The ancient Celts lived by and worshipped the moon. While modern, digital life is often at odds with nature – rubbing against it rather than working in harmony with it – is there something to be said for embracing this ancient way of being and reconnecting to the moon's natural calendar?* January's Quiet Moon reflects an air of melancholy, illuminating a midwinter of quiet menace; it was the time of the Dark Days for the ancient Celts, when the natural world balanced on a knife edge. By May, the Bright Moon brings happiness as time slows, mayflies cloud and elderflowers cascade. Nature approaches her peak during a summer of short nights and bright days – this was when the ancient Celts claimed their wives and celebrated Lugnasad. With the descent into winter comes the sadness of December's Cold Moon. Trees stand bare and creatures shiver their way to shelter as the Dark Days creep in once more and the cycle restarts. In The Quiet Moon, Kevin Parr discovers that a year of moons has much to teach us about how to live in the world that surrounds us – and how being more in tune to the rhythms of nature, even in the cold and dark, can help ease the suffering mind.

I am inspired by many things in life. These inspirations usually end up in some form of writing. Although I started writing when I was quite young, I did not write to the extent I do today. My work comes from the people around me and from the scenes in nature; from figments of my imagination and from my dreams. I have been lucky enough to have traveled to a great many places in this world and have met many highly inspirational people who have given me a great deal about which to write. Since August of 2000, I have been living in Little Falls, Minnesota, where I work as a federal employee. Little Falls is a small community that is quiet and historical. I plan on retiring soon, and then I will pursue my writing to a greater extent. I enjoy all types of hunting, I am an enthusiastic professional football and UND college hockey fan, and I also like to do woodworking and furniture restorations. I am a husband and a father, and now, most recently, a grandfathertwice over. I hope you enjoy my works of merriment and forgiveness, happiness and sorrow.

"Drawing on examples ranging from Chaucer to children's rhymes, Cole Porter to Carol Ann Duffy, and from around the English-speaking world, it looks at aspects including : how technical aspects such as rhythm and measures work; how different tones of voice affect a poem; how poetic language relates to everyday language; how different types of poetry work, from sonnets to free verse; and how the form and 'space' of a poem contribute to its meaning." "Poetry: The Basics is an invaluable and easy-to-read guide for anyone wanting to get to grips with reading and writing poetry."--Jacket.

Mooncop written by Tom Gauld and has been published by Drawn & Quarterly this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-03 with Comics & Graphic Novels categories.

The Guardian cartoonist relates the daily deadpan adventures of the last policeman living on the moon "Living on the moon...Whatever were we thinking? ...It seems so silly now.” The lunar colony is slowly winding down, like a small town circumvented by a new super highway. As our hero, the Mooncop, makes his daily rounds, his beat grows ever smaller, the population dwindles. A young girl runs away, a dog breaks off his leash, an automaton wanders off from the Museum of the Moon. Each day that the Mooncop goes to work, life gets a little quieter and a little lonelier. As in Goliath, Tom Gauld’s retelling of the Bible story, the focus in Gauld's science fiction is personal—no big explosions or grand reveals, just the incremental dissolution of an abandoned project and a person’s slow awakening to his own uselessness. Depicted in the distinctive, matter-of-fact style of his beloved Guardian strips, Mooncop is equal parts funny and melancholy. Gauld captures essential truths about humanity, making this a story of the past, present, and future, all in one.

Zhou Mengdie S Poetry Of Consciousness written by Lloyd Haft and has been published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with categories.

The Taiwan writer Zhou Mengdie (1921) is one of the greatest living Chinese-language poets. His poems are full of Buddhist allusions which have earned him the nickname poet-monk, but as Lloyd Haft shows in this in-depth study, Zhou's remarkably cosmopolitan poems can be read equally well in the light of Freudian dream analysis, Husserl's phenomenology, and the theory of the palindrome and related literary forms. Zhou's true focus is not limited to 'Oriental' philosophy or 'Taiwanese' settings. It is on the very nature of consciousness. In Zhou's poetry, traditional Chinese terms and images, rather than imposing cultural boundaries, are re-framed in a sophisticated modern context which brings out their significance for worldwide readers. All poems discussed (including many in full or extensive translation) are presented both in English and in the Chinese original. This book will reveal new perspectives to readers interested in modern Taiwan literature, comparative literature, Chinese poetry and poetry in general, and the interfaces of poetry with philosophy, psychology, and the search for identity.
