The University And Its Boundaries written by Eliel Cohen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-26 with Education categories.
Grounded in key sociological theory on the concepts of boundaries, power and control, this text addresses the question of whether the university is thriving or merely surviving. Using a sociological lens to consider how institutions must engage in boundary transactions in order to maintain their unique position and identity, this book explores how these transactions also have the potential to undermine academic boundaries. Including a detailed analysis of the activities, organisation and outputs of academic research in the context of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) departments of UK universities, the arguments presented have implications for universities and their stakeholders not only in the United Kingdom, but wherever universities face challenges of purpose and identity, particularly where these are shaped by neoliberal modes of governance and management. Insights into how universities must balance the ideas of themselves as teaching institutions, research institutions and their broader societal importance and impact make this important reading for higher education scholars and postgraduate students, sociological theorists and all those interested in the future of the university.

Why have modern nationalists built religious identity as the foundational signifier of nationality in an increasingly secular world? The cases of 20th century Ireland and Turkey reveal the answer: religious nationalism is not a knee-jerk reaction to secular modernization, but a tool that forges new and independent national identities.

This book provides a comprehensive review and classification for dual active bridge DC-DC converters. Based on the unified topology architecture of the dual active bridge DC-DC converters, the topologies derivation law is studied and new converter topologies are deducted correspondingly. Several novel converters are provided to illustrate different topology modification methods, including modified IO types, modified active bridges, modified transformers, adding auxiliary high-frequency networks, and modular topology structure. Meanwhile, the control optimization and the parameter design of the novel converters are also investigated.

Power Based Study Of Boundary Layer Ingestion For Aircraft Application written by Peijian Lv and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book presents research on Boundary Layer Ingestion (BLI). BLI is an aircraft-engine integration technique that aims at integrating the aircraft and the propulsion system such that the overall aircraft fuel consumption can be reduced. In this research, theoretical analysis suggests that the minimization of total power consumption should be used as a design criterion for aircraft utilizing BLI rather than focusing on the minimization of drag. Numerical simulations are performed, and the simulation results are processed using the PBM to support the theoretical analysis. Furthermore, an experimental study is carried out with a focus on the power conversion processes involved for a propulsor operating in the wake. Stereoscopic PIV is employed in order to visualize the flow and understand the physics. The so-called Power-based Method is used to quantify the power conversion mechanisms. The results prove that the dominant mechanism responsible for the efficiency enhancement is due to the utilization of body wake energy by the wake ingesting propeller. In short, the importance of wake energy flow rate in understanding the BLI phenomenon is highlighted. This book will be useful for researchers in the field of aircraft propulsion, aircraft aerodynamics, and airframe propulsion integration.

Pushing Boundaries In Southwestern Archaeology written by Stephen E. Nash and has been published by University Press of Colorado this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-07 with Social Science categories.
Pushing Boundaries in Southwestern Archaeology draws together the proceedings from the sixteenth biennial Southwest Symposium. In exploring the conference theme, contributors consider topics ranging from the resuscitation of archaeomagnetic dating to the issue of Athapaskan origins, from collections-based studies of social identity, foodways, and obsidian trade to the origins of a rock art tradition and the challenges of a deeply buried archaeological record. The first of the volume’s four sections examines the status, history, and prospects of Bears Ears National Monument, the broader regulatory and political boundaries that complicate the nature and integrity of the archaeological record, and the cultural contexts and legal stakes of archaeological inquiry. The second section focuses on chronological “big data” in the context of pre-Columbian history and the potential and limits of what can be empirically derived from chronometric analysis of the past. The chapters in the third section advocate for advancing collections-based research, focusing on the vast and often untapped research potential of archives, previously excavated museum collections, and legacy data. The final section examines the permeable boundaries involved in Plains-Pueblo interactions, obvious in the archaeological record but long in need of analysis, interpretation, and explanation.
