This book offers a fundamental description of physics using classical probabilities for events occurring at all times and locations throughout the Universe. The laws of quantum mechanics emerge naturally when focusing on a specific moment in time. Each step is explained in detail through simple systems, such as bits, Ising spins, or fermionic occupation numbers, allowing readers to grasp the core concepts of the modern functional integral approach to fundamental physics without requiring prior knowledge. Notably, probabilistic cellular automata are presented as intriguing quantum systems or as representations of fermionic quantum field theories. Embedding quantum mechanics within classical statistics opens up new avenues for computing, particularly through the use of correlation functions. A small neuromorphic computer, for instance, can learn basic quantum operations without the typical requirement for extreme isolation, as is the case with conventional quantum computers. On a philosophical level, the book proposes a fresh perspective on science. The content is aimed at readers with a foundational understanding of physics, suitable for advanced students.

We, the authors of this book, are three ardent devotees of chance, or some what more precisely, of discrete probability. When we were collecting the material, we felt that one special pleasure of the field lay in its evocation of an earlier age: many of our 'probabilistic forefathers' were dexterous solvers of discrete problems. We hope that this pleasure will be transmitted to the readers. The first problem-book of a similar kind as ours is perhaps Mosteller's well-known Fifty Challenging Problems in Probability (1965). Possibly, our book is the second. The book contains 125 problems and snapshots from the world of prob ability. A 'problem' generally leads to a question with a definite answer. A 'snapshot' is either a picture or a bird's-eye view of some probabilistic field. The selection is, of course, highly subjective, and we have not even tried to cover all parts of the subject systematically. Limit theorems appear only seldom, for otherwise the book would have become unduly large. We want to state emphatically that we have not written a textbook in probability, but rather a book for browsing through when occupying an easy-chair. Therefore, ideas and results are often put forth without a machinery of formulas and derivations; the conscientious readers, who want to penetrate the whole clockwork, will soon have to move to their desks and utilize appropriate tools.

This book investigates the relationship between empirical reality and theoretical modelling in Earth sciences, focusing on how empirical experiments and theoretical models interact. It explores the connection between statistics and probability theory, emphasizing the importance of these tools in understanding the physical world. The first chapter addresses the frequency-probability antinomy, while the second chapter discusses the sources of randomness in modelling. Chapters 3 and 4 delve into statistical inference, covering estimation theory and testing theory. Chapter 5 examines the relationship between discrete-finite models and continuous-infinite dimensional models, particularly random fields, making the concepts accessible to geodesists and geophysicists. Chapter 6 explores modern machine learning and deep learning, highlighting their roots in traditional statistical methods and neural networks. The book concludes with a caution against relying solely on empirical evidence and "black box" algorithms, advocating for the integration of physical laws with empirical models to advance understanding of the physical world. The book is primarily intended for graduate students and researchers in the field of earth sciences with a basic background in probability theory and statistics.

The Probabilistic Mind is a follow-up to the influential and highly cited Rational Models of Cognition (OUP, 1998). It brings together developmetns in understanding how, and how far, high-level cognitive processes can be understood in rational terms, and particularly using probabilistic Bayesian methods.

Probability And Schrodinger S Mechanics written by David B Cook and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-12-26 with Science categories.

This book addresses some of the problems of interpreting Schrödinger's mechanics — the most complete and explicit theory falling under the umbrella of “quantum theory”. The outlook is materialist (“realist”) and stresses the development of Schrödinger's mechanics from classical theories and its close connections with (particularly) the Hamilton-Jacobi theory. Emphasis is placed on the concepts and use of the modern objective (measure-theoretic) probability theory. The work is free from any mention of the bearing of Schrödinger's mechanics on God, his alleged mind or, indeed, minds at all. The author has taken the naïve view that this mechanics is about the structure and dynamics of atomic and sub-atomic systems since he has been unable to trace any references to minds, consciousness or measurements in the foundations of the theory.

Probabilistic Knowledge written by Sarah Moss and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Mathematics categories.

Sarah Moss argues that in addition to full beliefs, credences can constitute knowledge. She introduces the notion of probabilistic content and shows how it plays a central role not only in epistemology, but in the philosophy of mind and language. Just you can believe and assert propositions, you can believe and assert probabilistic contents.
