AUTHOR'S MESSAGE TO READERS. No matter what our perception is in relation to the subject of war and peace in our modern times, we have an inherent obligation to inculcate a spirit of lucidity and responsibility to reject erratic and ferment principles of politics that may jeopardize our determination to make our world a peaceful place. What is required is that we open up to the truth of the past and inculcate the good principles of politics into our contemporary culture of peace. The rethinking of ancient philosophy of peace is to reanimate us once again with the wisdom of the past in our search today for order and tranquility (tranquillitas ordinis). The philosophy of peace of the ancient times is not a monolith, for sure we can detect minor deficiencies and utopian elements in it, nevertheless its profundity and uniqueness offers those who study it something exceptional, distinctive, and pure, that has stood the test of time and all forms of cultural alterations over the centuries. Ancient philosophy has introduced us to the basic truth thus; peace is inner repose and outer harmony, and the person is at peace when he is not anguished inwardly by conflicting desires whilst living in harmony with others. Ancient philosophy affirms that men are intelligent and willing beings and are naturally called to build peace in their lives and in the society, this is true because any man who has examined history and human nature will agree with me that there is no such thing as a human heart that does not crave for peace and happiness. With a good modus operandi and determination we can build sound politics and social organization of peace, because peace is the only thing that can hold the human family together.

The ancient philosophers of Greece and Rome knew that life is a great search for the highest expression of Self. They knew that nothing in all the fright and chaos of this world is more important than peace of mind. They knew that the cultivation of virtues and the denial of vices is indispensable to peace. Expressing Stoic and Epicurean traditions, Socrates, Plato, Epictetus, Plutarch, Epicurus, Seneca, Cicero, Marcus Aurelius and others, asked-What kind of person would you be as you walk the earth for a short while? What virtues would you welcome, what vices would you lay aside, what light would you be to others and yourself? What would you teach? What is beauty in this world, for loving beauty is a sign of inner peace? What are the marks of wisdom in true character? Every generation repeats the journey of the ancient folk and masters, but so often, perhaps even now, without their counsel. Sincere, intimate, touching, humorous, stirring, and beautifully crafted are the utterances. A single one can transform your life. This book would have appealed to my dear mother who liked a single thought, with no more than three sentences, on a single page. I have always loved eloquence with brevity, and here it is in spades. There is a reassurance in these pages, a kind of safety, that always accompanies peace of mind.

Humanity has been on an unending quest to find inner peace and happiness since the dawn of time. Two components necessary for a quality life yet oh so difficult to find. It was not until the rise of Ancient Greece that we came close with the ideology of Stoicism. The Ancient Art of Stoicism: An Insight into the Stoic Philosophy, Ethics, Wisdom, and Meditation explores this timeless philosophy while adding new insights you may not have thought of. Many of us already endure pain and hardships without articulating emotions. That stoic nature is difficult to attain, and even harder to control. The Ancient Art of Stoicism traverses back to Ancient Greece where debate saw to the rise of the greatest philosophers in history. Famous for much of the modern world's greatest inventions and history altering dynamics, Greece is truly the foundation upon which society has been built. The Ancient Art of Stoicism began when men learned how to focus on those aspects of life that are controllable, while tuning out those that are out of reach. A worthy edition to add to any collection, the Ancient Art of Stoicism sheds light on a subject many think they know but few understand.

Warfare has long been central to a proper understanding of ancient Greece and Rome, worlds where war was, as the philosopher Heraclitus observed, 'both king and father of all'. More recently, however, the understanding of Classical antiquity solely in such terms has been challenged; it is recognised that while war was pervasive, and a key concern in the narratives of ancient historians, a concomitant desire for peace was also constant. This volume places peace in the prime position as a panel of scholars stresses the importance of 'peace' as a positive concept in the ancient world (and not just the absence of, or necessarily even related to, war), and considers examples of conflict resolution, conciliation, and concession from Homer to Augustine. Comparing and contrasting theories and practice across different periods and regions, this collection highlights, first, the open and dynamic nature of peace, and then seeks to review a wide variety of initiatives from across the Classical world.
