LOUIS DIENES (1925-2016), poet and photographer, was born in Asheville, North Carolina, and, as a boy, moved with his family to Boston. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and then New York University. In 1943 he began the study which, as he describes in this book, changed his life magnificently: the study of the philosophy Aesthetic Realism with its founder, the poet and critic Eli Siegel. Louis Dienes says that Black & White expresses, “along with my enthusiasm for photography, my gratitude to Eli Siegel for teaching me that poetry arises from the oneness of the permanent opposites in reality as seen by an individual.” Photographs by Louis Dienes have appeared in numerous group shows at the Terrain Gallery. In 1962 he had a one-person exhibition at the Terrain. And, with the Aesthetic Realism Photographers, his work was included in travelling exhibitions throughout the United States. As poet, he is a co-author of the landmark book Personal & Impersonal: Six Aesthetic Realists (Definition Press, 1959). And poems by him have been published in such journals as Black Mountain Review, Georgia Review, Pegasus, Midland Poetry Review and the New York Herald Tribune Poet’s Column. Louis Dienes often spoke about how much he learned as he continued to attend classes in poetry and in the relation of art and life, conducted by the Aesthetic Realism Chairman of Education, Ellen Reiss.

This book is an Inspiration of Life from photographs. As a photographer, I roam around and take pictures of many things. Some of those pictures contain images where I see something in them. As a Poet, this sparks my imagination, my Muse, to poetically interpret that “something” into action. So a poem is born. I write about it, and ask the readers if they see it too That is the basis of this book of Animated Stills. The “stills” part comes from the photograph. The “animated” portion is where poet brings the perceived image to life for the reader. Animated stills are poems where inanimate objects take on human, animal, or spirit forms, traits, or articles. They are derived from Photographs I have taken, that have moved me to write a poem associated with it. I believe that photography and poetry go together well. One form paints a visual picture while the other creates a poetic image. Together, the synergy becomes very powerful. At least, that is what I hope I have achieved here. Here is an excerpt from Poem 26. Firebird, from which the cover photo is taken.

Paper Lips written by Llewellyn Gannon Munzing and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-11 with categories.

As a poet, Llewellyn moves you with her rhythmic verse, honest and raw emotion as well as cunning thought process. She gives every stage of her self reflection a voice as she brings a bold yet romantic tone to her story. As a photographer she brings composition, vision and creativity. She is able to use her abilities in the Adobe realm to create what is only imaginable. "To write Paper Lips, I revisited and re-edited 20 years worth of my poetry. These poems were preserved on whatever I could grab in a moment of inspiration, like napkins, receipts, junk mail and of course endless journals. The poetry is organized to tell the story of my path through love, loss and transformation. It's part of my history and the journey of my heart. A coming of age and beyond. Besides a handful of poems, the majority were written when I was between the ages of 15 and 28 years old. I used the concept of chemistry blended with the seasons to describe the 4 chapters. This is because many of the metaphors used in my poetry equate the human experience with the balance and power of natural elements. It is woven with abstract meanings and thoughts. The photography is a dreamy take on the feelings and context behind the poems. While I was editing my poetry I became really inspired by the imagery going through my head. I wanted to express these new creative thoughts, so I decided to transfer some of them into photographs. I created a series of self portraits, one a week for one full year. I selected the pictures that best represent the narration of this book. There are 35 that appear. The photos were captured with a Canon 5D S R accompanied by a Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. The photos were processed and manipulated in Adobe Photoshop, circa 2017."

An exquisite dialog between images and poetry bringing the reader into the spirit of the rugged and primitive Point Reyes National Seashore. Each poem has the magic and mystery of the photograph, and they show the reader how this photographer, one of the best of his generation, sees. His poems explore the images, transform the images, and keep going deeper to transcendent moments. They allow the reader to see more deeply as they lift them beyond the act of seeing.

Eyes With Winged Thoughts written by Gordon Parks and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-11-01 with Photography categories.

In Eyes with Winged Thoughts, the forty-four photographs and fifty-eight poems, reflecting on his long and extraordinary life, offer a rare glimpse of his thoughts and feelings about everything from romantic love to the Iraq war and the passing of Pope John Paul II. He has done it all. Gordon Parks's life was an astonishing litany of firsts: in the 1940s he was the first African American photographer to work for the Farm Security Administration and for Vogue and Life magazines; in the 1960s he would become the first African American director of a major motion picture. A dominating figure in contemporary American culture, he was an artist of uncompromising vision and creativity. In 2002 Parks received the Jackie Robinson Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame, just a few in a series of honors that began when he received a prestigious Julius Rosenwald Fellowship in 1941 and which now includes an Emmy, a National Medal of the Arts, and over fifty honorary doctorates. In his nineties, he revealed the luminous photographs on display in Eyes with Winged Thoughts and the poems—some meditative and lyrical, some raw with emotion about the war in Iraq and the tragedy of the tsunami—show that he is still a true American Renaissance man.
