The Promised Day Is Come is a major work of Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Bahá'í Faith as appointed by 'Abdu'l-Bahá, his Grandfather. Shoghi Effendi wrote this book when World War II had been raging in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world for about two years. It was a time when the colossal violence, bloodshed and the misery it was causing were well-known and felt by everyone. The title of the book, The Promised Day Is Come, is a statement that Bahá'u'lláh uttered in a number of His Tablets giving the glad tidings of the coming of the Lord of Hosts as promised in previous holy scriptures, and as a warning of the impending convulsion that would afflict humanity. In his book, Shoghi Effendi offers a unique philosophy of twentieth-century human history, providing an explanation of the reasons for the occurrence of the events of that time, and their ultimate purpose beyond the usual political and economic analysis. He refers to those world afflicting ordeals as a "judgement of God" against people of the earth who failed to recognize Bahá'u'lláh. In fact, they not only missed such an opportunity, but abandoned their own religions and replaced them with ideologies based on so-called gods that were in conflict with the spirit of revealed religions, particularly the three chief idols of Nationalism, Racialism and Communism. Shoghi Effendi also highlights in the book the social evolution of humankind towards its ultimate stage of its unification as a world commonwealth. He articulates the characteristics of the Bahá'í world commonwealth that will be established after a great world convulsion and identifies the stages through which the process will unfold. This current book is designed to assist you in the study of The Promised Day Is Come and absorbing its contents. It is called a tutorial as it attempts to simulate, as much as possible, the tutor-tutored relationship in a self-paced personal study. All the references in the tutorial are sourced either from authoritative Bahá'í materials or obtained from other reliable sources.

Pillars Of A Mature Worldview written by Michael Merkel and has been published by tredition this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-20 with Religion categories.

Our worldview determines our perception of reality and thus shapes our attitude to life and the way we live. If our worldview adequately reflects reality, we can lead an authentic and meaningful life that we will later look back on with satisfaction. A mature worldview is much more than the accumulation of facts and experiences. Whereas in the past there was primarily a lack of scientific insight, today it is above all the immense flood of information and opinions that obscures our view of essential knowledge. It is therefore not surprising that people's views sometimes differ considerably with regard to fundamental questions of life. The thesis of this book is that in this age it is possible for the first time to obtain objectively convincing answers to the great philosophical questions of life. However, for this we have to draw on two equal sources of knowledge, which in the last centuries were rather regarded as adversaries: science and religion. In their respective updated forms, they are the key to separating truth from error and to assembling various worldview fragments into a coherent overall picture. If science and faith pull together in a mature way, great insights and undreamt-of connections open up. This book provides an easy-to-read, albeit quite comprehensive, introduction to the profound principle of the unity of science and religion. After examining what distinguishes modern science and true faith, it explains how both areas of knowledge are interrelated by their very nature and work constructively together. Building on this methodological foundation, essential philosophical concepts are explained in the light of current scientific and religious knowledge, which should not be missing as necessary pillars in any mature worldview.

Globalisation has become a buzzword that typically refers to the intensifying integration of the world economy, especially as midwifed by technological advances. It also implies a growing political and cultural sense that all humanity is globally interdependent. There have always been individuals of course who have advocated such awareness, one of them being the founder of the Baha'i faith, who formulated a spiritual equivalent as the religion's central doctrine in the late 19th century: Ye are the fruits of one tree, and the leaves of one branch. Its emphasis on global unification made Baha'i an obvious candidate for a case study on new religions and globalisation. The chapters in this volume fall into two sections, diachronic and synchronic. The first part is organised chronologically, beginning with the emergence of the globalist tendency in the messianic vision of Babism, the precursor to Baha'i, and concluding with an analytic history of its leaders' changing attitudes to international politics. The second part considers a variety of global themes in contemporary Baha'i practice, including global thought in Baha'i writings, the impact of the internet, and the triumphalist and secular strains in Baha'i identity. Though five million members make it one of the world's most successful new religions, Baha'i has attracted little scholarly attention. Most of the academics concentrating on Baha'i have contributed to this volume, which will appeal not only to students of modern religious movements, but to anyone interested in the ways religions can adapt to - and embrace - the modern world.

The world the apostle Paul inhabited was dramatically different from our time. He knew nothing of capitalism, or physics, or Zoom, and more significantly, Paul was a regular in Caesar's prison. For us, "Caesar" is a salad. But a constant in the human story is that every life faces suffering. Paul's life was no different. And yet, on Paul's worst days, he still exhibited a spirit of joy. In this spirit of joy, Paul offers us some inspiration. Joy is not a common reality in modern life. We are more acquainted with anxiety and fear, and on good days we can settle for happiness; but joy is less common. The worst days come to all of us. At some point the dreams die, the body fails, the spirit is crushed. Those days leave their mark on us. But an imprisoned apostle passed down 104 verses to an ancient congregation in Philippi, and they have passed it down to us. It is their testimony that when the worst days come--and they will--they do not have to be the end of joy. Indeed, they might be the beginning.
