Bandit Roads written by Richard Grant and has been published by Abacus this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-10-01 with Travel categories.

There are many ways to die in the Sierra Madre, a notorious nine-hundred-mile mountain range in northern Mexico where AK-47s are fetish objects, the law is almost non-existent and power lies in the hands of brutal drug mafias. Thousands of tons of opium and marijuana are produced there every year. Richard Grant thought it would be a good idea to travel the length of the Sierra Madre and write a book about it. He was warned before he left that he would be killed. But driven by what he calls 'an unfortunate fascination' for this mysterious region, Grant sets off anyway. In a remarkable piece of investigative writing, he evokes a sinister, surreal landscape of lonely mesas, canyons sometimes deeper than the Grand Canyon, hostile villages and an outlaw culture where homicide is the most common cause of death and grandmothers sell cocaine. Finally his luck runs out and he finds himself fleeing for his life, pursued by men who would murder a stranger in their territory 'to please the trigger finger'.

Tenement Kid written by Bobby Gillespie and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-14 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Tenement Kid is Bobby Gillespie's story up to the recording and release of the album that has been credited with 'starting the 90's', Screamadelica. Born into a working class Glaswegian family in the summer of 1961, Bobby's memoirs begin in the district of Springburn, soon to be evacuated in Edward Heath's brutal slum clearances. Leaving school at 16 and going to work as a printers' apprentice, Bobby's rock n roll epiphany arrives like a bolt of lightning shining from Phil Lynott's mirrored pickguard at his first gig at the Apollo in Glasgow. Filled with 'the holy spirit of rock n roll' his destiny is sealed with the arrival of the Sex Pistols and punk rock which to Bobby, represents an iconoclastic vision of class rebellion and would ultimately lead to him becoming an artist initially in the Jesus and Mary Chain then in Primal Scream. Structured in four parts, Tenement Kid builds like a breakbeat crescendo to the final quarter of the book, the Summer of Love, Boys Own parties, and the fateful meeting with Andrew Weatherall in an East Sussex field. As the '80s bleed into the '90s and a new kind of electronic soul music starts to pulse through the nation's consciousness, Primal Scream become the most innovative British band of the new decade, representing a new psychedelic vanguard taking shape at Creation Records. Ending with the release of Screamadelica and the tour that followed in the autumn, Tenement Kid is a book filled with the joy and wonder of a rock n roll apostle who would radically reshape the future sounds of fin de siècle British pop. Published thirty years after the release of their masterpiece, Bobby Gillespie's memoir cuts a righteous path through a decade lost to Thatcherism and saved by acid house.

Out Of The Void written by Brendan Yates and has been published by Empire Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-03 with categories.

Few bands have persevered like Primal Scream. From leather-clad indie icons to electro punk rockers, they have frequently appealed to and surprised their followers in equal measure since their chaotic beginnings in the mid '80's. In an era of manufactured pop, Primal Scream remain relevant and controversial and, unlike many of their peers, have the confidence and ability to switch easily between musical styles whilst retaining a togetherness that's seen them through the highs and lows of an amazing two decade career. They began life in Glasgow playing sweet '60's style pop and vulgar Stones inspired glam. Yet they appalled many of their fans by indulging in the nascent acid house movement of the late 80's. Their resulting third album, 'Screamadelica', is now looked upon as a landmark era-defining record that's been dubbed 'The E generation's Sergeant Pepper'. The success of singles like 'Loaded', 'Movin' On Up' and 'Rocks' ensured their place in the pantheon of street bands that invaded the charts in the early '90's, while the accompanying live performances were a fascinating and cleansing mix of music, drugs and good times. But, as with their previous incarnations, Primal Scream were not prepared to stand still. By the turn of the millennium the band launched into a style imaginatively referred to as 'disco punk' and performed some of the greatest shows of their career, cementing their reputation with both fans and critics as stylish and composed innovators. Throughout, the band's figurehead Bobby Gillespie has maintained a regular presence in the music press. His ability to switch between opinions on subjects as diverse as music, world politics, racism and drugs has provided a welcome contrast from many of today's contrived stars and this lucidity has made him one of music journalism's best friends and most fascinating characters. Out of the Void' is the story of one of the most influential and often misunderstood British bands of the last 20 years. Author Brendan Yates looks back at their many incarnations, including Gillespie's journey through celebrated post-punk brats The Jesus And Mary Chain, his bands' relationship with numerous producers and their importance to the legacy of the now legendary Creation Records label.

Many bands claim to be era-defining. Few are. Primal Scream were. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be at the birth of one of rock n roll's bastard offspring then this book is for you. If you think you know Primal Scream, think again. The Psychedelic Confessions Of A Primal Screamer will introduce you to six Glaswegian garage heads hell bent on acid, hard kicks and psychedelia. And there's more again....
