In Harm S Way written by Catharine A. MacKinnon and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Law categories.

This book contains the oral testimony of victims of pornography, spoken on the record for the first time in history. Speaking at hearings on a groundbreaking antipornography civil rights law, women offer eloquent witness to the devastation pornography has caused in their lives. Supported by social science experts and authorities on rape, battery, and prostitution, discounted and opposed by free speech advocates and absolutists, their riveting testimony articulates the centrality of pornography to sexual abuse and inequity today. At issue in these hearings is a law conceived and drafted by Andrea Dworkin and Catharine A. MacKinnon that defines harm done through pornography as a legal injury of sex discrimination warranting civil redress. From the first set of hearings in Minneapolis in 1983 through those before the Massachusetts state legislature in 1992, the witnesses heard here expose the commonplace reality of denigration and sexual subordination due to pornography and refute the widespread notion that pornography is harmless expression that must be protected by the state. Introduced with powerful essays by MacKinnon and Dworkin, these hearings--unabridged and with each word scrupulously verified--constitute a unique record of a conflict over the meaning of democracy itself--a major civil rights struggle for our time and a fundamental crisis in United States constitutional law: Can we sacrifice the lives of women and children to a pornographer's right to free "speech"? Can we allow the First Amendment to shield sexual exploitation and predatory sexual violence? These pages contain all the arguments for protecting pornography--and dramatically document its human cost.

When I started to write the novel NOTTINGHAM HARBOR it was to just be a fictional crime novel set in northern New England. After working on the story and reading about the DNA analysis stories I realized the novel had a very significant purpose. It was and is the story of how to catch serial rapist after law enforcement has the results from the DNA analysis. The story is about a task force attempting to identify a number of rapist. DNA does not identify the criminal. The FBI maintains a database called CODIS. This is a database of DNA of persons convicted of crimes. Unless a person has been convicted of a crime their DNA is NOT in CODIS. The Author, Jack Lorenz, of NOTTINGHAM HARBOR fully agrees with this legal restriction. When the DNA from the rape kits is determined very few of the results match the DNA in CODIS. Rape is a unique type of crime. Most criminals do NOT rape in addition to other crimes. So very few rapist are in the CODIS database. So in a number of jurisdictions where several hundred to a thousand rape kits have been analyzed only two or three rapist are identified. The secondary problem is that the serial rapists move from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and only rape once in each jurisdiction. It is very difficult to identify the rapist with the information from only one case. Use of the physical characteristics of the criminal and the DNA must be used to tie cases together. This is what the team of Mattie Greene, the mathematics teacher, and Sergeant Bill Simpson do in NOTTINGHAM HARBOR. They find a common denominator between the cases with regard to the identity of the rapist. Since rapists like other people must reside, work, eat and drink at physical places, these types of information can be used to identify the specific person. The techniques in the fictional story are the methods required in the real world to catch these dangerous criminals. DNA will not catch but a few rapists. There may be as many as 2000 rapists running around North America. They rape randomly on the streets of this country and Canada. The police and district attorneys in United States must work across jurisdictional lines as in NOTTINGHAM HARBOR. Beside a good story the novel has a higher purpose. It explains how to identify and catch these violent criminals. The other fact about these criminals is some of them are murders in addition to being rapists. If you are victim of a rape, then you need to urge the local police to work with other jurisdictions and using technique similar those in NOTTINGHAM HARBOR identify and catch the rapist. This is the purpose of the novel in addition to being a good story. Enjoy the novel.

DIVDIVCrime expert Linda Fairstein reveals the sinister ways that rapists select and attack their victims, and what you need to know to protect yourself /divDIV /divDIVFrom the man who haunted midtown Manhattan’s high-rise office buildings, to the stalker in the wooded suburbs near Nashville, serial rapists often have one chilling trait in common: They operate in “comfort zones.” Sometimes they find their own comfort zones, such as the stairwell of a familiar office building. Other times they may pinpoint their victims’ comfort zones, such as the bedroom of an unlocked house. In both cases, experienced sexual predators exploit their potential victims’ most unguarded moments. In How Serial Rapists Target Their Victims, Linda Fairstein breaks down the patterns of these violent criminals and describes the day-to-day ways that women can best safeguard against them./divDIV /divDIVOriginally published in Cosmopolitan, this essay is now available in digital format for the first time and features a new introduction by the author./div/div

Essentially A Mother written by Jennifer Hendricks and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-02 with Law categories.

Essentially a Mother argues that the law of pregnancy and motherhood has been overrun by sexist ideology. Courts have held that a pregnant woman’s nine months of gestation hardly count in her claim to parent the child she bears and that a man’s brief moment of ejaculation matters more than a woman’s labor. Armed with such dubious arguments, courts have stripped women of the right to abortion, treated surrogate mothers as mere vessels, and handed biological fathers—even those who became fathers through rape—automatic rights over women and their children. In this incisive and groundbreaking book, Jennifer Hendricks argues that feminists must overthrow the skewed value system that subordinates women, devalues caregiving, and denies too many the right to parent.
