Kenotic Politics written by Mark E. Moore and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-04 with Religion categories.

How can one reconcile the political nature of Jesus with his disinclination to power? Moore's argument comes in three stages. Part one answers the question 'Was Jesus Political?' by examining Jesus' words and actions that have political import. Part two addresses the issue 'How was Jesus Political?' It concentrates on Mark 10:32-45 as a real articulation of Jesus' political praxis that is consistent throughout Jesus' ministry and teaching. Part three, 'Why did Jesus not openly announce his political role?' examines Jesus' treatment of the Jewish kings of the past, particularly why Jesus, 'meek and mild,' could claim to surpass them in honor. It is argued that Jesus' disinclination to associate himself with other rulers is not a rejection of a political role. Rather, he lived so consistently with his political praxis of self-abnegation that these other rulers were not appropriate models for Jesus to follow. Furthermore, the very claim to such titles was antithetical to his political praxis which relinquished all aggrandizement to God, who alone could exalt, abase, judge, and rule.

The kingdom of God is a very large biblical category indeed. Accordingly, a comprehensive understanding of the kingdom would illuminate many aspects of theology. With this in mind, Bruce Waltke, Robert Yarbrough, Gerald Bray, Clinton Arnold, Gregg Allison, Stephen Nichols, and Anthony Bradley have collaborated to articulate a full view of the kingdom of God across multiple disciplines. One of the most important books on the kingdom since G. E. Ladd, this volume offers a robust theology and is corroborated by the very series in which it stands. Fourth in the noted Theology in Community series, The Kingdom of God establishes the significance of the kingdom from the perspectives of biblical theology, systematic theology, history, pastoral application, missiology, and cultural analysis. Part of the Theology in Community series.

A Study Guide On The Reign Of God written by Antonio González and has been published by Convivium Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Christianity categories.

Inspired by Gods Reign and the End of Empires (by Antonio Gonzalez ,Convivium Press 2012) and edited by Joseph V. Owens SJ, this guide presents a challenging social theology in accessible language. It is especially suited for use in Bible study groups, small parish communities, and youth groups. Discussion questions for each unit are included in an appendix. Gonzalez offers a fresh biblical theology for Christians who are struggling to understand how to live their faith in today s swiftly changing, globalized world. It shows how the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, tells a story of Gods desire to liberate people from the political, economic, and social powers that subjugate them. The first ten units of the guide, Messianic Longing, introduce the reader to the radicality of the Bibles understanding of human nature, grace, and sin; it then summarizes the powerful message of the Jewish scriptures in terms of election, exodus, and the reign of God. The second ten units, Messianic Reality, present the heart of Jesus message: the reign of the poor, the community of disciples, the conflict with the powerful, and the meaning of the cross. The final ten units, Messianic Community, recount the outpouring of the Spirit of the risen Jesus in the early Christian communities, where social relations were dramatically transformed, setting an example for how Christians should live today.

God S Reign And The End Of Empires written by Antonio González and has been published by Kyrios this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Religion categories.

In this profound and enlightening book, theologian Antonio Gonzalez analyzes the nature of global empires since the time of Babylon. His premise is that empires maintain power by any means necessary, including exploitation, injustice and idolatry. It is in this context of empire, specifically the Roman empire, that Jesus proclaimed the reign of God as opposed to the reign of Caesar. Within God s reign, God alone rules, with mercy, love, justice, and special concern for the oppressed. Imbued with this faith, a new community of believers developed, particularly among the poor, who lived what Jesus proclaimed, sharing resources and practicing equality and forgiveness rather than retribution. Leaning into the Future seeks to explore what it may mean to believe in the Kingship of God and wait for his Kingdom by considering the fundamental role the Kingdom of God plays in the theology of Jÿrgen Moltmann and in the book of Revelation. Part one is devoted to how Moltmann understands The Kingdom of God as the fundamental symbol of hope for humanity, and how he sees the presence of God's reign and kingdom in history as hidden and paradoxical. Part two turns to the way the Book of Revelation uses royal and other political language in its portrait of the future and God's presence in history. In this second part, the book also seeks to explore how Moltmann and the Apocalypse may mutually inform each other, how Moltmann may help us read this biblical book today, and how it in turn may overcome some of the weaknesses in Moltmann's proposal.

Eschatological Hermeneutics written by Daniel Minch and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-20 with Religion categories.

Eschatology is the foundation for exploring Edward Schillebeeckx's work. Daniel Minch provides an in-depth analysis of his hermeneutical theology, informed by access to original texts previously unavailable in English. He examines the historical and doctrinal origins of his methodology, hermeneutics as human experience, and the continuing relevance of the approach for today's socio-economic context. Today, economics drives our predictions for the future. But Minch shows that Schillebeeckx's work reminds us of a 'new image of humanity', as well as a 'new image of God', part of the Catholic shift to a future-oriented 'theology of hope' that took place after the Second Vatican Council. These resist both economic logic and fundamentalist views of God and history that have become pervasive in popular notions of Christianity.
