A dazzling novel—set in early 1970's New York and rural India—the story of a turbulent, unlikely romance, a harrowing account of the lasting horrors of World War II, and a searing examination of one man's search for forgiveness and acceptance. “Looks deeply at the echoes and overlaps among art, resistance, love, and history ... an impressive debut.” —Meg Wolitzer, best-selling author of The Female Persuasion New York City, 1972. Jaryk Smith, a survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, and Lucy Gardner, a southerner, newly arrived in the city, are in the first bloom of love when they receive word that Jaryk's oldest friend has died under mysterious circumstances in a rural village in eastern India. Travelling there alone to collect his friend's ashes, Jaryk soon finds himself enmeshed in the chaos of local politics and efforts to stage a play in protest against the government—the same play that he performed as a child in Warsaw as an act of resistance against the Nazis. Torn between the survivor's guilt he has carried for decades and his feelings for Lucy (who, unbeknownst to him, is pregnant with his child), Jaryk must decide how to honor both the past and the present, and how to accept a happiness he is not sure he deserves. An unforgettable love story, a provocative exploration of the role of art in times of political upheaval, and a deeply moving reminder of the power of the past to shape the present, A Play for the End of the World is a remarkable debut from an exciting new voice in fiction.

No parents, no siblings, no teachers. It might sound like a dream to some high schoolers, but for the teenagers of Great Falls, Montana, it is the stuff of reality. They awake one morning to find a Wall of Light encircling their town, and everyone but the student body has vanished. On top of that, the light is moving inward and their town is steadily disappearing. In the face of this mystery, the students band together...and splinter apart. What can they do to stop it? What′s on the other side? Will there still be time for one last dance? An exciting drama/comedy for a large student cast, this play explores mortality, friendship, and the survival of ethics when survival itself is at stake.

Fifteen seconds to the end of the world is a book which collects fifteen short theater plays written by the playwright and drama director Leandro Airaldo, from Argentina. This is what the author says about this edition: "Fifteen seconds to the end of the world is the name of one of the short plays included in this book. It is also an attempt to gather these fifteen short plays under a single heading. What binds them together? Well, their condition of dramatic writing, of course -which I expect will meet the expectations of the future reader-. But also, what binds them together is my eagerness to publish them. The small worlds gathered here are all different, not intended to have any connection in topic or aesthetics, though they are inextricably related by a few matching situations, and they have been written -for the taste of the reader or not- by the same author.Leandro Airaldo graduated as a Playwright at the Metropolitan School of Performing Arts. He also got a postgraduate diploma in playwriting from the School of Arts (University of Buenos Aires). He has obtained several awards for his works: Trinidad Guevara Award to the Best Newcomer in the Male Category for his play Enamorarse es hablar corto y enredado (in English, Falling in love is speaking short and messy). Argentores 2017 Award to the best play for adults (same play). This play achieved the Top Award in the Playwriting category, and received a special mention for Stage Director, in the World Theater Awards Premios Teatro del Mundo granted by Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas from the University of Buenos Aires. His text "Abrakadabra" received a special mention in the IX edition of Germán Rozenmacher Award for New Playwriting. His script "Disparos artificiales" was the winner to the 2nd National Contest of Microfiction 2017 - IX SEMINAR ON MICROFICTION, at the 43rd Book Fair in the City of Buenos Aires. He has coordinated stage writing classes, privately, remotely and in several institutions and cultural entities, among others: Paco Urondo Cultural Center (City of Buenos Aires), Mandala Cultural Center (Buenos Aires), University Cultural Center (UNAM-Mexico City), Hispanoamerican Cultural Center (La Habana, Cuba), Seat UNAM-LA (Los Angeles, United States), INAE (National Institute of Performing Arts - Montevideo, Uruguay).Author's website: www.escriturateatral.com

"This book is a brief history of the end of the world as seen through the eyes of theatre. It examines a wide range of plays, from Euripides and Bhasa, to medieval mystery cycles, through Shakespeare, Pushkin, Ibsen, Chekhov, Brecht, and Samuel Beckett, to Caryl Churchill's Far Away, Tony Kushner's Slavs!, and Anne Washburn's Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play. Through analyzing these alongside contemporary thinkers, this study helps guide and galvanize the reader in grappling with the climate crisis"--
