The past 15 years of leadership research have taught us a valuable lesson: There is more than one way to be a successful leader. The Charismatic, Ideological, and Pragmatic (CIP) approach to leadership showcases three unique yet equally viable pathways to leading and influencing others. This book reviews the history of the CIP model of leadership and summarizes the empirical findings supporting the framework. Emerging areas of leadership research on the CIP model are explored, including: followership, shared leadership, measurement, and gender. Contributions from a range of international academics provide readers with insight into the foundation of the CIP theory of leadership and into where the future of leadership perspectives are headed. It includes a chapter for practitioners seeking to understand the framework through an applied lens and offers evidence for a new scale designed to quantify a leader’s CIP profile. Finally, a revised theoretical framework, incorporating key findings to expand the model to meet the diverse needs of future researchers and leaders is offered. This thought-provoking volume will be essential reading for all scholars, researchers and students interested in the charismatic, ideological, and pragmatic approach to leadership, as well as professionals considering the introduction of a new leadership model.

The charismatic, ideological, and pragmatic (CIP) theory of leadership has emerged as a novel framework for thinking about the varying ways leaders can influence followers. The theory is based on the principle of equifinality, or the notion that there are multiple pathways to the same outcome. Researchers of the CIP theory have proposed that leaders are effective by engaging in one, or a mix of, three leader pathways: the charismatic approach focused on an emotionally evocative vision, an ideological approach focused on core beliefs and values, or a pragmatic approach focused on an appeal of rationality and problem solving. Formation of pathways and unique follower responses are described. The more than 15 years of empirical work investigating the theory are summarized, and the theory is compared and contrasted to other commonly studied and popular frameworks of leadership. Strengths, weaknesses, and avenues for future investigation of the CIP theory are discussed.

Thousands of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are forsaking education in secondary mainstream schools across Australia. This book places a sociological and lived experience phenomenological lens on public policy that is working against school inclusion, learning engagement and post-school opportunity. The school case studies provided here highlight the damage done and the opportunity for refreshed policy approaches to address this malaise. Across the educational landscape, there are a number of fine examples of schools that are choosing to do schooling 'against the grain' of unhelpful regulatory policy that works to exclude many from their educational entitlement. These schools and their practices are examined in this book and are presented as examples for policy learning. If education systems learn to embrace an ongoing culture of research and inquiry, where the evidence-based and contextual learning experiences of students, teachers and Principals are equally valued and heard in the policy realm, the phenomenon of early school leaving can begin to turn around. This work calls upon Principals in the first instance to become more radical and pragmatic in their leadership of schools, collectively working with courage to ensure that the experience of schooling is personalised to the learning needs and career aspirations of all young people.

In today's ever-evolving corporate maze, "Pragmatic People Leadership" serves as a practial compass for managers looking to navigate with acumen and wit. This book breaks away from the tried, clichéd, and often regurgitated advice that crowds the leadership space. Instead, it champions a clear-eyed, slightly sardonic approach to the modern challenges of leading teams and organizations. Balancing wisdom with wit, this guide doesn't just preach the 'whats' and 'whys'; it delves deep into the 'hows' of leadership. From the undeniable necessity of setting clear expectations and active listening to the slightly touchy subjects of delegation and, of course, the ever-elusive work-life balance, every chapter is a breath of fresh air. It's like having a heart-to-heart with a seasoned leader who's seen it all, yet still manages to laugh about their own missteps. In essence, "Pragmatic Leadership" is the leadership book for those who thought they'd read them all. It's an invitation to lead with both clarity and a sense of humor, proving that effectiveness in leadership doesn't require a stern face, but rather a clear head and, occasionally, a raised eyebrow. Welcome to management made pragmatic.

There are still companies that believe that they can achieve the best results through high performance in business alone, instead of applying the human factor. These companies operate under stress and anxiety. In the end, the best employees leave the company first. But the human factor without high performance does not work either. Despite the importance of a good atmosphere in a company, it is not a sufficient guarantee for lasting quality performances. In the long run, a company at the highest performance level will only work when high performance AND the human factor characterize the leader.
