'Immensely impressive both in its handling of primary sources and in its knowledge of the literature of the subject ... one of the first really scholarly documentations of Pentecostal belief and practice' (Church Times). `A magnificent book, critical but sympathetic, detached yet deeply involved, and meticulously documented' (William Barclay in The Expository Times).

Pneumatology And Union written by Peter Ross and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-11 with Religion categories.

Peter Ross examines how John Calvin might assist Pentecostals in the development of a global Pentecostal theology by examining the views of each on pneumatology and the Christian’s union with Christ. He conducts a conversation between the two within the contexts of the assurance of faith; providence and guidance; and justification—each an area in which the Spirit and the union are substantially involved for both parties. He also looks closely at Spirit release, showing that this Pentecostal distinctive can sit well as an extension from Calvin’s thought. Ross shows that affinities exist between Pentecostals and Calvin in these contexts. These affinities clearly identify Calvin’s thought as a rich resource for Pentecostals; one they should not hesitate to mine as they develop their own global theology.

The Pentecostal World written by Michael Wilkinson and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-01 with Religion categories.

The Pentecostal World provides a comprehensive and critical introduction to one of the most vibrant and diverse expressions of contemporary Christianity. Unlike many books on Pentecostalism, this collection of essays from all continents does not attempt to synthesize and simplify the movement’s inherent diversity and fragmented dispersion. Instead, the global flows of Pentecostalism are firmly grounded in local histories and expressions, as well as the various modes of their worldwide reproduction. The book thus argues for a new understanding of Pentecostal and Charismatic movements that accounts for the simultaneous processes of pluralization and homogenization in contemporary World Christianity. Written by a distinguished team of international contributors across various disciplines, the volume is comprised of six parts, with each offering a critical perspective on classical themes in the study of Pentecostalism. Led by a programmatic introduction, the thirty-six chapters within these parts explore a variety of themes: history and historiography, conversion, spirit beliefs and exorcism, prosperity, politics, gender relations, sexual identities, racism, development, migration, pilgrimage, interreligious relations, media, ecumenism, and academic research. The Pentecostal World is essential reading for students and researchers in anthropology, history, political science, religious studies, sociology, and theology. The book will also be very useful for those in related fields, such as culture studies, black studies, ethnic studies, and gender studies.

My Life With The Pentecostals And Other Stuff written by Steve L. Morgan and has been published by Publish Green this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Storyteller Steve Morgan has a tale to weave for you. It involves some reflection, some irreverence, and - yes - some Pentecostals. It's the story of his life. Imagine being raised where the Devil was always around the next corner - and the end of the world could happen at any time. Then imagine growing up and learning that the rest of the world didn't subscribe to that ''flat earth, six day creation'' theory. How would you deal with that change? Author Steve Morgan has dealt with it by telling these stories - and many more - in My Life With the Pentecostals and Other Stuff. Steve recounts tales of family reunions, summer camps, and being trapped in a ditch with his grandfather (and a pile of watermelons). He also tells stories of being the main source of income in a struggling family and going out into the world to make his own fortune - and his own mistakes. Above all, Steve's storytelling will remind you what it's like to be part of a family and all that ''other stuff'' that comes with it.

A Trinitarian Exposition of the New Testament This series is designed with the serious Trinitarian Pentecostal student in mind. With a foundational commitment to the inspiration and infallibility of Scripture, each passage is explained in terms of its theological and practical significance. In addition: • The distinctive Pentecostal pneumatology is sustained • Key doctrines are identified and expounded • Important cross references within Scripture are noted • Historical connections in Church history are mentioned • Erroneous teachings are scrutinized • Comments are based on the King James Version • The KJV text is printed in the body of the commentary With a modern style of readability, this commentary series is appropriate for anyone seeking to grow and understand the truths of Scripture and is especially helpful to pastors as well as college and seminary students. Author’s Foreward As a Pentecostal student attending a Pentecostal Bible college, I went to the college bookstore to purchase my textbooks without knowing that the commentaries on my book list were written by non-Pentecostals. Even though my classes required commentaries from various publishers, none of the publishers were Pentecostal. I often wondered why a Pentecostal Bible school would use non-Pentecostal commentaries for class. What I did not know at the time was that there really was no such thing as a Pentecostal commentary written for and by Pentecostals. Since then, there have been a few Pentecostals who have written on individual books, but there are significant portions of even the New Testament that have had little or no Pentecostal voice. As a result, serious Pentecostal students have no other choice but to learn at the feet of non-Pentecostals. I am not opposed to non-Pentecostal commentaries. Indeed, I have gained considerable insights from reading such, but there are two points of theology that I must consciously filter out every time I read them. The most important concern to a Pentecostal is that the pneumatology (the study of the Holy Spirit) presented by non-Pentecostals is very different than that of a Pentecostal. The second point is the emphasis on Calvinistic doctrines especially eternal security with which most Pentecostals do not agree. In addition, there are other theological differences and substantially different hermeneutical principals that can dramatically alter the interpretation of texts in non-Pentecostal ways. In my studies, I have always desired to have a commentary that was thoroughly Pentecostal, but I never imagined that I would write one. From one Pentecostal to another, I hope you will find this series to be a breath of fresh Spirit anointed air. Series Preface While it is hoped that Bible students from other theological traditions will study and benefit from its contents, it is first and foremost Pentecostal. As such, this commentary does not include surveys of other viewpoints unless such inclusion is necessary for clarity of argument. In addition, with all due respect to our Charismatic brethren, it may be said that this series is not meant to be inclusive of Charismatic interpretations related to pneumatology. The Pentecostal Commentary series intentionally excludes views of Scripture that do not hold to its inspiration, inerrancy, and infallibility, and also excludes modern liberal arguments of authorship, date, purpose, and so on. Traditional viewpoints on these subjects will be discussed without confusing the issue. In addition, 19th century criticism methods and concerns over source documents will not often be discussed. In other words, this series assumes that the Biblical text is as God wants it to be and that it was written by the person and at the time traditionally ascribed.

This brief history and interpretation of the Pentecostal Movement has been written expressly for British readers. Just so much of the history of the Movement in its world-wide aspect has been introduced as is necessary to retain a sense of proportion, and illustrate the truly world-wide scope of the Pentecostal Revival. American and Swedish friends already have similar books written from their particular standpoint. The “Elim” work in the British Isles has had the same. There seemed a need for a more general survey of the Movement as it has developed as a whole in Britain. It is as impossible as it would be unwise to try and record every detail and incident. An attempt has been made to provide that which is really necessary—a record of those salient facts, and outstanding personalities, upon which the British history of the Movement really turns; coupled with enough of detail and incident to make the narrative vivid and alive.
