"I Am The Prettiest Flower That Grows" Is a delightful children's picture book that takes readers on a journey to a flower garden where the flowers argue over who is the prettiest. The argument continues for hours, disturbing a little green frog in a nearby pond. The frog intervenes and directs the flowers to look at their reflections in the pond. The flowers are amazed by the sight of their unique characteristics and colors and realize that True beauty is not found in a single flower; it lies in the splendor of the garden, where diverse colors, shapes, and sizes grow, bloom, and thrive together, creating a magnificent bouquet.

Rare indeed is the artist who is feted by royalty, and at the same time sought after by naturalists and scientists as an active collaborator. Such a painter was Pierre Joseph Redoute, born in 1759 on the Franco-Belgian border. Before Redoute was thirty his fame was established in Paris, where he was to become as renowned as his great neo-classic contemporary, Jacques-Louis David - and highly appreciated and honoured up to the year of his death, 1840. Even as Redoute collaborated with leading naturalists on several books and was rewarded with the title of Dessinateur to the Institut de France, he continued to specialize in roses, lilies, a nd lilacs. Redoute created this collection of masterpieces in 1833 as the pinnacle of his craft. In this lavish work - many of the plates were retouched by hand - he applied every technique and skill he had perfected, bringing art and nature into close harmony. A professional of self-imposed exacting standards, Redoute never abandoned the search for beauty and accuracy - as this magnificently produced volume shows so well. Although sales of his works in his lifetime never enabled him to balance his financial problems, connoisseurs of his turbulent times acclaimed him the Raphael of Flowers, the Rembrandt of Roses.

The beauty of flowers has inspired artists, designers, poets, and myriad other creators for centuries: the Dutch masters of the 1600s and impressionist painters from Manet to Van Gogh, photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, botanical illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret, even the inimitable Andy Warhol. Flowers: Art & Bouquets showcases a glorious profusion of floral images and interpretations across a spectrum of artistic media and time periods. Design writer Sixtine Dubly chronicles the evolution of floral design in this remarkable compendium, which also features stunning work by more than forty contemporary floral artists in London, Paris, and New York, from minimalist to elaborate. This treasury of gorgeous imagery blooms in resplendent color before the reader’s eyes.
