Environmental Site Plans And Development Review written by Robert Sanford and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-15 with Social Science categories.

The most effective way to participate in land stewardship and environmental management is to get involved in the review of proposed developments. In smaller communities, this review is primarily done by a planning board or commission made up of volunteer members, guided by professionals in certain aspects such as traffic, historic preservation, civil engineering, water supply, and wastewater disposal. In larger communities, professional planning staff with the assistance of municipal engineers conducts the review, which will then be presented to the planning commission. In either case, everyone—officials, volunteers, reviewers, consultants, neighbors, and the public in general—needs to know what is being proposed. The site plan itself is the primary tool for understanding the proposal. Environmental review is not an easy task, even for consultants and professional planners. There is a need for a general guide that presents the design, infrastructure, and environmental issues to address, what a reviewer needs to know about these issues, and how to interpret them. The book points the reader to accessible, low-cost resources to aid in the review process. In these times of climate change, rising populations, energy challenges, and economic turmoil, there is a real need for development to occur in as efficient and environmentally-responsible a manner as possible. Citizen review is a critical step in the approval, alteration, or denial of site plans for land subdivision and new development. Hence, informed participants in the review processes are more important than ever. This book is designed to assist professional archaeologists, environmental consultants, and others interested in construction, development and other physical land alteration that must go before some sort of review board. The book is also suitable for college undergraduates and graduate students in fields that bring them into environmental development of sites. And it is useful for neighbors and other members of the public who want to understand proposed land development in their neighborhood.

Ninety-nine percent of the time, the world spins like a top, the skies are clear, and your refrigerator is full of good food. But the world is a volatile place—storms rage, fires burn, and diseases spread. No one is ever completely safe. Humans live as part of a very complex ecosystem that is unpredictable and merciless. Could you protect your family in the case of an emergency—domestic or global? The Disaster Preparedness Handbook will help you to establish a practical disaster plan for your entire family (covering all fourteen basic human needs) in case the unpredictable happens. Additional information is also presented for those with special needs, including the elderly and disabled, children, pregnant women, and even pets. Well-researched by an army veteran and current NASA engineer, this is the essential guide every family should have, study, and keep handy, in case the unthinkable should occur.

Beyond Sustainability written by Tim Delaney and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-28 with Political Science categories.

This book approaches environmentalism via two academic disciplines, sociology and philosophy. Both have concerns about the environment's ability not only to sustain itself but to thrive. The authors argue that rather than simple sustainability, we must promote thrivability for the sake of protecting the environment and all living things. In this greatly expanded second edition, the authors have updated data and examples, introduced new topics and concepts, and emphasized the need to lessen our dependence on fossil fuels. Numerous topics are explored, from the differences between sustainability and thrivability, and the overuse of plastic, to mass extinction, the role of natural disasters and more. The Covid-19 pandemic offers an added perspective on the relationship between disease and the environment.

Leed Lab written by Patricia Andrasik and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-22 with Architecture categories.

Facility performance evaluations inform the long-term life of a building and do not end with design or construction. To this aim, Patricia Andrasik created LEED Lab, in collaboration with the US Green Building Council, an increasingly popular international interdisciplinary collegiate laboratory course, which utilizes campus buildings as demonstration sites to facilitate the green assessment of existing buildings. LEED Lab: A Model for Sustainable Design Education uses the LEED O+M building rating system to measure and achieve performance-driven campus facilities in which the readers work and operate. The book explains in simple terms the theory, tasks, tools and techniques necessary for credit implementation and achievement, and includes case studies and exercises for practical application in each chapter. Readers will learn the conceptual scientific framework used to understand existing operational performance and how to quantify sustainable synergies, create green campus policies with administrators, and understand systems such as energy and water in a research-based application. The entire manual is accompanied by a vast online ‘Teaching Toolkit’ to provide helpful educational resources such as syllabi, lectures, examinations, assignments, Individual Student Progress Presentation (ISSP) templates, web resources, and much more. An excellent guide for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in LEED Lab or a similar campus building assessment course, as well as construction or architectural professionals and facility managers, this manual navigates the complexities of using a green building diagnostic tool such as LEED O+M towards greater environmental literacy.

A Guide To U S Environmental Law written by Arden Rowell and has been published by University of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-23 with Law categories.

Written by two internationally respected authors, this unique primer distills the environmental law and policy of the United States into a practical guide for a nonlegal audience, as well as for lawyers trained in other regions. The first part of the book explains the basics of the American legal system: key actors, types of laws, and overarching legal strategies for environmental management. The second part delves into specific environmental issues (pollution, ecosystem management, and climate change) and how American law addresses each. Chapters include summaries of key concepts, discussion questions, and a glossary of terms, as well as informative "spotlights"—brief overviews of topics. With a highly accessible structure and useful illustrative features, A Guide to U.S. Environmental Law is a long-overdue synthetic reference on environmental law for students and for those who work in environmental policy or environmental science. Pairing this book with its companion, A Guide to EU Environmental Law, allows for a comparative look at how two of the most important jurisdictions in the world deal with key environmental problems.
