Baron Wormser brings to life the immense force poetry can have in people's lives. In stories funny, tender, sad, and edgy, the narrators register how poetry has changed how they see themselves, how they live, and what they care about. As it bends genres by adapting aspects of fiction, biography, essay and monologue, The Poetry Life shows how poetry can be lightning in the soul. "Baron Wormser has pulled off a miraculous feat--he has written a collection of stories that reveals the absolute necessity of poetry in our lives. His prose style is riveting, and his characters are as diverse as a phone book. Each voice conjures up a passionate portrait of inner life, telling us--through episodes both comic and tragic--that the world of the deceased poet remains eternally relevant to our own." --Clint McCown, author of The Weatherman: A Novel "'Poetry,' Baron Wormser writes, 'is about generosity.' So too are these ten stories you hold in your hands. They are about generosity. And mystery. And loneliness. And life. They are about how poetry helps us 'stay in our skins.' You will fall in love with these stories and with the ten poets who appear in them. What Baron Wormser says about William Carlos Williams, I say about him here, 'He nailed it.'" --Ann Hood, author of The Knitting Circle: A Novel "A book of stories not about poets but driven by the presence of poetry and the shadows of poets: madness undoubtedly. But the best kind of madness! With this book, Baron Wormser invites us to reconsider the connection between poetry and our lives, to remember that we really do live hungry for inner vision, for small insights that can save us from the slag heap of goofdom and pointlessness. It's a wonderful book. It's the kind of stuff that makes you want to stay in the world. " --Tim Seibles, author of Buffalo Head Solos

Poetry Will Save Your Life written by Jill Bialosky and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-15 with Poetry categories.

From a critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling author and poet comes “a delightfully hybrid book: part anthology, part critical study, part autobiography” (Chicago Tribune) that is organized around fifty-one remarkable poems by poets such as Robert Frost, Emily Dickinson, Wallace Stevens, and Sylvia Plath. For Jill Bialosky, certain poems stand out like signposts at pivotal moments in a life: the death of a father, adolescence, first love, leaving home, the suicide of a sister, marriage, the birth of a child, the day in New York City the Twin Towers fell. As Bialosky narrates these moments, she illuminates the ways in which particular poems offered insight, compassion, and connection, and shows how poetry can be a blueprint for living. In Poetry Will Save Your Life, Bialosky recalls when she encountered each formative poem, and how its importance and meaning evolved over time, allowing new insights and perceptions to emerge. While Bialosky’s personal stories animate each poem, they touch on many universal experiences, from the awkwardness of girlhood, to crises of faith and identity, from braving a new life in a foreign city to enduring the loss of a loved one, from becoming a parent to growing creatively as a poet and artist. Each moment and poem illustrate “not only how to read poetry, but also how to love poetry” (Christian Science Monitor). “An emotional, sometimes-wrenching account of how lines of poetry can be lifelines” (Kirkus Reviews), Poetry Will Save Your Life is an engaging and entirely original examination of a life while celebrating the enduring value of poetry, not as a purely cerebral activity, but as a means of conveying personal experience and as a source of comfort and intimacy. In doing so the book brilliantly illustrates the ways in which poetry can be an integral part of life itself and can, in fact, save your life.

The Poetry of Life is a chronicle of the people, love, and issues in life that affect all of us. Though these poems reflect my personal experiences, the general meanings are universal and can be personalized to your own situation. What is unique about this poetry book is that I share with you the reasons I wrote each poem and what it has meant to me. I feel each of us can relate to different poems and that it brings us together; and I wanted others to know that they are not alone in what they're feeling. I hope you enjoy my poems and the stories that accompany them, and feel that connection in your life.

A Life In Rhyme written by P. C. Dussman and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-17 with Poetry categories.

The poetry, thoughts, and musings, in this book, A Life In Rhyme, is not classical, traditional or modern day poetry, but rather the journey of a young girl that can be understood by the poetry she wrote. This is not just a poetry book, but also a notebook with places to post your own thoughts about your feelings. This poet was a sensitive child who grew up in an emotionally deprived environment, always seeking release from sadness, fear, and confusion. Finding no refuge, she wrote poetry in short and simple rhyme. The poems are classified according to her age when she wrote to express and relieve her pain. The cycles of her poetry would ebb and flow due to everyday life responsibilities. Her determination to find love, feel secure and safe, resulted in her insatiable need to have complete control over everything in her life, which only succeeded in bringing about more worry, anxiety, self-criticism and low self-esteem. She was at the mercy of everyone when seeking reassurance and affirmation, while at the same time, whipping herself into being perfect in everything she did for fear of making a mistake. When there is deprivation of love and security early in a child's life, the heart never fully heals from the scars that such deprivation produced, thus, for some, penning the words to paper is a way to purge the pain. No, this poetry book is not a book of scholarly poetry, but rather the written story of someone using the pen to scribe pain and heartbreak that cannot be assuage by any other means. Poetry is more than rhyme on paper. It tells the story of one's feelings about their life, their environment, their culture and whether their life's journey was easy or difficult. What was this poet's life like? Was it similar to your life and how you felt during difficult times? A lot of poetry was written in past centuries by scholarly men and some were Poet Laureates. A lot of their poetry was deeply philosophical, some sad, some about war, and some about everyday life. Unfortunately, women did not have as much honored recognition back then as the men did, except for a few notables, like Elizabeth Barrett Browning who will be forever remembered for her classic poem, How Do I love Thee... Past poets may help us better understand our own lives and realize that throughout the ages much has not changed regarding human suffering. We are in good company and not alone in our pain or grief after reading and connecting with some of the past Poet Laureates. During the 1800's poetry appeared to be the solace for a broken heart, pain and suffering. Poems can put into words what we are feeling. At the present time in this world there is a lot of pain and suffering. How does one cope? Can poetry help? Put this book on your bedside table within easy reach when at night you are feeling lonely or needing to reach out. This book of poems and the old Poet Laureates might reach back to comfort you.

In my poem 'Life's Vagaries' I describe observations of a tattooed female, shuffling along in the market place with her boyfriend and the sign on a nearby church inviting people to 'light candles'. My emotional response is to juxtapose the meaning of love with religion. This book of poems expresses a wide range of experiences as I create responses to major themes in life such as birth, love and death. Covering over seventy years, the poems show how an early religious upbringing can leave its almost 'Freudian' imprint. This can be seen in 'Lessons of War' one of my early memories. My interest in philosophy is demonstrated in the poem 'Stages of Life in a Dressing Gown' where I reach a mid-life crisis and almost press the self destruct button...but thankfully recover to continue the journey. Hope you will join the journey with me and see life from a different perspective.
