Like many, I have given the origin and meaning of life a great deal of thought in an effort to live it fully-with grace and intelligence. In the process, I discovered that theological/philosophical discussions on reality are empty without the consideration of scientific inquiry as they inform each other on the nature of human existence. We can benefit immensely from the great minds chronicled in this book that have dramatically changed the world and helped man imagine himself in it-leading to one's own self-discovery. DISCOVER: In Theology Is the soul immortal? Is reincarnation possible? Islam's holiest shrine in Mecca was built by the founding father of the Jewish nation. How one man uprooted 1500 years of Roman Catholic domination with a simple document. In Philosophy Is the world pre-determined with orderly harmony or governed by man's free will? Is knowledge gained solely from experience and reasoning-or is it innate? How the self-awareness of existentialism allows one to live an authentic life. How 9th century Muslim scholars contributed to the foundation of modern civilization. In Science What makes all physical matter stable? How does matter reproduce itself? Isaac Newton described gravity's effect, but it was Einstein who showed how it originated. Did man evolve or was he created? The search for a unifying theoretical basis of all the sciences.

The Pursuit Of Wisdom And Happiness In Education written by Sean Steel and has been published by SUNY Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-21 with Education categories.

Explores the nature and role of wisdom in education. Modern scholarship has struggled to come to terms with the meaning of wisdom and its significance in the field of education. This book examines the importance of pursuing wisdom in schools by turning to ancient and medieval sources for clarification concerning the nature of wisdom. Sean Steel argues that our current emphasis on the development of rigorous critical-analytic thinking skills, on assessment, and on accountability in education has negatively impacted the ability of schools to foster an environment in which both students and teachers might pursue wisdom. Although in recent times efforts have been made to incorporate the pursuit of wisdom into schools through Philosophy for Children (P4C) and contemplative education programming, such initiatives have missed their mark. Steel therefore recommends not more accountability in education for the purpose of ensuring global competitiveness, but rather the institutional promotion of periods of leisure or schole in the school day. Drawing upon his own experiences as a teacher who has tried to encourage students to search for wisdom, the author discusses some of the challenges and pitfalls of wisdom seeking. He also offers examples of various wisdom-seeking activities that might bear fruit in the classroom.

Education And The Pursuit Of Wisdom written by Jānis (John) Tālivaldis Ozoliņš and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-08 with Education categories.

Education and the Pursuit of Wisdom examines the ways in which the timeless human search for wisdom relates to current educational practices. This book challenges the current approach of an economically-driven system preparing students solely for the workplace, and instead discusses the importance of teaching wisdom in order to enrich all aspects of the lives of students. Ozoliņš discusses how teaching young people how to make decisions will not only benefit them in everyday life, but will benefit society as a whole. Drawing on religious and classical texts such as Benedictine and Confucian works, Ozoliņš’ book assesses and re-evaluates the central aim of education, and moves toward developing a robust understanding of the value of wisdom and its implications. Alternative approaches to education and the ways in which educators can establish agency in this process are also carefully considered. Detailed, well-researched, and with an international scope, Education and the Pursuit of Wisdom is an ideal reference work for researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students of education, and in particular the philosophy of education and the concept of wisdom.

THE AUTHOR ON THE PURSUIT OF WISDOM: Like many, I have given the origin and meaning of life a great deal of thought in an effort to live it fully --- with grace and intelligence. In the process, I discovered that philosophical/theological discussions on reality are empty without the consideration of scientific inquiry as they inform each other on the nature of human existence. In The Pursuit of Wisdom, historic breakthroughs by eminent scientists abide side-by-side with theologians and philosophers who share an ambition to answer life¿s most primordial questions. As the great Albert Einstein once said, ¿The situation can be expressed by an image: Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.¿ We can benefit immensely from the great minds chronicled in this book that have dramatically changed the world and helped man imagine himself in it -- leading to one's own self-discovery. DISCOVER: In Theology: * Is the soul immortal? Nicholas Maxwell's provocative and highly-original philosophy of science urges a revolution in academic inquiry affecting all branches of learning, so that the single-minded pursuit of knowledge is replaced with the aim of helping people realize what is of value in life and make progress toward a more civilized world. This volume of essays from an international, interdisciplinary group of scholars engages Maxwell in critical evaluation and celebrates his contribution to philosophy spanning forty years. Several of the contributors, like Maxwell, took their inspiration from Sir Karl Popper's philosophy of science and were connected to the department he created at the London School of Economics. In the introductory chapter, Maxwell provides an overview of his thought and then defends his views against objections in a concluding essay.
