United States isn't either." He rapped his stick to knock off the ash, and his wiener fell into the fire. "If your wiener were parallel to the stick instead of perpendicular, that wouldn't happen," offered Pearl. He stared at her until the answer came to him. "Parallel is safer but limits you to one wiener." He seized a handful, mounted a row of six, and suspended the drooping load over the fire. "My only limitations are the length of my stick and the size of the fire."

A smart, poignant STEMinist novel perfect for fans of Lessons in Chemistry A brilliant mind needs a strong heart. Mathematical genius Dr. Meg Brightwood has just completed her life’s work—a proof of a problem so impenetrable it’s nicknamed the Impossible Theorem. Reclusive and burdened by anxiety, Meg has long since been dismissed by academia. Now everyone wants to get their hands on what she alone possesses—especially her own mathematician father. Having grown up a prodigy in a field plagued by sexism and plagiarism, Meg opts for a public presentation so there will be no doubt of her authorship. But a panic attack obliterates her plans. In defeat, she goes home and locks away the one and only manuscript of her proof. Then chance sends her the unlikeliest of allies: Isaac Wells—carpenter, high school dropout, in trouble with the law. And the one love of Meg’s life. Fifteen years ago, they did little more than hold hands. Now, they find a tenuous space where they can love and be loved for who they are—not who the world expects them to be. But when Meg goes to retrieve the Impossible Theorem, she finds it missing. Her fight for the achievement of the century will test the limits of her brilliance and the endurance of two vulnerable hearts. “Beguiling.”—Publishers Weekly “Poignant and compelling… A delightfully mathematical take on the opposites-attract paradigm.”—Kirkus “Give this to readers who like seemingly light relationship fiction that packs a deceptive, satisfying emotional punch.”—Booklist (STARRED review)
