Messianic prophecy is one of the most powerful arguments for the truthfulness of the Christian faith. Messianic prophecy alone should be enough evidence to convince anybody that Jesus is the divine Messiah and that they should become a Christian. The Bible is so specific about the identity of the Messiah that one must have an a priori commitment to deny Jesus in order to not recognize him as God's Messiah. It is a puzzling fact that most Jewish people have not embraced Jesus as their promised Messiah. Why is that? The evidence is there for all to see, but some do not want to see it. Jesus did not match the profile of the conquering king the Jewish people expected, but that doesn't mean that Jesus doesn't match the ancient predicted profile we find in the Hebrew Bible. Rather, we find out that Messiah is both a suffering servant and a conquering king; two missions completed in two advents in one unparalleled person. This brief book examines the major messianic prophecies to uncover if Jesus did in fact fulfill the ancient promise of Messiah. Read it and discover for yourself the plain evidence that Jesus of Nazareth is indeed God's Messiah.

The Davidic Messiah In Luke Acts written by Mark L. Strauss and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-03-01 with Religion categories.

The nature of Lukan christology has been much debated in recent years, with scholars claiming the pre-eminence of such categories as Lord, Prophet, Christ, or Isaianic Servant. In the present work the author examines one major theme within Luke's christology, that of the coming king from the line of David. A study of the Lukan birth narrative and the speeches in Acts reveals that Luke shows a strong interest in this royal-messianic theme, introducing it into passages which are introductory and programmatic for his christology as a sermon, portraying Jesus in strongly prophetic terms. The author seeks a synthesis of these seemingly conflicting royal and prophetic portraits in Luke's interpretation of the Old Testament book of Isaiah. When Isaiah is read as a unity, the eschatological deliverer is at the same time Davidic king (Isa. 9.11), suffering servant of Yahweh (Isa. 42-53), and prophet herald of salvation (Isa. 61), leading God's people on an eschatological new exodus. On the basis of this synthesis the christology of Luke-Acts is seen to be both consistent and unified, forming an integral part of Luke's wider purpose in his two-volume work.

Isaiah's ministry as a prophet—during the period of the divided kingdom—spanned the reigns of four Judean kings. He condemned the empty ritualism of his day and the idolatry into which the people had fallen. He foresaw the coming Babylonian captivity, and some of his prophecies were even fulfilled in his lifetime, but the literal fulfillment of his prophecies concerning Christ's first coming have given Isaiah's words their strongest vindication—and the further assurance in the prophecies of Christ's second coming. In this study, pastor John MacArthur will guide you through an in-depth look at the historical backdrop to the book of Isaiah, continuing through the different prophecies and the teachings about the grace of God. Studies include close-up examinations of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, as well as careful considerations of doctrinal themes such as the "Redemption of Israel" and "The Future Glory of God's People." —ABOUT THE SERIES— The MacArthur Bible Study series is designed to help you study the Word of God with guidance from widely respected pastor and author John MacArthur. Each guide provides intriguing examinations of the whole of Scripture by examining its parts and incorporates: Extensive, but straight-forward commentary on the text. What is the central theme of the Bible?Given the diversity of authorship, genre, and context of the Bible’s various books, is it evenpossible to answer such a question? Or in trying to do so, is an external grid being unnaturallysuperimposed on the biblical text? These are difficult questions that the discipline of biblical theology has struggled to answer. In this thoroughly revised and expanded edition of his classic Toward an Old Testament Theology,Walter Kaiser offers a solution to these unresolved issues. He proposes that there is indeeda unifying center to the theology and message of the Bible that is indicated and affirmed byScripture itself. That center is the promise of God. It is one all-encompassing promise of lifethrough the Messiah that winds itself throughout salvation history in both the Old and NewTestaments, giving cohesiveness and unity to the various parts of Scripture. After laying out his proposal, Kaiser works chronologically through the books of both testaments, demonstrating how the promise is seen throughout, how the various sub-themesof each book relate to the promise, and how God’s plan to fulfill the promise progressivelyunfolds. Here is a rich and illuminating biblical theology that will stir the emotion and theintellect.

The Bible is a collection of writings that together tell a unified story. But exactly how do all the pieces fit together? In a single volume, The Promise and the Blessing connects the dots of the Old and New Testament books to reveal the big picture of salvation history. Organized chronologically rather than canonically, this book traces the flow of Israel’s history and shows how the New Testament proceeds out of the Old. It begins with God’s creation of the cosmos and the initial problem of the fall of man. Then it traces God’s solutions to that problem as he selects first one man, Abraham, then his line, and then the nation of Israel to provide the Messiah. Finally, it focuses on the Messiah himself and looks at how the gospel of Jesus was spread throughout the known world. The Promise and the Blessing is easy to use and ideal for anyone who wants to understand the grand narrative of the Bible. It features numerous beautiful, full-color photos, as well as sidebars and brief, fascinating “breakouts” of supplementary information. Maps, illustrations, summaries, and insightful notes help to illuminate the text. Field-tested in the classroom, The Promise and the Blessing is designed for Old and New Testament survey classes and will provide all readers of the Bible with a better understanding of how the drama that began in Eden winds through Israel’s history to its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

The Promise Of The Father written by Marianne Meye Thompson and has been published by Westminster John Knox Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-01-01 with Religion categories.

Marianne Thompson surveys the portrayal of God as Father in the Old Testament and Second Temple Judaism, in the ministry of Jesus, in the Synoptic Gospels, and in the writings of Paul and John. Thompson argues that, rather than rooting the image of God in a debate about gender, "Father" terminology really identifies an ancestor who grants inheritance.
