Today People’s Republic of China is emerging as one of the major global economies. But a lot of negotiations between German and Chinese businessmen have failed in China because German entrepreneurs have not been sufficiently prepared for the different cultural peculiarities of negotiations with Chinese business partners. This dissertation will analyse the cultural peculiarities of negotiations with Chinese business partners. Different theories about culture, communication and negotiations and their interactions are examined. The researcher will analyse differences between the German and Chinese business culture including the values influencing the German and Chinese business behaviour and communication style. A comparison of the German culture and negotiation skills with the Chinese culture and negotiation skills will be drawn. Prerequisites to commitment in China will be investigated and the Chinese framework of communication will be identified. Furthermore the Chinese bargaining and negotiation tactics as well as the purpose and format of Chinese negotiations will be discovered and the importance of “guanxi” and “mianxi” and their effects on business behaviour will be identified. The researcher will also advance the hypothesis that China has faced and will face the influence of materialism as a force undermining traditional values. To prove this hypothesis, she will analyse potential factors and forces that influence Chinese culture and with it the negotiations with Chinese business partners.

In order to enter a new market, socio-cultural conditions always have to be taken into consideration. Chinese particularities in the context of communication, relationships or Guanxi and social reputation were observed in this work. Subsequently, cultural differences between China and Germany were compared according to Hofstede’s cultural dimensions Power Distance, Individualism vs. Collectivism, Masculinity vs. Femininity, Uncertainty Avoidance and Long-Term vs. Short-Term Orientation. As shown in the course of this work, there are multiple differences in every dimension between these two cultures. In order to perform business in China, German companies have to adapt to the given circumstances. Only with careful handling of the cultural differences, economic success can be achieved.

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: This seminar paper deals with Sweden and Germany as negotiation partners from a German perspective. Although one would assume quite various similarities between these countries due to geographical proximity and same origin of language, they are indeed quite different – an issue also investigated by Eoro Vaara. The aim of this paper is to show that even slight or subtle differences in cultural patterns should be considered. Therefore only who can communicate without cultural misunderstandings can experience successful cross-cultural negotiations. Sweden has been chosen since there is a lot of research about cultural differences between American, Asian and Arab countries, but hardly any regarding inter-European. Another reason is also because of personal experiences in Sweden and with Swedish friends. It was challenging to investigate in a country, which does not seem to be culturally much apart from Germany. After a short introduction, the second chapter gives the reader a definition for culture and an overview of Hofstede’s model of dimensions. This chapter also presents the different kind of cultures from a German and Swedish perspective. Therefore the third chapter deals with negotiations between Germans and Swedes while doing business. This paper ends with the chapter “conclusion”.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, grade: 2,6, University of Applied Sciences Koblenz (Wirtschaft), language: English, abstract: This paper tries to determine the main differences between Germany and Singapore and to answer the question what Germany can learn from Singaporean business culture. Since the world is becoming more and more multicultural, international and connected, cultures and their components change over time. Modern companies of today, who are looking to do business in Europe and Asia are most successful when building up regional headquarters rather than focus on a specific market with country-specific headquarters. In the past, Singapore became the predominant location for regional headquarters in Asia (especially South-East Asia) for various reasons. The former British colony provides all necessary aspects to attract foreign direct investments in conjunction with an English speaking environment. As of today Singapore became one of best and easiest countries to do business with in conjunction with a stable political environment. The counterpart in Europe for Singapore is the export-oriented Germany. After its reunification in 1990, Germany became the strongest economic power in Europe and one of the strongest worldwide. With the focus on export to all continents, it is necessary to build up headquarters around the world to maximize the effectiveness. Today, about 1400 German firms are located in Singapore, which makes them an important partner. Since multinational companies become bigger and more involved in different sectors, success in business will inevitably demand a change of corporate and business culture. Therefore it is important to understand foreign cultures and business cultures to better adapt to the foreign culture. Additionally improvements of other business cultures can be used and implemented into the own business culture.

The significance of the research on the management of marketing activities, which is necessary not only for profit, but also for being competitive in the market, is determined. The necessity of using an integrated marketing approach is substantiated. The expediency of using modern methods of product promotion has been determined The scientific basis of managing the economic development of agribusiness entities is revealed in the works of Ukrainian economists - V. Andriychuk, I. Balaniuk, I. Gryshova, G. Kaletnik, M. Malik, P. Sabluk, A. Tretyak, O. Shpykulyak and other scientists. Theoretical issues of strategic management are highlighted in the scientific works of M. Albert, O. Amosov, I. Ansoff, Y. Zavadskyi, M. Meskon, G. Mintzberg, H. Mostovoi, G. Odintsova, M. Porter, A. Thompson, A. Fayol and other domestic and foreign authors. The theoretical principles of marketing activity management became the object of research by H. Armstrong, L. Balabanova, O. Varchenko, A. Theoretical studies and practical recommendations of the mentioned scientists formed the general methodical basis of marketing management of agricultural enterprises. However, research on the management of marketing activities of agribusiness subjects is not sufficiently systematic and complete. To solve these tasks, it is necessary to develop measures to promote the sale of products through the formation of a sales support system and the development of cooperation with the EU. In these conditions, the role of marketing activity of agricultural enterprises increases and the need to develop recommendations for the organization and development of marketing tools in agro-industrial production at the level of enterprises and the region, which determines the relevance of this scientific research. The results of the research presented in the monograph were carried out as part of the initiative theme of the Department of Agrarian Management and Marketing of Vinnytsia National Agrarian University "Development of the concept of management of marketing activity of agricultural enterprises" state registration number: 0122U002111. for 2022-2024

Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: Economic relations between China and Germany have a long historical tradition. However, during the last two decades trade has increased significantly. From a German point of view high potential growth opportunities and untapped market niches attracted companies to enter the Chinese market. Nevertheless, those entries did not occur without difficulties for business leaders and their workforce due to cultural differences and thus, diverging styles of doing business. As a result, channelling knowledge of the two leadership cultures has become a relevant field to discover helpful aspects of interaction when managing Chinese operations or negotiations as well as cross-border mergers, acquisitions and alliances in China. Against this background, this paper aims for a description of both Chinese and German business culture with a specific focus on leadership in order to improve current understanding of effective leadership in China. In this context, this paper builds on findings of the GLOBE study, which serves as the main scientific basis. First, it will be reasoned why GLOBE study establishes a reasonable fundament for the subject at hand. Second, German and Chinese business and leadership culture will be presented. Third, based on this description a comparison will be drawn in order to reveal applied learning potentials, which will be the fourth part of this paper preceding the conclusion.
