A photographic journey of the Queensferry Crossing bridge being built. On August 3rd 2012 my Dad and I decided that we would take our first photographs of the 'new bridge' on the Firth of Forth, which was in its first stages of construction. At the time, everyone referred to it as the 'new bridge' because it was yet to receive it's name of 'Queensferry Crossing'.The Queensferry Crossing is a cable-stayed bridge measuring 2700 metres in length. The idea to begin this series of photographs was my Dad's and I can't take too much credit for it because he has been a bit more dedicated to it over the past 5 years than I have. This is the longest photo project either of us have ever challenged ourselves to do and it's been a wonderful journey to work on something like this with my Dad.We have spent many days throughout all the seasons to show the progression of the construction in a way that flows from the first image to the last. The photographs in this series show our evolution through different cameras from: Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm and Leica - but, more personally for us, they show our progression as photographers and our journey as a father and daughter photographic duo. It's always incredible to look through a series like this and we can't quite believe how quickly the time has past. We hope you enjoy this series, which depicts a historical landmark of engineering marvel and shows the construction of the third bridge of the Firth of Forth, Scotland - connecting the Lothians to Fife.- Lauren & Andrew

High Performance And Optimum Design Of Structures And Materials V written by S. Hernandez and has been published by WIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-13 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The use of novel materials and new structural concepts nowadays is not restricted to highly technical areas like aerospace, aeronautical applications or the automotive industry, but affects all engineering fields including those such as civil engineering and architecture. The included contributions highlight the latest developments in design and manufacturing. Most high-performance structures require the development of a generation of new materials, which can more easily resist a range of external stimuli or react in a non-conventional manner. Particular emphasis is placed on intelligent structures and materials as well as the application of computational methods for their modelling, control and management. The book also addresses the topic of design optimisation. Contributions cover numerical methods, different optimisation techniques and new software. Optimisation problems include those related to the size, shape and topology of structures and materials. Optimisation techniques have much to offer to those involved in the design of new industrial products, as the appearance of powerful commercial computer codes has created a fertile field for the incorporation of optimisation in the design process of all engineering disciplines. The performance of structures under shock and impact loads is another area covered. The increasing need to protect civilian infrastructure and industrial facilities against unintentional loads arising from accidental impact and explosion events as well as terrorist attacks is reflected in the sustained interest worldwide. While advances have been made in recent decades, many challenges remain, such as developing more effective and efficient blast and impact mitigation approaches or assessing the uncertainties associated with large and small scale testing and validation of numerical and analytical models. The overall aim is to move towards a better understanding of the critical issues relating to the testing behaviour, modelling and analyses of protective structures against blast and impact loading. The studies contained in this volume were presented at the International Conference on High Performance and Optimum Structures and Materials Encompassing Shock and Impact Loading and address issues involving advanced types of structures, particularly those based on new concepts, and shock and impact resistance.

A Walk By The Sea written by John Brant Chatterton and has been published by Troubador Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-19 with Travel categories.

“The British coast is where journeys begin and where journeys end, where sun rises and where sun sets.” In John Chatterton’s A Walk by the Sea, John tells the story of his journey from Land’s End to circumnavigate an island with a longer coastline than France or India with an infinite variety of landscapes, seascapes and cultures. After having always wanted to walk the coastline of Great Britain and returning to normality after the foot and mouth epidemic was declared over in 2001, John started his epic journey around Great Britain. He quickly realised that this was not just a walk, and this book is certainly not a walker’s handy guidebook to the periphery of Blake’s ‘green and pleasant land,’ but something much deeper and meaningful. For John, walking gets the most out of travel, but this was a ‘journey’ not a walk. The journey is a reflection of Britain in the first millennium of the 21st century - its events its places and its people. Walking, unlike other forms of travel, allows time for expansion of thoughts and ideas, and reflections on life and times. This journey uses Britain as a backdrop to explore philosophical, social, political, geographical and cultural issues that spring to mind on the way. Although these thoughts and ideas are physically separate from the journey, John explains how they are also a deeply intrinsic part of it too. “A Walk by the Sea is much more than a usual guidebook but, instead, is a psycho-geographical journey around the Great British coastline in thefirst decade of the new millennium,” comments John.
