The Power to Assume Form: Cornelius Castoriadis and Regulative Regimes of Historicity examines the major contribution of Cornelius Castoriadis’s work, which elucidated the role of the social imaginary within human societies. What is significant, Sean McMorrow argues, is that Castoriadis’s work presents a unique perspective on the regimes of historicity; modes of instituting power that establish the legitimacy of institutional order in relation to the extensive social imaginary articulations of the world. The author assesses Castoriadis’s theorization of the radically creative capacity of the social imaginary and suggests that there remains a tendency to present an overly dichotomous view of autonomous and heteronomous modes of institution. McMorrow assesses how adherence to this inclination hinders the development of further insights into the creative capacities of social imaginary, while also imposing limits on Castoriadis’s own assessment of the ‘partially’ autonomous situation of modern societies. The author suggests that one way forward is to consider the role of an implicit dimension of instituting power, involved in the reproduction of dominant social imaginary articulations of the world, and which also shape the regulation of historicity more generally. The main purpose of this book is to develop the critical depth of Castoriadis’s work, showing how it remains an insightful framework to analyze the significance of the deepening depoliticization of contemporary ‘liberal-democratic’ regimes and the ‘partially’ autonomous dynamics that underlie their shift toward increasingly authoritarian modes of governance.

The Essays Of Erich Neumann Volume 3 written by Erich Neumann and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-14 with Psychology categories.
The Israeli analytical psychologist Erich Neumann, whom C. G. Jung regarded as one of his most gifted students, devoted much of his later writing to the theme of creativity. This is the third volume of Neumann's essays on that subject. Neumann found his examples not only in the work of writers and artists--William Blake, Goethe, Rilke, Kafka, Klee, Chagall, Picasso, Trakl--but as well in that of physicists, biologists, psychiatrists, and philosophers. Confronting the problem of portraying men and women as creative beings, Neumann expanded the concepts of Jungian psychology with a more comprehensive definition of the archetype and a new concept--"unitary reality." Whether or not humanity can be restored to health from its present situation as a self-endangered species depends, according to Neumann, on whether we can experience ourselves as truly creative, in touch with our own being and the world's being. The six essays comprising this volume--"The Psyche and the Transformation of the Reality Planes," "The Experience of the Unitary Reality," "Creative Man and the `Great Experience,'" "Man and Meaning," "Peace as the Symbol of Life," and "The Psyche as the Place of Creation"--all originated as lectures at the Eranos Conferences in the years 1952 to 1960. Originally published in 1989. In "The Universe a Vast Electric Organism," Geo. W. Warder presents a provocative exploration of the interconnectedness of all matter and energy in the cosmos. Synthesizing elements of metaphysics, natural philosophy, and early scientific thought, Warder employs a distinctive literary style that blends lyrical prose with rigorous argumentation. The work emerges from the milieu of late 19th-century scientific inquiry, reflecting a time when the boundaries between science and spirituality were malleable, inviting readers to contemplate the universe as an electric, living entity that pulsates with resonance and vibrational energy. Geo. W. Warder was a visionary thinker whose intellectual pursuits were deeply rooted in the desire to reconcile scientific discoveries with philosophical and esoteric principles. His background as a scholar in both the physical sciences and the humanities allowed him to traverse complex ideas with ease, leading him to craft this foundational text. Warder's unique perspective on the implications of electricity and energy in nature reveals the influences of contemporaries like Nikola Tesla and Ralph Waldo Emerson, showcasing his quest to awaken a holistic understanding of existence. This compelling treatise is recommended for readers intrigued by the intersections of science, philosophy, and spirituality. Warder's illuminating insights challenge traditional paradigms, inviting an appreciation of the universe as a symbiotic and interconnected organism. Those with a passion for speculative thought and a yearning to delve deeper into the mysteries of existence will find Warder's work both enriching and transformative.

Reading the Written Image is a study of the imagination as it is prompted by the verbal cues of literature. Since every literary image is also a mental image, a representation of an absent entity, Collins contends that imagination is a poiesis, a making-up, an act of play for both author and reader. The "willing suspension of disbelief," which Coleridge said "constitutes poetic faith," therefore empowers and directs the reader to construct an imagined world in which particular hypotheses are proposed and demonstrated. Although the imagination as a central concept in poetics emerges into critical debate only in the eighteenth century, it has been a crucial issue for over two millennia in religious, philosophical, and political discourse. The two recognized alternative methodologies in the study of literature, the poetic and the hermeneutic, are opposed on the issue of the written image: poets and readers feel free to imagine, while hermeneuts feel obliged to specify the meanings of images and, failing that, to minimize the importance of imagery. Recognizing this problem, Collins proposes that reading written texts be regarded as a performance, a unique kind of play that transposes what had once been an oral-dramatic situation onto an inner, imaginary stage. He applies models drawn from the psychology of play to support his theory that reader response is essentially a poietic response to a rule-governed set of ludic cues.

The Ubiquitous Siva written by John Nemec and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-22 with Philosophy categories.
John Nemec examines the beginnings of the non-dual tantric philosophy of the famed Pratyabhijna or "Recognition [of God]" School of tenth-century Kashmir, the tradition most closely associated with Kashmiri Shaivism. In doing so it offers, for the very first time, a critical edition and annotated translation of a large portion of the first Pratyabhijna text ever composed, the Sivadrsti of Somananda. In an extended introduction, Nemec argues that the author presents a unique form of non-dualism, a strict pantheism that declares all beings and entities found in the universe to be fully identical with the active and willful god Siva. This view stands in contrast to the philosophically more flexible panentheism of both his disciple and commentator, Utpaladeva, and the very few other Saiva tantric works that were extant in the author's day. Nemec also argues that the text was written for the author's fellow tantric initiates, not for a wider audience. This can be adduced from the structure of the work, the opponents the author addresses, and various other editorial strategies. Even the author's famous and vociferous arguments against the non-tantric Hindu grammarians may be shown to have been ultimately directed at an opposing Hindu tantric school that subscribed to many of the grammarians' philosophical views. Included in the volume is a critical edition and annotated translation of the first three (of seven) chapters of the text, along with the corresponding chapters of the commentary. These are the chapters in which Somananda formulates his arguments against opposing tantric authors and schools of thought. None of the materials made available in the present volume has ever been translated into English, apart from a brief rendering of the first chapter that was published without the commentary in 1957. None of the commentary has previously been translated into any language at all.
