I felt a small dream ... I dream the day when we see and care for the whole of our family beyond our constructed borders and barriers ... We have believed for too long that we can only protect ourselves from threat and enmity through armed response ... I wish we could find a way to break our addiction to organized violence ... Many people will not like my calling national defense and military expenditures organized violence. But I have no other words to describe it. For us as a global family, it remains the single greatest investment we make, year in and year out. It not only systematically and systemically prepares us to conduct war efficiently, it diverts our natural resources, national products, and national budgets away from health, education, housing, and agriculture. But our future calls. The well-being of all our grandchildren beckons. What kind of family do we wish to create? I hope for a family that responds and transforms conflict without armed violence ... I dream the day we have the courage to reach out to those we fear, to those we believe wish us harm, even to those who have done us harm. Our challenge is not the number and size of conflicts and threats we face. They are real and they will continue to come. Our challenge lies with our lack of imagination and commitment as a global family to unravel the mystery of how human conflict can be transformed without weapons or violence . . . We must find our way back to humanity, to the wellspring of love that gave us all birth and has the capacity to shift the affairs of enmity ... The yet-to-be-born await the gift of our imagination.-John Paul Lederach, from The Poetic Unfolding of the Human Spirit The Fetzer Institute's project on Deepening the American Dream began in 1999 to explore the relationship between the inner life of spirit and the outer life of service. Through commissioned essays and in dialogue with such writers as Huston Smith, Jacob Needleman, Parker Palmer, Vincent Harding, and others, the project began to sow the seeds of a national conversation. The essays are offered in a series of publications sponsored by The Fetzer Institute in partnership with Jossey-Bass. In an effort to surface the psychological and spiritual roots at the heart of the critical issues that face the world today, we are extending this inquiry by creating a parallel series, Exploring a Global Dream. The essays explore and describe the many ways, as individuals and communities and nations, that we can illuminate and inhabit the essential qualities of the global citizen who seeks to live with the authenticity and grace demanded by our times.

You are much more beautiful than you ever imagined. You are wiser, more compassionate and of greater use than, in many cases, you have been taught to believe. Your dreams matter. Your personal pursuit of happiness matters. You matter. You are an immortal spiritual being. You have a unique, personal magnificence. It is my viewpoint that poetry is a concentrated and direct language with which that special wonder that is you can be addressed and drawn out. This book is about your capacity to love; to be amazed and astonished. It's about the unacknowledged grace that you possess. It concerns your native potential to create. This book was written with the purpose of communicating to the untapped magic inside of you; the special personal artistry that belongs to you. My intention in writing this book was to speak to the miracle that is you. Much Love, Louis "Louis Alan Swartz writes beautiful and meaningful poems about life, death, immortality, spirituality and living ... he often touched me deeply with his sentences. I had tears in my eyes while I was reading... I read these poems all in one sitting, I was completely spellbound and loved every single one of them." -- Suze Lavender, Reviewer ..".when I find poetry that I like, it tends to stay with me. Such is the case with this book. It is filled with moving poetry that you can relate to, and understand, and truly feel. Filled with beautiful imagery and positive energy, these poems paint a picture in the mind's eye ...You will easily find comfort from the poems on these pages." --Angela Gibbs, Reviewer "The reason why I never fully grasped poetry is clear now after reading Louis Alan Swartz--I was reading the wrong kind. This is my kind of poetry...because the poetry is written in a way that I can read it and understand." --Phetra Novak, Reviewer "This may be an anthology of poems--but it is also the manifestation of life--the beautiful journey of life-- from all perspectives and from all angles. It is a saga of that immortal soul." --Jayasre Roy, Reviewer from India

"Jade's poetry is an inspiration not only because of his perseverance and dedication in the face of such great odds but because he writes straight from the heart. Imprisoned in his suit of humanity, he finds hope and strength of the human spirit. He navigates through pain fishing for answers in this wind and liquidates our souls with desire and passion bound by wire explosions. Open these pages and dance with him in a world faded fast." -- R David Stephens.

Speaking Of Violence written by Sara Cobb PhD and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-27 with Psychology categories.

In the context of ongoing or historical violence, people tell stories about what happened, who did what to whom and why. Yet frequently, the speaking of violence reproduces the social fractures and delegitimizes, again, those that struggle against their own marginalization. This speaking of violence deepens conflict and all too often perpetuates cycles of violence. Alternatively, sometimes people do not speak of the violence and it is erased, buried with the bodies that bear it witness. This reduces the capacity of the public to address issues emerging in the aftermath of violence and repression. This book takes the notion of "narrative" as foundational to conflict analysis and resolution. Distinct from conflict theories that rely on accounts of attitudes or perceptions in the heads of individuals, this narrative perspective presumes that meaning, structured and organized as narrative processes, is the location for both analysis of conflict, as well as intervention. But meaning is political, in that not all stories can be told, or the way they are told delegitimizes and erases others. Thus, the critical narrative theory outlined in this book offers a normative approach to narrative assessment and intervention. It provides a way of evaluating narrative and designing "better-formed" stories: "better" in that they are generative of sustainable relations, creating legitimacy for all parties. In so doing, they function aesthetically and ethically to support the emergence of new histories and new futures. Indeed, critical narrative theory offers a new lens for enabling people to speak of violence in ways that undermine the intractability of conflict
