'Erling Kagge transforms and consoles us' Alain de Botton ____________________________ Surviving extreme conditions can teach us to lead a fulfilled life. No one knows this better than Erling Kagge, who was the first man in history to reach all of the Earth's poles by foot - the North, the South, and the summit of Everest. In Philosophy for Polar Explorers he brings together the wisdom and expertise he has gained from the expeditions that have taken him to the limits of the earth, and of human endurance. In sixteen meditative but practical lessons - from cultivating an optimistic outlook, to getting up at the right time, to learning to take pleasure in the small things and comfort in solitude - Erling Kagge reveals what survival in the most extreme conditions can teach us about how to lead a meaningful life. Wherever we may be headed. ____________________________ 'His wisdom will soothe and awaken' Fearne Cotton 'A delightful book that explores the strange land between getting out of bed in the morning and reaching for the moon Tristan Gooley 'A wonderfully deft Swiss army knife of a book' Dan Richards 'As an explorer Erling Kagge is world class; as a writer he is equally gifted' Sir Ranulph Fiennes 'Erling Kagge is a philosophical adventurer - or perhaps an adventurous philosopher' The New York Times 'An author for our noisy times, full of a rare and deeply redemptive languor and perspective' Alain de Botton

What's better? A bird in your hand or two in the bush? Jump the fence at the lowest or highest point? And what does that have to do with Harry Potter, Tenzing Norgay, Paris Hilton and Aristotle? Are you and Tony Soprano searching for the same things as Socrates did? And what does a Swedish punk rock band have in common with the philosopher Spinoza? It s about dreams, ups and downs and motivation. Mainly, it s not only about becoming someone, but how important it is just to be on your way. And don't forget that everyone can surprise him or herself, and do something unique and special in their lives. It might not be as difficult as you think.

An Introduction To The Philosophy Of Psychology written by Daniel Weiskopf and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-15 with Philosophy categories.

"Our topic here is psychology, the self-styled science of the mind. Psychology's aim is to explain mental phenomena by describing the underlying processes, systems, and mechanisms that give rise to them. These hidden causal levers underlie all of our mental feats, including our richest conscious perceptions, our most subtle chains of reasoning, and our widest-ranging plans and actions. While the phenomena of mind are intimately related to events occurring in the brain, these psychological explanations are, we will argue, distinct and autonomous from explanations in terms of neural processes and mechanisms. According to the view we present here, psychology and neuroscience are different enterprises. We certainly wouldn't claim that our ever-increasing understanding of how the brain works has nothing to say to psychology: on the contrary, they are complimentary, since neuroscience can provide invaluable input to psychological theorizing (and vice versa, a point that we think is not stressed often enough). But our task will be to give a thorough account of the scope, methods, content, and prospects for a distinctive science of our mental lives"--

Walking written by Erling Kagge and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-23 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

A lyrical account of an activity that is essential for our sanity, equilibrium, and well-being, from the author of Silence ("A book to be handled and savored." —The Wall Street Journal) Placing one foot in front of the other, embarking on the journey of discovery, and experiencing the joy of exploration—these activities are intrinsic to our nature. Our ancestors traveled long distances on foot, gaining new experiences and learning from them. But as universal as walking is, each of us will experience it differently. For Erling Kagge, it is the gateway to the questions that fascinate him—Why do we walk? Where do we walk from? What is our destination?—and in this book he invites us to investigate them along with him. Language reflects the idea that life is one single walk; the word "journey" comes from the distance we travel in the course of a day. Walking for Kagge is a natural accompaniment to creativity: the occasion for the unspoken dialogue of thinking. Walking is also the antidote to the speed at which we conduct our lives, to our insistence on rushing, on doing everything in a precipitous manner—walking is among the most radical things we can do.

Silence written by Erling Kagge and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-21 with Self-Help categories.

What is silence? Where can it be found? Why is it now more important than ever? In 1993, Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge spent fifty days walking solo across Antarctica, becoming the first person to reach the South Pole alone, accompanied only by a radio whose batteries he had removed before setting out. In this book. an astonishing and transformative meditation, Kagge explores the silence around us, the silence within us, and the silence we must create. By recounting his own experiences and discussing the observations of poets, artists, and explorers, Kagge shows us why silence is essential to sanity and happiness—and how it can open doors to wonder and gratitude. (With full-color photographs throughout.)
