Zulu, The Rap Factor's protagonist and Miami's hottest P.I., is badder than Shaft and gets more women into bed than James Bond. When a beautiful young rapper poised for the top of the charts is found dead in her apartment, not a mark on her perfect ebony body, Zulu is off and jamming. What ensues is fully worthy of the writer who has been praised by Vanity Fair for his "cool, stylish puzzlers" and by the Los Angeles Times as one capable of "four-star pop entertainment." "This novel has gas, written in the mile-a-minute, rat-a-tat style of rap. [Delacorta] mixes John D. McDonald, Dashiell Hammett and Mickey Spillane, along with a healthy dose of wit and pure fun, and comes up with one of the best reads of the summer." -- The Washington Post Book World

In perceiving all rap and hip-hop music as violent, misogynistic, and sexually charged, are we denying the way in which it is attentive to the lived experiences, both positive and negative, of many therapy clients? This question is explored in great depth in this anthology, the first to examine the use of this musical genre in the therapeutic context. The contributors are all experienced therapists who examine the multiple ways that rap and hip-hop can be used in therapy by listening and discussing, performing, creating, or improvising. The text is divided into three sections that explore the historical and theoretical perspectives of rap and hip-hop in therapy, describe the first-hand experiences of using the music with at-risk youth, and discuss the ways in which contributors have used rap and hip-hop with clients with specific diagnoses, respectively. Within these sections, the contributors provide rationale for the use of rap and hip-hop in therapy and encourage therapists to validate the experiences for those for whom rap music is a significant mode of expression. Editors Susan Hadley and George Yancy go beyond promoting culturally competent therapy to creating a paradigm shift in the field, one that speaks to the problematic ways in which rap and hip-hop have been dismissed as expressive of meaningless violence and of little social value. More than providing tools to incorporate rap into therapy, this text enhances the therapist's cultural and professional repertoire.

Representations Of Black Women In The Media written by Marquita Marie Gammage and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-16 with Social Science categories.

In 1920 W.E.B. Du Bois cited the damnation of women as linked to the devaluation of motherhood. This dilemma, he argues, had a crushing blow on Black women as they were forced into slavery. Black womanhood, portrayed as hypersexual by nature, became an enduring stereotype which did not coincide with the dignity of mother and wife. This portrayal continues to reinforce negative stereotypes of Black women in the media today. This book highlights how Black women have been negatively portrayed in the media, focusing on the export nature of media and its ability to convey notions of Blackness to the public. It argues that media such as rap music videos, television dramas, reality television shows, and newscasts create and affect expectations of Black women. Exploring the role that racism, misogyny and media play in the representation of Black womanhood, it provides a foundation for challenging contemporary media’s portrayal of Black women.

Factor Analysis And Dimension Reduction In R written by G. David Garson and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-16 with Psychology categories.

Factor Analysis and Dimension Reduction in R provides coverage, with worked examples, of a large number of dimension reduction procedures along with model performance metrics to compare them. Factor analysis in the form of principal components analysis (PCA) or principal factor analysis (PFA) is familiar to most social scientists. However, what is less familiar is understanding that factor analysis is a subset of the more general statistical family of dimension reduction methods. The social scientist's toolkit for factor analysis problems can be expanded to include the range of solutions this book presents. In addition to covering FA and PCA with orthogonal and oblique rotation, this book’s coverage includes higher-order factor models, bifactor models, models based on binary and ordinal data, models based on mixed data, generalized low-rank models, cluster analysis with GLRM, models involving supplemental variables or observations, Bayesian factor analysis, regularized factor analysis, testing for unidimensionality, and prediction with factor scores. The second half of the book deals with other procedures for dimension reduction. These include coverage of kernel PCA, factor analysis with multidimensional scaling, locally linear embedding models, Laplacian eigenmaps, diffusion maps, force directed methods, t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding, independent component analysis (ICA), dimensionality reduction via regression (DRR), non-negative matrix factorization (NNMF), Isomap, Autoencoder, uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP) models, neural network models, and longitudinal factor analysis models. In addition, a special chapter covers metrics for comparing model performance. Features of this book include: Numerous worked examples with replicable R code Explicit comprehensive coverage of data assumptions Adaptation of factor methods to binary, ordinal, and categorical data Residual and outlier analysis Visualization of factor results Final chapters that treat integration of factor analysis with neural network and time series methods Presented in color with R code and introduction to R and RStudio, this book will be suitable for graduate-level and optional module courses for social scientists, and on quantitative methods and multivariate statistics courses.

“A lovely tribute to the courage and creativity of Iran’s musicians . . . filled with hope and sadness—and the universal human desire for freedom.” —Joe Klein, Time Music was one of the first casualties of the Iranian Revolution. It was banned in 1979, but it quickly crept back into Iranian culture and politics. Now, more than forty years on, both the children of the revolution and their music have come of age. Soundtrack of the Revolution offers a striking account of Iranian culture, politics, and social change to provide an alternative history of the Islamic Republic. Drawing on over five years of research in Iran, including during the 2009 protests, Nahid Siamdoust introduces a full cast of characters, from musicians and audience members to state officials, and takes readers into concert halls and underground performances, as well as the state licensing and censorship offices. She closely follows the work of four musicians—a giant of Persian classical music, a government-supported pop star, a rebel rock-and-roller, and an underground rapper—each with markedly different political views and relations with the Iranian government. Taken together, these examinations of musicians and their music shed light on issues at the heart of debates in Iran—about its future and identity, changing notions of religious belief, and the quest for political freedom. Music will continue to offer an opening for debate and defiance. As the 2009 Green Uprising and the 1979 Revolution before it have proven, the invocation of a potent melody or musical verse can unite strangers into a powerful public. “Paints a vivid portrait of the struggles over popular music in the Islamic Republic.” —Mark LeVine, author of Heavy Metal Islam

In road projects, the pavement construction is very expensive and, therefore, the design and subsequent construction must make a proper balance between the cost and the sustainability. During the operation and maintenance period, the costs for routine maintenance (as and when pavement damage occurs) are to be kept as low as possible as there is less control towards cost of the periodic maintenance (mandatory at a contractual interval, normally 5 years). The reduction in cost for routine maintenance will relieve the project authorities from unexpected expenditures. This comprehensive text on Pavement Engineering is up-to-date with industry standards and best practices and offers an exhaustive coverage on design, construction and maintenance of pavements. The book has followed AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures, 1993, besides meeting latest code provisions and pavement design methods recommended by Indian Roads Congress (IRC) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This book has all standard topics on the subject, but differs from all other books in respect of following contents: • Pavement Engineering and Highway Geometrics • Design of Flexible Bituminous/Asphalt Pavement • Design of Rigid Concrete Pavement • Construction of Flexible Bituminous/Asphalt Pavement • Construction of Rigid Concrete Pavement • Maintenance of Flexible Bituminous/Asphalt Pavement • Maintenance of Rigid Concrete Pavement • Maintenance of other Road, Drainage and Bridge features This book refers to the web uploaded volume ‘User’s Guide for Computer Applications’ at web site www.roadbridgedesign.com to help readers learn various computer applications in pavement engineering. This book is designed to serve as a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering and Traffic and Transportation Engineering. TARGET AUDIENCE • BE/B.Tech, ME/MS/M.Tech (Civil Engineering and Transportation/ Highway Engineering) • Professionals of Highway/Road Construction Industry
