The Instant New York Times Bestseller | With a New Preface from Nate Silver for 2025 “Engaging and entertaining… a glimpse of the economy of the future.” —Tim Wu, New York Times Book Review From the New York Times bestselling author of The Signal and the Noise, the definitive guide to our era of risk—and the players raising the stakes In a world wired for chaos, these players are rewriting the rules. High-stakes, high-IQ, and often high on their own mythologies, they are driving the next era of finance, tech, and politics. But what happens when their bets go too far? Nate Silver’s On The Edge reveals the hidden world of the River. It is the domain of gamblers and like-minded folks who move markets and change the fabric of society: poker legends, hedge fund titans, crypto speculators, and even those willing to bet the world’s future on AI. They are obsessives with a deep hunger for volatility and an unrelenting desire to exploit every edge over the rest of us. Silver embeds with them, competing in the World Series of Poker, visiting Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX compound, and attending wild Miami yacht parties at the height of the crypto bubble. On the Edge is a front-row seat to a new world order built on risk, math, and ambition—a gripping ride through the minds shaping your future, whether you like it or not.

Much like a pilot need not know the pure physics behind his flight, a skilled poker player need not know the pure mathematics behind winning poker play. Too often have poker books taken a purely theoretical approach to poker instruction. This book is the only poker book available that caters specifically to online sit'n'go (SNG) single'table low'limit Texas Hold'em tournaments. More importantly, it is the only poker book that guides the reader on a progressive path upward through the various limits, with only the information necessary to win with any bankroll or skill level to beat that specific low limit. Presented in a series of steps, the book provides guidelines that help tell the reader when to move up to a higher limit. SNG's have very predictable durations (40'60 minutes) so the reader could effectively set aside blocks of time to play. Unlike other games, the book contends that SNG's have very predictable win/loss rates, can be defeated systematically, and offer an innate system of progression. That is, the various buy'in amounts can be viewed as a climbable ladder that helps gauge success. As with any gambling, winning is not a sure thing. But this book gives you the tools you need to win.

The American Nightmare: Don DeLillo's Falling Man and Cormac McCarthy's The Road presents an extensive analysis of two novels by the two most prominent contemporary American writers. The book searches into the stylistic and linguistic complexities of those two post-9/11 novels and explores the ways in which they respond to the public discourse produced in the aftermath of the event. Szalan's reading of the texts offer valuable insights into the inscription of ideology in literary works which simultaneously reinstate and resist its hegemony.

In Racialized Media, Matthew W. Hughey, Emma González-Lesser, and the contributors to this important new collection of original essays provide a blueprint to this new, ever-changing media landscape. With sweeping breadth, contributors examine a number of different mediums, including film, television, books, newspapers, social media, video games, and comics. Focusing on producers, gatekeepers, and consumers of media, this book offers an inside look at our media-saturated world, and the impact it has on our understanding of race, ethnicity, and more.
